Why are the mavs throwing romo a retirement party? Will the cowboys do the same for Dirk?

Good point, possibly? Dirk is quite the legend in Dallas.

It's probably safe to say there's mutual respect and admiration there, but if nothing else, it's a gimmick that draws interest and can probably sell some extra merch. I guess it's also something positive, a celebration in a season where the Mavericks haven't had much to celebrate themselves. A feel-good moment to end a disappointing season on a happier note.

I think Cuban actually tried to get Romo eligible to get in the game. I know they joked during the game about putting him in (fake bringing him to the scorers table), but before the game I think he ran it by Adam Silver, who didn't think it was a good idea.
Would have been interesting to see him out there for a minute, but I think it would have made the NBA look like kind of a circus.

I read that too. It definitely would've been a stunt, but given that the season is winding down, and it's been a tough year for the Mavericks, I don't think it would've been too crass to put him in for a minute or something, if they'd been able. I mean, I'm not saying it's an awesome idea that should be done frequently, but it wouldn't herald the end of the league's credibility or anything, either.

Just would have been funny to see a Tony Romo Basketball Reference page, with one game played under "DAL".
Ha.

Another entry for the
Cups of Coffee list. Right there with the great Tyson Wheeler!

I wonder if anybody on that list was a Tony Romo-esque situation?
Thu Apr 13, 2017 2:16 am
Actually, I didn't realize Tyson Wheeler was that type of situation.
Apparently, he is also the NBA's all time leader in 3P %, at a whopping 1,000%.
What a legend.

I think pretty much everyone on that list is someone who was drafted, or otherwise actively pursued an NBA career at one point.
