Postby havasufalls on Thu Feb 28, 2008 8:23 am

Brown is back and he chose the Celts as the team to go after that title he has yet to get his hands on.

I wasnt aware the Celtics had any cap room. How the hell do these teams afford players? Dallas is going to sign Magloire, then this. Whoever Barry signs with will probably be over the cap. Are they using their MLE?

But nice pickup for the celts. Now all they need is a backup PG.

probably they used the veteran's minimum on signing brown.

BOSTON - The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed center-forward P.J. Brown. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.(From NBA.COM)

Nice little signing for Boston. Spurs getting Thomas was better though.

They're signing for the veteran minimum.

Solid late season signing for the Celtics, it's not a move that guarantees anything but Brown can play at power forward and centre, is decent in the post and fairly reliable from midrange and can defend. Even after missing the first 50+ games of the season, he's an upgrade over Scot Pollard.

There will probably be a couple more of these signings for the vet min up until Mar 1. Check this link out. http://hoopshype.com/free_agency.htm. There are still a lot of serviceable players out there. This is certainly one of the most interesting NBA seasons (dealing/business-wise).

A lot?? I disagree, that list just consider the player who hasn´t filled their retirement paper work or have gone to europe.

I will name 5 out that list that can offer little help
actually
1- Brent Barry
2- Chris Andersen
2- Jim Jackson
3- Jalen Rose
4- Doug Christie

Still a pretty bad list.

The Full list is even worst, including shaw kemp, clarence wheresthespoon and gary trent.

Ruben Patterson, Flip Murray, Gary Payton, Olowokandi and Brent Barry, among others can still be of use.

OK signing, but it does nothing to fix the PG problem.

I don't think it's suposed too - I guess they are still waiting for Sam Cassel (unless this deal makes it economically impossible - I'm not really aware of their financial status).

It shouldn't prevent them from signing Cassell as well, now that he's been made available.

Almost anyone is an upgrade over Pollard :)
I'm not that familiar with Brown's style of play but at least he's big and he's a veteran. When will we see him play?

Cassell could be a nice addition, he's been there (finals) and seen it and the guy is a beast with his mid-range game. Even though he's old.
I still think the "PG issue" with the Celtics is a bit overrated since Rondo has exceeded everyone's expectations, right? On the other hand, Rondo can be inconsistent and a veteran point guard would also help Rondo learn more about the game (from the viewpoint of a PG, KG,Ray and Pierce certainly have taught the kid alot)

Given the Celtics' record, the point guard issue was probably a little overblown before the season but given that Rondo isn't as experienced as Cassell and House isn't really a true point guard, the addition of Cassell would address some issues that haven't caused a major problem yet but are still noteworthy for a team looking to make a serious run at a championship.

I like this signing. Brown is a solid power forward, and should give KG some rest down the stretch (Y)

I expect he'll be able to be a competent backup for Perkins as well, particularly in the postseason. I can't imagine KG will be resting too much then.

I meant towards the end of the season, like when they have clinched home-court or whatever they got after. Then KG can be fresher for the postseason.

I figured that. I just meant that KG will likely be playing heavy minutes in the postseason, so Brown will likely see more minutes alongside him rather than in place of him.
