so I like the raptors because of calderon, bargnani, kapono and bosh.
but I really get annoyed by the commentators.
one of them always talks like he is a 10 year old hiphop enthausiast.
abbreviating everyones name for no reason.
calling kapono j-killa. is that his real nickname?
calling ukic rocking roco. which to me sounds pretty damn gay.
he calls a jumpshot a jimmy. why would someone do that?
they both talk about clean looks. I thought it was an open look.
he yells taking it on the numbers like 20 times a game.
another one of his catchphrases is soft touch around the rim.
and sweet stroke. that also sounds pretty gay to me.
and lately he's calling bosh and bargnani the killer bees
for some reason that I haven't been able to figure out.
he used to say about ukic, this kid is gonna be a playa.
dude, ukic is in the nba playing basketball. he is already a player.
it makes me think about the commentator,
if you try really hard, maybe you are gonna be a commentata one day.
oh and the other commentator of the raptors thinks he is bill mcneal from newsradio.
and while I am at it about commentators.
there's a guy for the lakers who is always telling us what players
are saying. well what they might say in his mind at least.
am I the only one who is annoyed by that?
I'll add more when I think of some.
feel free to get some annoying stuff about the nba off your chest.

sound like the Australian cricket & rugby union commentators....they kill me that they're so biased....I wish they'd throw in a South African commentator or opposing team's commentators like they use to....at least there might be some more objectivity....

Bill, Richie and Mark (Nicholas) aren't that biased, but yeah, the rest of them are.

Nicholas rides Ponting's cock big time....Bill & Ritchie aren't too bad though....union commentators are a lot worse though....

I prefer the national broadcasts (which is mostly what we get on Foxtel anyway) for that very reason. They're not without their bias but they tend to do a better job of being impartial. I find Sean Elliott pretty annoying in that regard, most Spurs games shown here tend to be ESPN broadcasts though, especially since Fox Sports aren't showing NBA games this year.
I'm frequently annoyed by the inconsistency in continuation calls. No game is ever going to be called perfectly and it's easy for us to say what's going on with the benefit of a bird's eye view and instant replay but if a player takes a couple of dribbles and finished with a layup after the whistle is blown, there's no way they should call a continuation on that...but if you are going to make that call, make it for everyone. Otherwise you might as well let a player dribble the whole length of the floor after a foul in the backcourt for the and-one.

I dont like how many trades are finalized within these days. How many good players get swapped around. Now I read the Marion for O'Neal deal and I ask myself .. hell, O'Neal has been on the Raptors for maybe 25 games and he gets traded again. Trade talks here, trade talks there, no one is really satisfied with his roster. There are only few teams who went into this season knowing that they will not make any moves. Look at teams like the Bulls for example who have simply silly rosters put together. Not doubting the quality but the quantity on each position.
In a way it annoys me that there are so many trades and trade talks this year and Im glad when the trading deadline is finally passed.

I couldn't agree more. although I won't mind the o'neal transfer, as I'm a rap fan.
I would rather have them not be able to trade during the season. before and after would be better.
I think I need a sig so I can stop typing I like the raptors.

I think you're talking about Toronto's old play-by-play guy, Chuck Swirsky. He moved to Chicago during the offseason (due to family reasons) so he can do the radio play-by-play for the Bulls. The Raptors new play-by-play guy is Matt Devlin and he's a heck lot less of a homer than Chuck was. If I remember correctly, he did the Sonics' play-by-play some time ago. Devlin's a bit bland, but I don't mind it. I think you'll find him a lot more bearable.
If anything, I can't stand Tommy Heinsohn, the colour guy for the Celtics. I haven't heard him much, but anyone who's heard him can tell you how much of a homer he is. He's absolutely brutal.

I kind of see where you're coming from but I can't say I share the same sentiments. Teams should always be looking to improve themselves and to that end they should consider all possibilities. Player movement is a part of the sport, a part of pretty much every team sport for that matter, and the rumours that swirl are more the media's fault than anyone else considering how many trades don't ever happen. If O'Neal gets traded again so soon it will be an exception for a player of his calibre rather than the norm, usually a team would be more patient than that. However, you've got a bit of an unusual situation right now with 2010 being pencilled in as being a huge offseason for potential player movement amongst star players and teams are trying to either prepare cap space for that offseason or prove to their teams they're committed to doing whatever it takes to be competitive so they'll be more inclined to re-sign.
Trades also shake things up and can make things more interesting in my book as teams boast new lineups (in some cases, ones we wouldn't have expected to see) and that can sometimes energise teams and take them to a new level. The Detroit Pistons (1989, 2004) and Houston Rockets (1995) are two examples of teams that made deals midseason and went on to win the championship in the same year. There's a method to the madness, so to speak.
Mon Jan 19, 2009 10:27 am
yeah, but how many times are there trades that only benefit one of both teams
involved in the trade? like the jefferson to the suns trade. wait. jefferson?
no. richardson. lol. you can't tell me that that helped the bobcats.
mid season and last minute pre season trades usually screw over teams and their fans.
and if not usually then more often than not.
I don't mind trades at all. they do make things more interesting.
but trading in the middle of the season seem a bit cheap to me
for some reason you know.
and yeah. 2010 could be a cool year as far as trades go.

But that's business, that's life. You're presented with a decision that has a certain reward and risk to it, you make your choice and you have to live with it. Sometimes it's not a good decision and you'll pay for it.
The timing is sometimes weird but I think that comes down to not being able to hammer out a deal in time amongst other delaying factors. And sometimes teams push the panic button so to speak and make a deal because they're in a rut and feel they need to shake things up. But again, that's something they just have to live with.
