After all the buzz around the KG deal the Nets might resume the talks with the Pacers to bring O'neal.
Link Here
I wonder if the Nets will go through with this, the Pacers want R.Jefferson, M.Williams, J.Collins and N.Krstic for O'neal.
Upsides:
Kidd and Carter could use a dominant big men so this could create a very strong starting five for the Nets if they bring in a decent SF like Barnes/Posey through FA, the starting five could look like this:
C- J.Magloire
PF- J.O'neal
SF- Barnes/Posey/Nachbar/.....
SG- V.Carter
PG- J.Kidd
Very nice for the east.
Downsides:
The Nets are giving up too many players and with a thin bench already, they will need to bring free agents to fill the holes. For RJ they must search for a replacement unless they count on Boki to start. For M.Williams, who is supposed to be their future PG, they must bring a replacement too (someone like Knight/Boykins should do the job). Not to mention that they will have J.Boone and S.Williams to backup their big men and that's not enough, plus they are still searching for helpful SG/SF.

Stupid idea. I might give Krstic and Jefferson, maybe a couple picks, but nothing more. Jefferson is still a good player, last season was pretty damn bad and riddled with numerous injuries. When healthy, he's god for 20 points and 7 boards a night. Remember when he was putting up 22/7/4? He is part of the reason it's called the big 3.
Krstic looked really promising before the injury and he's what - 23, 24? He looks like a definate keeper, could come close to a 20/10 guy in the future.
Marcus Williams is the point gaurd of the future. I wouldn't trade him unless he was the centerpiece of a really, really good deal. With this trade, he's just a throw in. He's more than that. Come Kidd's retirement, I think we will see a Deron Williams type season from Marcus.
Jason Collins I don't care much for at all, but the Nets are already giving up too much, unless he's just there to make salaries work.
Jermaine is great and all, but he hasn't even played 60 games for 3 straight years. I realize he is still pretty young (28, 29?), will give New Jersey 20/10 with great defence and won't be retiring for a good 5 years, but it's still too much. As of production right now, Jefferson/Krstic are giving the Nets more than Jermaine can. Then you throw in Marcus Williams, their future point?
If I'm the Nets, no thank you.

i wonder if a move like this will be done by the nets cause of the garnett deal? i guess i would go either way on this one, personally i dont think the nets will win with what they got so they need to do something, its a chance probably worth taking

JO for that much? sounds not much different from KG deal
R jefferson is more than a good player and krstic is one of fine promising big man
but with kid & vince aging and still after a first title, that might be a move they have to pull
cuz with current roster, it will be another same year for nets

I love RJ and Nenad, but we definitelly gotta make some changes if we really wanna win the championship. JO could be a major help, because without a great big man on your team you can't win the NBA. In the future... we'll see... plus I hate Marcus Williams, I feel he doesn't like to be in the Nets and he's not as good as he could be because of the way he thinks and acts. I would go through the deal, althouhg I will miss RJ a lot (I still miss Kenyon

)
GO, NETS!!
iPhone, Biatch!!

like i said, they gotta do something. they wont win with what they got and carter and kidd are not gonna get younger. i still say pull the trigger if you can

Yes, and they lost Miki Moore. They need a PF or a C with superstar level. They can still make the playoffs, but will not last that long (just like in the past few seasons).

Why not get Kenyon Martin back? He definitely isn't needed in Denver, Nuggets will send him for anything, a 1st rounder will do it.

Yes, Kenyon isn't needed on Denver anymore...They don't have someone who constantly lobs the ball to him for an alley oop. Plus Nene has improved.
I agree with you here, Kmart complements Jkidd well. He plays well when someone as good as Kidd passes him the ball. I never really liked Kmart's one-on-one skills. I remembered during the series with the Clips where he got raped by Brand.

Two words, microfracture surgery.
If KMart was capable of playing at his old level Denver would not have been forced to resign Nene to a bad contract, at $10M a year.

From the sounds of that article, any Jermaine O'Neal to New Jersey talks would appear to be dead.
Thu Aug 02, 2007 1:18 pm
I'd pull the trade, except I wouldn't let go of Marcus Williams. The Nets, with O'Neal and Carter, would end up better than Boston because they have Jason Kidd, who I believe is a point god. Eh, I'd get rid of Marcus, because this is NJ's best shot at a title if they can get O'Neal.
Edit: As Andrew said, the article doesn't really give an indication that a trade is brewing.

A caliber SF? You mean like Danny Granger, Shawne Williams, Marquis Daniels or Mike Dunleavy?
That is the one position we don't need any help with.
I don't dislike the New Jersey deal, but I would want to get a 3rd team involved and send Jefferson to someone else. I think maybe a 3 way where Dallas gets RJ and we get Jason Terry.
Fri Aug 03, 2007 2:43 am
Nice thinking of a third team Indy, but I doubt that Dallas will be that team, they already have Josh Howard and Devean George at SF.
I hope that the Nets will be able to bring a really good big men this summer, Krstic and Magloire are good players but I'm afraid it won't be enough.
Bringing K-Mart will be a dream comes true, but it's very hard to see it happening. Anyone knows when he's contract ends?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I haven't read something that funny in a long time.
If New Jersey wanted Kenyon Martin back, I'm pretty sure George Karl and the entire Nuggets organization will personally build the new Nets stadium in Brooklyn with their bare hands.

they already have Josh Howard and A walking piece of rotting flesh at SF.
Fixed.

Well I don't see the Nuggets shopping K-Mart, do you?
I think it has less to do with his ability and more with his big ass contract, not many teams in the league can absorb it (although the Knicks can always try..).
If offered with a good deal, I don't think the Nets will pass on the chance to try to reunite K-Mart with Kidd, even at 50% he is still better than Collins/Boone/S.Williams, plus he fits the team like a glove.
EDIT: Decided to make this thread the official Nets thread since the last active Nets thread was in Thu Feb 01, 2007 2:44 am
