street ball bet!!

Sun Apr 20, 2003 6:54 pm

InsideHoops.com has been told that famous streetballer Bone Collector has made a public challenge to Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson to individual $50,000 winner-take-all games of one-on-one basketball, with the loser giving his money to the winner’s favorite charity.

Bone Collector, a quick point guard with great handles and some pretty sick moves, has gained fame by breaking people's ankles playing in the Entertainer's Basketball Classic at Rucker Park.

can u belive that!!!! man a friendly 1on1 is ok, but for 50....how tall is Bone Collector, if he was to play Kobe, Kobe could just post up over him...
iverson maybe, Kobe no way. kobe is like a pg but 6'8 or 6'7. he would just do anything fo attention...

Sun Apr 20, 2003 7:03 pm

maybe he likes beeing raped!

Sun Apr 20, 2003 7:37 pm

I doubt Kobe or Iverson would actually do it. I remember a few years back, Nick Van Exel was fined for competing in an unsanctioned game (a reunion of his 1992 Cincinnati college team vs a touring Russian team I think), which was not covered by the insurance of his NBA contract. It would probably be a similar deal here.

Not to mention Kobe and Iverson are somewhat busy right now.

I saw the bone collector in SLAM a couple issues ago. H's about 6'1'' 6'2'', BTW Kobe is officially 6'6'' according to nba.com.

Mon Apr 21, 2003 4:43 am

he´s 6´7

Mon Apr 21, 2003 7:04 am

I could see Kobe doing it. He went to Rucker last summer. Maybe he thinks he'll be getting street cred by doing this. Yeah right.

NBA.com isn't always right. Dennis Rodman and Charles Barkley were always listed taller than they really are.

Mon Apr 21, 2003 12:52 pm

I think Kobe might be taller than he is actually listed. When he stand's next to Shaq hes up to his Top Shoulder/Bottom of Chin, so I think he is around 6'7-6'8.

Unless Shaq is shorter than listed

Mon Apr 21, 2003 9:51 pm

we ALL know that nba lists player taller of shorter then actual are, i think its the players who whoa say what they want to get be listed as. so that they can or cant play a sertain possition... but thats not not the point...

there is no way he could play Kobe, kobe is just too tall, i understand in a team, coz then there are team mates to screen and help out, but at one on one, nothing, he migh be able to get a point or 2 but not much more....

AI on the other hand would be a better match up!!

and a lil bio...

Larry Williams aka "The Bone Collector''

One of the best, if not the best point guard in the sport. Larry has the ability to break defenses down and get to the paint at any time. Larry has excellent vision which allows him to find the open man on his penetrations. Larry aka "Bone Collector" has gained notoriety and respect in the U.S. for being able to dominate top NBA guards (Jamal Tinsley, Larry Hughes, Baron Davis, Stephon Marbury, and Moochie Norris) during summer "streetball" games. Larry was the 2002 MVP of the famed Entertainers Basketball Classic at Rucker Park.

Bone's ridiculous handles and the quickest first step in the business combined with the most dazzling moves, vicious cross over, and excellent knowledge of the game has not only street ball legends shaking in their shoes; he has NBA stars recognizing his skills and trying to make sure they are not isolated with him. This winter, Larry announced that he was "going pro", and hired the SBA Sports Management Group to represent him in all professional basketball matters. He is currently training with Jerrod Mustaf of the Street Basketball Association and SBA Sports Training. The SBA Sports Management and Entertainment Group will work directly with Bone and J Monster (personal Manager) to help him achieve his dream of making it to the league. Bone had a chance to travel with the SBA All-stars to Europe to witness first hand professional basketball teams from Europe and South America to help prepare him mentally on what is come in the future. Bone will play in the USBL from April- June to obtain professional experience and statistics and to allow scouts to see first hand how explosive his game is prior to the NBA draft.

Larry Williams was raised in Texas and Pasadena, Ca. where he started playing high school basketball as a freshman but decided not to play his junior nor senior because he and his father thought that the coaches would hinder his collegiate prospects. He attended Chaffey Jr. College and then transferred to Globe Institute of Technology in New York City. After first arriving in New York, The Bone Collector played against a handful of NBA players and the top street ballers on the East coast. After dominating the summer scene and making players fall on his crossover on the regular it did not take long for people to consider Bone the BEST "streetball" player in the world." In a recent interview Bone was known as the first player to "twist ankles and tear ligaments with a single dribble" of the unlucky players that had to defend him. During the past year Bone has been touring the country showcasing his God-given talent in a variety of street ball exhibitions all the while adding more video clips and highlights to his highly anticipated Bone Collector DVD due to be released the summer of 2003.

