Lakers fire Mitch Kupchak, and name Magic Johnson President of Basketball Operations. Jim Buss also relieved of his duties as GM.

For the Lakers' sake, I hope he evaluates players and Draft prospects better than he analyses basketball games.

Finally. This is what conservatives felt like when Trump was elected lol

Do you think Magic is the person to make all the right moves for the Lakers? He's a successful businessman, and obviously one of the all-time greats of the game, but that doesn't always translate to success in an NBA front office.

Woj reports...
Lakers are finalizing a multi-year agreement with agent Rob Pelinka as general manager, league sources tell @TheVertical. He'll start soon.

As a Lakers fan the past few years, it's been tough to watch many of the games always knowing that we were the contenders just a few years back. I see this is as something that really is good to know that the franchise has missed already 3 (to be 4) straight playoffs and something needs to be changed.

Not a big fan of the Magic appointment. Rob Pelinka being named Gm though might help pull in some big names? I hope Jerry West comes back even in an advisory role.

Pelinka will obviously be knowledgeable when it comes to the CBA, and experienced at negotiations. Whether he can put together a team is yet to be seen.

Laker fans need to calm down. As we've seen, great player/coach doesn't mean great executive (see Phil Jackson). Magic is a novice at this - he needs to surround himself with top-flight people (especially a capologist) and stay out of the way.

MJ, Bird, Unseld and Baylor all sucked in their respective front office roles, about the only exception is Jerry West. Dumars a distant second? except for that championship in '05, the Pistons has also sucked.

Dumars had a solid run, with the Pistons going to the Eastern Conference Finals several years in a row, as well as two NBA Finals and the championship in 2004. Bird hasn't been too bad, either.

I wouldn't say that I'm happy it's Magic taking over, but more importantly Jim buss is gone

How could you forget the bang-up job Isiah did in NY?

Speaking of which:
Jeanie Buss says she probably waited too long to fire her brother JimNext family get-together is going to be a bit awkward.

Lakers fans
So were these hiring just done in house? Seems a little peculiar how this went down
Fri Feb 24, 2017 7:32 am
Yeah didn't seem like there was much of an interview process, but I guess it's good that they didn't waste anyone's time
Sat Feb 25, 2017 1:45 am
fair enough. 3 out of the 4 nba's most profitable franchises are now run by former players... lakers, knicks, bulls. i wonder who creeps back into respectability first
