Bloomberg News reported Friday that Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor is open to trading Kevin Garnett, a statement that at first glance raises eyebrows.
But the quotes from Taylor don't reveal anything the owner hasn't said in the past.
Taylor told Bloomberg: "I certainly don't think you never say never. I wouldn't close the door to it."
That's consistent with Taylor's stance in the past.
During the preseason in October, Taylor told the Pioneer Press regarding the idea of rebuilding the team without Garnett: "I wouldn't want to say to you it wouldn't happen. ... I'm saying I don't see that because I want to win. But if you say to me, is there a circumstance? Yeah, if we just decide to go all young. ... I'm not interested in doing that (going young), but that's still something you have to think about if things don't work out."
There's another reason to believe there's no smoke behind Taylor's comment. Wolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale said Thursday the organization doesn't plan to trade Garnett.
Taylor can be one of the most outspoken owners in the NBA. In certain contexts, his words can appear to carry more weight if not balanced with the appropriate perspective.
Taylor was in New York attending NBA meetings and did not return a message left at his office. Garnett's agent, Andy Miller, also did not return a message.

in the NBA draft. The exact draft order will be determined May 22 when the league holds the lottery.
The Wolves and Portland Trail Blazers finished tied for the league's sixth-worst record (32-50). The Blazers won the tiebreaker conducted by the NBA and are slotted to pick sixth, ahead of Minnesota.
Last season, the Wolves and Boston finished with 33-49 records, and Minnesota won the tiebreaker for the sixth pick.
The Wolves and Blazers each have 53 chances out of 1,000 to win the lottery. The draft is June 28.
Minnesota will send a second-round pick (No. 36 or No. 37) to the Golden State Warriors to complete the Marc Jackson trade in 2002. The Wolves shipped Dean Garrett and the pick to Golden State for Jackson.
The Wolves will receive the No. 41 or No. 42 pick in the second round from Philadelphia to complete the draft-night trade with the 76ers last year. The Wolves sent Bobby Jones to the Sixers in exchange for a second-round pick and cash considerations.

He is NOT on the market. This is the same thing Taylor has been saying for years. He basically means if Garnett wants to be traded they'll deal him. Last year they said if they mutally agreed on seperating they would. However...
McHale said he has no plans in trading Garnett.
Garnett said he has no plans in demanding a trade.
Taylor and Garnett recently sat down and discussed a potential contract extension.
He isn't on the market and he won't be traded. He'll certainly be back on the Wolves for next season and hopefully they'll get an extension done before the end of next season.

get an extension and further kill Minny's chances of a future.....

I don't think having him stay in Minnesota is going to kill the future of Minnesota. The future is pretty much already dead.

Riot just lost all hope.

well the best bet for the wolves is to keep him now. they wont do better without him. no one gonna want to go sign onto that train wreck

Kevin McHale is an idiot.
My autistic cousin would be a better GM.

what about Kidd for KG
Tue Apr 24, 2007 7:17 am
Kidd for KG won't do...as the Wolves wouldnt want an aging point guard...and a tip for trading is "dont trade big for small" or vice versa...i think the wolves would actually do better with minnesota..they still have an option of a sign and trade deal...and get some rooks for the future...so...wolves future aint dead yet..

There's discussion that KG could be traded to the Suns:
http://realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=675210
Who knows how credible the source is, but after reading a bit, it appears that Amare is more likely to be traded. It doesn't make much sense, but it seems Suns management isn't too happy with him.
Mon Jun 18, 2007 3:13 pm
Was Amare still whining for the Suns to get a C because he wants to play PF all the time?
Mon Jun 18, 2007 3:24 pm
Interesting...normally i don't even bother w/ KG rumors but we are getting close to the end of his contract now.
If i was Minny, i'd pull on an Amare for KG trade. Clearly they're not going anywhere & KG is getting older & more expensive, rebuild won't be nearly as painful knowing you have Amare to build around.
Mon Jun 18, 2007 3:35 pm
KG better get up and ask for a trade soon, otherwise he is going to be retired and wishing he did something.
Mon Jun 18, 2007 4:32 pm
Amare is dreaming if he thinks he can be as good in Minnesota as he was Phoenix. Not to say he wont still be good and be an All Star and stuff like that, but he's better with Steve Nash than without him.
Mon Jun 18, 2007 10:16 pm
its all about ego, some players cant stand being the second banana. kg would work out well in phoenix i think. probably would be good deal for both teams but, i dont think we will ever see it happen
Tue Jun 19, 2007 3:21 am
same rumors every year pretty much. kg going everywhere and in the end he stays where he is
edit: after reading the link, i would never make such a deal if i am boston. no way in hell
Tue Jun 19, 2007 8:36 am
Yeah, giving up Jefferson for Garnett is bad enough, but also giving away Green and a draft pick? If the deal does go through, Danny Ainge would officially be on crack.
Tue Jun 19, 2007 8:43 am
no way in hell can the celts give up both jefferson and the pick, it would just ruin the team.

Minny may be taking tracking KG's years of service. KG will be going into his 13th year next season.
Kareem started dropping production in his 13th year. The guy who was once 34, 17, and 5 had dwindled down to his last year at 10 & 4 per game.
Bill Russell's 13th year was his last.
Karl Malone, possibly the most durable PF ever, scored 27-31 ppg for 13 years, in his 14th he dropped to 23 and continued to decline and joined the Lakers as a roleplayer.
In Olajuwon's 13th year he dropped from 27-28 ppg a few years ago to 23 ppg. In his 14th year, he was 16 ppg and couldn't pull even 10 rpg.
By all accounts, Minny should see a serious drop in KG's performance soon.
Tue Jun 19, 2007 10:14 am
^ maes, good observation, but you gotta take into consideration of KG's age when he first entered the league.
Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:15 am
thats true cyanide, but minny will want to trade him while his stock is up, load up on picks and young projects.