In addition, there has been an ongoing dialogue between The Bone Collector and A.I. for a match-up between the dueling ankle breakers. According to Bone; Allen Iverson has no answer for him. As it stands now the verbal challenge has been issued; the ball is in your court A.I. The SBA is ready to set the stage for what would be a highly anticipated battle.

don't take the article too serious, they tend to hype little things up into big things, for example :

dominate top NBA guards (Jamal Tinsley, Larry Hughes, Baron Davis, Stephon Marbury, and Moochie Norris) during summer "streetball" games.

okay soi what goes on in the summer is serious? Hell he probably only got them once, and the writers make it sound like it was regularly. Also list how many times they got him back.
Think about, he's the best street baller.
considering they play no D and suck on streets compared to the L, i'm not impressed.

Thu Apr 24, 2003 5:36 am

And they make traveling fouls all the time. Just put a good ref over there and they will be nothing

Thu Apr 24, 2003 4:22 pm

not to discredit streetballers out there....
but if any streetballer was to play one on one with an NBA player the caliber of Kobe or A.I with an NBA ref present..... the street baller would lose every time.
ok, maybe i will discredit....
street guys dont play good defense, and rely on moves that are illegal in NBA play (they require talent, yes, but...).... lots of palming, traveling and double dribbles to break down defenders..... i remember Skip To My Lou (Reafer Alston) from Toronto Raptors trying some bullshit on the court and the ref called him on it immediatlly.... street players are more focused on looking good than playing well.
and another thing, how does someone like "Bone Collecter" know that guys like Kobe, and A.I. when put into a street style game wont be able to do the same crap they do??? Larry Bird would probly still wup his ass, and he had no "style"
and its funny i never heard of the guy.....
and if these street guys are so good, (the Future, AO, Booger, Half Man Half Amazing ect....) why arent they coming to NBA training camps and winning walk-on positions on NBA teams???? what, they dont want the money??? they cant hang without the bullshit moves.
but thats just my opinion

 Remember that Kobe dunk everyone thought was so great?

Or what about MJ's carrying of the ball?

Fri Apr 25, 2003 3:50 am

These street ballers are stupid. Hobe and A.I are seasoned vets..not little wannabe kids showing off against even weaker kids. I'm pretty sure kobe bryant and A.I know how to do those moves..especially A.I but they don't waste time with um in a real NBA game. Not to mention NBA ballers like kobe have perfected the jumpshot...unlike street ballers who focus on dunking and dribbling.

With that said...i think A.I can beat him...or can loose.. (cause i seen bone collector play)..but i'm sure kobe will kick his ass
.

Kobe doesn't seem like the kinda guy who will waste time with that anyway. The guy is a married husband and father..with a growing business empire...modeling job...and a NBA career ..not to mention rapping (lol). Iverson also seems like a guy who isn't up for bullshit. He'd have more luck challenging a little hot head like lebron james or something.

Very true, I forget whose, but somebody's avatar has Iverson doing the spinmove where you palm the ball behind your back and flip it the other way. Quite nifty.

Fri Apr 25, 2003 3:53 pm

I agree with Yohance, I doubt AI or Kobe will actually take up the bet. Like I said, there's probably something in their contracts that would prevent them from taking part in such a challenge (since it's not sanctioned by the NBA but still an organised event) anyway.

Bone Collector has made a public challenge to Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson

Bone Collector DVD due to be released the summer of 2003

all that publicity stunt just to promote his DVD...
individual $50,000 winner-take-all games of one-on-one basketball, with the loser giving his money to the winner’s favorite charity.

I guess the Bone Collector doesn't know that amount is 'lunch money' compared to Kobe and AI's salary.
Kobe and Iverson could give $100,000 each to their favorite charity and Bone Collector's favortie charity and even give $50,000 to Bone Collector himself and the amount would still be considered peanuts by AI and Kobe...
It's not about the cred or the rep...it's not even about charity...it's all about publicity...for that DVD...all for money...

prestige of what? for charity?
Kobe and Iverson could give $100,000 each to their favorite charity and Bone Collector's favortie charity and even give $50,000 to Bone Collector himself

prestige of defeating Kobe or AI?
When the Bone Collector can't even play outright in the NBA and has to play in the USBL...
why arent they coming to NBA training camps and winning walk-on positions on NBA teams???? what, they dont want the money???

Tue Apr 29, 2003 6:50 am

I know that AO has played in the NBDL.

Rafer Alston was actually really good when he got signed but then I think Alvin Williams came back and his PT went down.

Street Ball and NBA Basketball are totally different. Earl "The Goat" Manigult was supposed to be awesome once he got the the league, but legal problems messed him up. Some NBA Players could play street maybe(A.I., Stephon Marbury, MJ in his prime). Very little street ballers could get into a league(CBA, USBL, NBDL). They couldn't hit jumpers if their life depended on it. I saw this move by Hot Sauce, it was incredible. But it game him an open shot not a drive to the basket. He aired the shot. But the crowd didn't care. They love the move too much. The NBA's elite can't do what the Street Ball's elite can do and vice versa.

I beg to differ. Put Kobe or Iverson out on a streetball court and they can do those same things for sure. Difference with streetballers is that they can't play D or shoot the ball in general.

Obviously some of you didn't see video of Starbury's run up in Coney 2 summers ago.
