Celtics interested in McDyess

Thu Nov 06, 2008 6:58 pm

Source: Celtics Want McDyess

The Celtics reportedly have interest in signing Antonio McDyess should the Nuggets ultimately decide to buy out his contract.

Boston initially attempted to sign McDyess in 2004, but he opted to join Detroit.

Most expect McDyess to return to Detroit after the league’s mandatory 30-day waiting period. However, McDyess was reportedly upset by the trade.

Far from a done deal but he'd be a good pickup for the Celtics if the Nuggets buy him out. The loss of Posey is still a blow but with PJ Brown drifting back in to retirement it wouldn't hurt them to add another veteran big to the roster. It just remains to be seen whether the Nuggets are willing to buy him out and whether McDyess feels too slighted by the Pistons to return, though this article suggests Detroit is still his preference.

30 days after he is waived by Denver. But he will be back in Detroit eventually.

It does seem the most likely scenario, though if he is a bit disgruntled with having been traded perhaps it's not a done deal.

I think I've read that he doesn't want to play in Denver and would like to return to Detroit. George Karl wants him in Denver. But I don't know for sure. We will just have to wait and see.

My theory is that samb was added to the deal after it was made clear dyess didnt want to play in denver.

early reports of the trade hadnt had samb involved...

I don't know whether NBA 2K9 holds true... but in the game Dice + Billups did not come close to matching AI's salary. So I thought Samb was there to match salaries  Do I trust the game?

It's not like it's hard to find salary info using the internet.

(The game has McDyess at $5 million and one year remaining. Both of which are definitely wrong.)

Sounds like staying in Denver definitely isn't an option McDyess would prefer.

17 teams want dyess as per realgm 0.o

Not surprising given he's a power forward who, so long as he stays healthy, has something left in the tank and would be a low cost investment. The article on RealGM suggests the Celtics, Cavaliers and Pistons are expected to be the frontrunners and they do seem like the teams that would interest him most based on their chances of making a serious run in the Playoffs and giving him a chance to play. I'm guessing if he doesn't return to Detroit, he'll sign with the Celtics.

Agent: Not A Lock That McDyess Will Return To Detroit

Andy Miller, the agent for forward Antonio McDyess, claims that it's not a foregone conclusion that the veteran will return to the Pistons.

"It's not a foregone conclusion that he'll go back to Detroit," Miller told ESPN.com. "We're sifting through everything that has transpired. I don't think 'hurt' would be the way to characterize how he felt about being traded, but he was caught off guard."

It doesn't exactly rule Detroit out but perhaps teams like the Celtics and Cavs have a better shot at signing him than it first appeared.

Celtics Pull Out Of Race For McDyess

Contrary to the previous article, it seems Detroit does remain his most likely destination.
