Devin Harris - The next KJ?

Thu Dec 04, 2008 5:34 pm

He's quite a different player than Kevin Johnson actually. Less Assists and turnovers. But right now Harris is playing like one of the best guards in the league. So far this season (14 games), per 36 minutes, devin has a stat line of 24.8 points, 6.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals. Pretty nice. And he's leading a top 10 offense in the league right now (New Jersey currently ranked 6th)

But what's interesting about Harris, is the way in which he goes about it. He's efficient. He's shooting .488 FG%, only 2.0 turnovers per game (low for a point guard), and he's getting to the line an unbelievable 11 times per game, and making 9. He ranks 1st in the league in Free throws made per shot attempt.

It's because of this i'm amazed at devin harris. It's like he's a coach's perfect point guard (i suppose if he was a reliable 3pt shooter he'd be perfect, but still). He doesn't force anything, he lets all his game come to him.

http://www.knickerblogger.net/stats/2009/jh_ALL_PER.htm
What a breakout season for Harris so far this season. Right now he is sitting 6th in the league in PER at 27.8 (Dwight is 5th with 28.5, Boozer is 7th with 25.4).

I can foresee a scenario where devin is named to the all-star team, if he can keep it up. Do you think Harris can continue this level of play throughout the season? I hope so. What a stud.

Use this over Knickerblogger, he calculates it weird: http://www.basketball-reference.com/lea ... _2009.html
He's fifth in PER. Second in the league in ORtg.

Look at that gamelog: http://www.basketball-reference.com/fc/ ... &year=2009

I started paying attention after he ripped off four 30 point games in five. And that 24 FT game. And now a 17/17 one? Brutal.

Too bad the Nets still aren't playing any defense.

And come on, just because he shoots better and has one third the turnovers, he doesn't improve everyones defense with his passing like Jason Kidd. Watch the games Nick.

harris's been awesome. he couldn't have put up those numbers if he was in dallas. glad to see him flourish with an opportunity. he's playing like a first option over VC, which is amazing.

i believe the nets have the potential of being a great team this season, but with all those injuries to Boone, CDR, and Najera you can leave out the offensive awareness of Boone, and the Defense that Najera provides. I think the nets have to work on making those open shots for example bobby simmons is horrible this year, if only the Nets kept RJ we would be a complete team with Harris, Carter, RJ, YI, and Boone at the start nets would have a chance going to playoffs. Harris is doing amazing hopefully he keeps it up and gives nets some hope for a playoff and actually draws more fans to their games, cause from what i see is that nets dont have fan support with half of the arena always empty unless they playing Cavs or Lakers.

without RJ going there wouldn't have been Yi on the team....

tis was always a bad trade, that underrated Harris' ability....

frankly, I'm surprised it took Harris this long to have big impact....I thought coming out of Wisconsin that he would be a very good player....was a bit disappointed that he didn't land in right situation in Dallas, but all seems to be working out now (Y)

Hopefully he has better luck than KJ when it comes to injuries. I too wouldn't be all that surprised if he made the All-Star team this year.

Why do you have Melo in the Eastern Conference Honorable Mentions? Want him to play for the Eastern Conference All Stars in a Barry Farms jersey? Where's the love for Chris Andersen? He's averaging more blocks than Neynard Hillario.

SF - LeBron James
SG - Dwayne Wade
PG - Allen Iverson

Why do somany pick Iverson? His stats are poor (for his high standards) and Harris, Wade, Johnson, Carter... are way better this year.
The same can be said about KG. No way he should be voted in and not Bosh.

Jamison,Butler and BAREA???

Are you kiddin?

Re: Devin Harris - The next KJ?

Sat Dec 06, 2008 7:24 am

Jamison's having the best year of his career.
Why do somany pick Iverson? His stats are poor

Stats are 100% meaningless. The things Iverson does great doesn't show up in the stat sheet, like overdribbling, crossovers and having tatooos. You have to watch the games.

Also endorsement contracts. And fawning talking heads.

And intimidation, respect and leadership.

Depends if you're picking who you think should be in the game (and upon what criteria) or who you think will be in the game. Iverson's a strong possibility to be voted in as a starter, perhaps some people are accounting for that.

Derrick Rose isn't that good, I'd vote in Danilo before Rose. Ugh what a waste of a player D. Rose is.

He's less likely to make it being a rookie (I know rookies get selected but they also get passed over, such as LeBron being held out his first season) but more likely he's not in the discussion right now because of the Bulls' record.
