RIP Nate Thurmond

Warriors legend, Hall of Famer Nate Thurmond dies

Hall of Famer Nate Thurmond, a tenacious force on the court as a seven-time All-Star in the 1960s and '70s in contrast to his personality as a gentle giant who would become a community ambassador for the Warriors and a restaurant owner in San Francisco, died Saturday after a battle with leukemia, the team announced. He was 74.

He was before my time, but his name would always come up when I was learning about the players who came before the ones I grew up watching. A fine big man in his era, and if nothing else, he'll always be remembered for tallying the first quadruple-double in NBA history. RIP.

Really? I mean, I'm not surprised that people posted boorish comments on social media, that's usually par for the course. However, it's usually motivated by a divisive/hot button issue, rather than the passing of an athlete.

Helluva defender and rebounder. Kareem always said Nate was one of the toughest cats he played against. Late in his career he played for the Cavs with Austin Carr, Jim Chones and Bingo Smith.

Yikes. I completely agree; neither the time nor the place, and not at all dignified.
