Who the best rookie in nba in your opinion?
I think Kevin Durant.

Fri Apr 25, 2008 9:01 am

I will consider Scola, he has much more experience than the others guys. He is older than the others, but he has been the most valuable player in europe-

Fri Apr 25, 2008 9:09 am

How can you even begin to count Oden? He was out all season. I'd say Durant.

Fri Apr 25, 2008 9:31 am

My pick is still Kevin Durant. Al Horford has a had fine rookie season coming close to averaging a double double but he's not the face of the Hawks, a role Durant now finds himself in with the Sonics. He had his struggles with poor shooting games but now that the season's in the books, Durant's numbers are more than respectable. I still expect he'll be the Rookie of the Year and deservingly so.

Fri Apr 25, 2008 9:35 am

Oden with be an 2008-09 rookie.

Al Horford is my pick for ROY (and I thought that Kevin Durant has been terrible this season anyway) but Kevin Durant is still the most talented rookie in the NBA.

Fri Apr 25, 2008 9:38 am

I'll pick Al Horford, though it'll likely go to Durant. Put Durant on the Hawks and Horford on the Sonics, then Horford would win it... that is, unless Collison and Wilcox takes all the minutes.

Really, terrible? I wish a couple of Bulls players had seasons as terrible as Kevin Durant.

Fri Apr 25, 2008 9:56 am

I would go that far. His season has been reminiscent of Antoine Walker back when he got named to the all-star game. He was never that good, or was beneficial to the team, he just scored a lot. Granted, Durant had one month where he benefited his team (march) but for the season as a whole, he sucked.

Fri Apr 25, 2008 10:27 am

Well, first of all I would consider Scola.
I picked Horford because he's the double doubles leader among the rookies and Atlante qualified for the playoffs after nine seasons.

Fri Apr 25, 2008 10:29 am

I had go with Horford. He's a winner & is a guaranteed All-Star PF for years to come (Y)

Although I couldn't fault anybody for selecting Durant either

Fri Apr 25, 2008 10:56 am

Horford gets my vote

Fri Apr 25, 2008 11:01 am

There's 4 people picking Horford and only 2 votes in the poll so far?

Edit: It updated. Weird post lag.

What? 4 votes, cy, what the hell.

Just voted for Horford.

I'd say Kevin Durant is the best rookie so far, he still has so much room to grow and has so much potential. Yes he had a disappointing season for many, buts that because of the incredibly high expectations set for him. He still averaged about 20 points and he seemed to play a lot better during the last stretch of season. Although it is pretty pathetic that he only one double digit rebounding game (and one double-double) and it came in the season finale. His last game was one of his best games during the season.

Horford seems to be more well rounded player, but I don't see him getting enormously better. He has room to improve too, but I don't think he will get to be on the same level of KD.

Sat Apr 26, 2008 3:46 am

thing is though, the ROY should not be based on potential but on who did what. imo durant will be the better rookie but i would give horford the nod for the ROY award

Sat Apr 26, 2008 5:32 am

I'll say Scola...
Soooo i'll vote for other

Sat Apr 26, 2008 6:33 am

My vote goes to Kevin Durant.
But Al Horford is more deserving of ROY simply because his team improved.
The Sonics are still crap like last year.

Sat Apr 26, 2008 6:34 am

Who cares if Horford's team got better? What does that have to do with which rookie was the best player?

A few stats?

And your choice is...?

Sat Apr 26, 2008 10:34 am

Benji isn't here to have his own opinions, he is here to crush ours.

Sat Apr 26, 2008 10:44 am

What is the criteria for "best rookie"? What is the composition of my team? Etc.

Obviously Carl Landry does the most things to win, and for rookies over 1500 minutes, Young does. Durant and Horford "did more stuff" because they played way more minutes.

Sat Apr 26, 2008 11:03 am

I actually wondered if this topic would get locked because it was so vague and this question has been touched upon a million times. Finally, the Ben Wallace of the forum lays the smack down.

"Best" is a vague adjective, but I went with the flow and went with overall talent and skill.

BTW, don't forget Nick Fazekas. In his 3-4 minutes or so a game, he has more assists and rebounds than Landry.

Sat Apr 26, 2008 11:12 am

More defensive rebounds, but fewer offensive rebounds, and almost 50% more turnovers, as well as shooting worse.

That said, Fazekas was my favorite rookie prior to the season and thought he definitely should've been in the league all year long getting good minutes. I only included him because of that. He shouldn't have really been in the table.

Horford might be the "best rookie" for the Hawks (although I may disagree with that) but I don't know if there were better rookies for the Sonics, they need a player who has superstar potential, and despite his merely average performance Durant showed he can use insane amounts of possessions. Young basically only used half as many possessions.

It's not like Durant killed the Sonics season, they weren't going to be very good anyway.

Maybe if the crushable opinions start to fade away...
