Where was he last season anyway?
Edit: Miles missed all of the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons due to microfracture surgery on his right knee.
I know now why.

The interesting thing is that even if he doesn't make it through the whole season with the Celtics, if he plays at least ten games the Blazers will have his previous salary on their books again since the exception for his injury which had been ruled career ending will be null and void.
I wouldn't have expected the Celtics to be the ones to give him another shot though. It's not like it's a huge risk for them financially or otherwise but I wouldn't have thought they'd be interested in his services.

Perhaps Danny Ainge has a higher opinion of Portland's chances than I do and is secretly plotting to ruin their cap situation.

Damn, haven't heard much of this guy for ages.

Well I'm assuming the Celtics were pretty much desperate to replace posey so they took a shot with D-miles.
Sat Aug 23, 2008 1:41 pm
Maybe so, but Miles doesn't bring defense or three point shooting to the table as Posey does so he's not much of a replacement.
Sat Aug 23, 2008 5:15 pm
i heard he's only at like 80% of his old self at max.
thought it'd be easier for the celtics to improve the roster during the offseason, but it ain't seem like it's gonna be that way. they making adjustments and not changes just like what any defending champions usually do. wonder if they can stay atop again.

yeah, if this is the celts plan to replace posey we are fucked

Hold up, I thought his injury was career-ending?

I thought that too, but maybe that's just Jonathan Bender? It could've been a season ending injury. Hmm.

if he plays enuf games, then he'll get paid tons of money from portland. one good motivation to come back from career ending injury, lol. blazers should be worried about celtics playing miles. it'll mean millions of dollars to them.

i think the celtcs will be little bitches and play him 1 minute for 10 games just to screw the up and coming Blazers

That was the the prognosis that allowed the Blazers an exception to cut him while also wiping his contract from the books. I guess that assessment was pessimistic (or optimistic, depending on which way you look at it).

Happy to see Miles back on the court...
I always liked him. He took 2 years to recover... I hope he is fine to play at least 10 minutes a game
Good luck buddy

Posey was an excellent role player for the Celtics, hitting some big shots in the playoffs. WTF does Miles give you?

eww... they added another beat up, worn down player. its becoming more obvious that celts were only looking for a short-term championship run. with all 3 superstars approaching their mid 30's in 2010, i give them 2 more years max.
Fri Aug 29, 2008 11:57 am
People always say that like it's a bad thing. I think loading up for two or three legitimate title runs rather than constantly building for a future that never comes is the better way to go if it yields a championship as Boston's efforts did. The same goes for Miami; they won a title which only a few teams can boast this decade and only about half the league can boast period and they're not in terrible shape moving forward. If there's a championship, the roll of the dice has been worth it.
As for the Miles signing, he might not even make it through training camp if his knee doesn't hold up or the Celtics feel he'd be taking up a spot on the roster that would be better served going to someone else. As I said it's surprising and it doesn't replace what Posey brought to the table but if nothing else it's low risk.
