Chalmers, Arthur caught with marijuana

Postby -Young Buck- on Thu Sep 04, 2008 11:44 am

March Madness heroes Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur were thrown out of the NBA's rookie transition program on Wednesday morning after being caught in their hotel room with marijuana and women, according to several sources.

"They were sent home for violating program rules," NBA spokesman Brian McIntyre said.

Sources said Chalmers and Arthur, who starred on the Kansas Jayhawks' 2008 NCAA championship team, were also fined $20,000 apiece and could start the regular season on the suspended list. But McIntyre would not confirm that.

"We're still looking into it," McIntyre said. "Once we have all the details, appropriate sanctions will be taken."

They should ask the veterans for tips on how not to get caught.

At least they weren't caught in the room together. In a situation more compromising than smoking marijuana.

That's a good start on their career... When NBA opens again they are in the suspended list...hahaha

If that is their attitude they will not last long in the NBA...

This is ridiculous. The NBA shouldn't even care. Half the players in the NBA smoke weed, so what? That stuff shouldn't even be considered a drug. And unless they take something performance enhancing (which weed certainly is not  ) they shouldn't even give a damn about what the players do in their spare time, in my opinion.

I'd say the NBA's stance on the matter is related to the legality of marijuana and like any other company or organisation, they have a right to develop and enforce their own rules and policies.

Sources: Stern Made Call To Kick Out Chalmers And Arthur

Several sources described Stern as being furious.

The commissioner's anger was apparently evident when he began his speech; he mentioned Chalmers and Arthur by name and told the 67 rookies in attendance that the two would be thrown out of the program and forced to attend the 2009 session.

One can understand his anger, I only wish he would show that kind of fury over controversial calls that compromise the integrity of the game.

I wouldn't go that far, Washburn and Tarpley had far more serious drug problems.

I still remember Chalmers 3 pointer... It was a great jump to the NBA but now...

What do you think guys? Will Stern suspend them?

Now think that they were caught with marijuana, different that Josh Howard that said that he smoke but nobody saw him doing that

I thought marijuana was a socially acceptable drugs these days. It's not like they were caught doing lines of coke.

The Marijuana policy in the NBA goes like this:

You get fined 10,000 for your first failed test in a season, 15,000 for your second, suspended 5 games for your third. Every player gets tested twice a year and you get tested a third time if your team requests it. Guys like Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson pay the 25,000 up front before every season starts.

I think we should go back to the days where it was illegal for farmers not to grow weed in the US. Before the yellow journalism campaign began by using a mexican slang word for the plant- "marihuana". Weed is illegal for completely racist reasons, in fact hemp is one of the most versatile plants and could solve a lot of our problems (and I'm not even talking about smoking it).

So farmers should face penalty if they don't grow marijuana?
