Ben Wallace Injured And Possibly Out

Postby Matt on Mon Apr 07, 2003 8:54 pm

yep, what a blow this is to the team

looks like and early playoff exit :(

Pistons lost to the Spurs by 6.........not bad since they played w/o Billups, Atkins and had Wallace for only 18mins (in which he had 10 reb, 2blk)

The news might not be as bad as it appears. The Pistons will likely face either Orlando or Milwaukee (or possibly Washington) in the first round - they could probably still have a good shot at winning without Wallace. He might then be available for the second round and beyond, since there's six games left in the regular season he could sit out and a maximum of seven in the first round (in fact, the new playoff format might prove to be beneficial here).

If the injury is going to force him out any longer than that, it's probably going to be hard for Detroit to advance past the second round, but giving up won't do them any good. Hopefully further reports will indicate the injury is not as serious as expected.

If he doesn't play in the first round I can see a team like Orlando or the Bucks destroying them.

Those are exactly the kind of teams that would not destroy them due to their lack of an inside presence that would need to be defended by Wallace. Teams like Indiana, New Orleans and to lesser extent Philadelphia and New Jersey are who they'd want to play as late as possible, Robinson can't do it all alone.

Dan, Wallace doesn't only play post defence but is also a great help defender and shot blocker. Tmac will eat them up with no Wallace. Furthermore, Detroit is 24th in rebounding with the league leader in the lineup just think how they'll do rebounding without him.

Orlando can beat anyone and the Bucks are not that bad, unless they let the Wiz play instead I think the Pistons are in a bad position. I agree the Pistons still have a good team but Wallace was the only scaring guy in the post like TheBob said.

However, like Andrew said, there's still few more games to go and a 1st round would last another 2 weeks hopefully so if the series extend to the maximum, the Pistons might still have a chance to get Wallace on time. I'm not saying they are disq. but obviously those 2 teams can give them a very hard time.

Then I'd say my analysis was correct. Who knows, I might be able to make a prediction for ROY now...nah, I'll still say Amare/Ming as co-ROY.

same here...the east is very competitive...the 8th seed can beat the 1st seat without much worries, and vice versa......the east is practicly built on injuries....the team with injuries doesn't progress...[/quote]

well D got Rebraca back and he's been aight in his first 2 games........since Wallace went down Okur is getting more PT (45mins a team high vs Bulls) and is real important to the teams success. He's the teams second best rebounder, he can score (from everywhere) and he plays D which is what the team is based on

oh well, these kinda things happen....just gotta deal with them because every team goes through key injuries

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Big Ben will be back to start the playoffs!!

Lakers vs Pistons in the NBA Finals

by the way, whos seen the power rankings at Espn.com.....man talk about biased towards the East teams.
Top 5 are all West teams.
Pistons should be there, they've shown they can win without there best defensive(maybe even best) player.

A wins a win, who cares how much it was by??
if its game 7 of the nba finals and you win by a point, does it really matter in the end?
the point is you won!

i believe wallace will healthy for the playoffs. they are my favorite in the east. billups is the 'marbury' of the eastern conference...

give the bulls some credit, big country bryant fan. bulls have a better record at home then the celts and sixers.

i do give bulls credit, but whats ugly is that they are like 3-38 on the road.
they will be in the playoffs next year people. Eddy Curry gettin shit goin, Chandler, Williams hopefully gets goin.
there lineup will be very interesting next year.
crawford played superbly well late in the season.

in my book...

geeeee, i guess the sixers suck after they got there asses handed to them by the bulls today.

doesn't sound you are giving the bulls credit in that statement

hmm to say the bulls will be in the playoffs next year but also to say teams sucks if they lose to the bulls... oh nevermind

Any team that's basically in contention for the number 1 spot in the east and gets "their asses handed to them" by a sub-500 means the team played an absolutley terrible game, or they've been only playing the cavs and nuggets this season. However that's only in my book
