Tinsley May File Grievance

Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:39 am

Story @ RealGM

The NBA Players Association will reportedly file a grievance against the Pacers on behalf of banished point guard Jamaal Tinsley.

Indiana exiled Tinsley in October, telling him to stay away until they traded him. Tinsley initially agreed, but with the trade deadline nearing and no deal on the horizon, he isn't happy.

"We're not bringing him back," Pacers president Larry Bird said. "Our owner made that clear. We're doing everything we can to move him and I really hope we can, not just for us but for Jamaal too. He's a basketball player -- a pretty good basketball player -- and he needs to be playing."

Tinsley has two years and $14.7 million left on his contract.

The Pacers are arguably handling this even worse than Stephon Marbury's situation in New York; at least they're trying to come to an agreement on a buyout. If they're actually sincere about trading him then I think Larry Bird has hit the nail on the head, he needs to be playing. Otherwise, he's a tough sell to other teams. Why should they take on his contract when his own team has exiled him and despite their struggles, has no interest in playing him?

I see Olympiakos coming in playing a part to get him out.

Lookout, next week will be a busy week. Expect the unexpected and trades will be seen everywhere.

What did Tinsley do to deserve such disrespect this time? This almost seems like a new trend in NBA to get rid of unwanted players. Ford and Jack are playing good. I guess that also played a part as well.

It's because that Bird is trying to get rid all the players that was there on the roster who was part of the brawl in Detroit at the time. It was also believed that Tinsley wanted more money that was part of the problem where if wasn't getting it. He was going to sit out, and the franchise is treating him twice as bad like Marbury.

It's certainly part of it, he's been made expendable and he's obviously fallen out of favour with the front office and no longer wanted. However, as I said before the trend of sitting players while trying to trade them surely has to make them a tougher sell; if you don't want them to the point where you'll exile them from the team, why should anyone else be interested in trading for them, especially when Tinsley's contract isn't very appealing? If anything he should at least be playing here and there to at least preserve some trade value. I think this one will be a very bitter split.
