Tom Thibodeau Named Head Coach and President of the Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves brought an end to the speculation Wednesday night, announcing that Tom Thibodeau is now their head coach and team president.

Minny also hired Scott Layden away from the San Antonio Spurs as their new general manager.

Thibodeau, 58, has a .647 winning percentage, good for seventh among NBA coaches in League history.

Great move by the Timberwolves.

Scott Layden, same GM who fucked up the Knicks before Isiah? Ha Wolves are still fucked getting new players then.

Still expect Thibs to lead the Wolves to 50 wins despite Layden and the rest of the roster being garbage similar to what Thibs did to those garbage Bulls team he had.

I'd like to say iam happy for Twolves fans but I'd be lying.

I really wanted Thibs in NY but Phil is making it pretty clear that he's going to bring back Rambis.

I am so excited for T'wolves' future. They might be my favourite Western team for a while. I always had a man crush on Thibs the moment he did his magic with the Bulls.

Nice! Perhaps it's time to start winning, finally. I can't recall last time when they were in the playoffs. Back when Cassell was there?

And Sprewell, too.

The last time they were in the Playoffs, they were in the Conference Finals. It was a quick fall from grace, though they were actually above .500 the following season. Looking into those numbers, I just saw that they've equalled the second longest Playoff drought in league history, tied with the Warriors (1995-2006) and behind the Clippers (1977-1991).

And of course your beloved Ricky Rubio is running their offense!

I've been watching a lot of TWolves games the past years ever since they drafted Dieng (I so want him to be drafted by the Bulls back then). If the Bulls is my Carmela, the TWolves is the whore I'm sleeping with whenever I'm not at casa Soprano. I hope Thibs realize that the Wolves don't need Pekovic anymore, deal him and put Dieng upfront with Towns. There are plenty of young legs on that team so there's no worries if Thibs decide to run his usual minutes distribution. Speaking of Rubio, I reckon he will be dealt since Thibs loves his PG to be one of the main guys and not just a facilitator on offense. Perhaps same can be said for Muhammad since he can't play D...

can't have everything i suppose lol

took Mitchell most of the season to figure out Dieng and Towns could fit... let the team shoot 3pters (lol). we would criticize Thibs with some of his offensive sets in his bulls days. the twolves makeup is almost a complete opposite. can thibs adapt? was it the case of maximizing of what he had to work at (jab at hoiberg) or is thibs just not an offensive innovator?

you should start a twolves thread. i wont tell

Rubio traded?! Ha I would lead the band wagon. Honestly his defense and facilitating is a major boost for the team.

Yeah I'd be surprised if Rubio was sent packing, Thibs loves his D and Ricky is one of the biggest pests defending the pg position.

Muhammad on the other hand I think they might see what they can get for him since he had a good season scoring wise.

'bazz reminds me of a tweener forward version of jamal crawford. why not keep him around and see if Thibs can work his defensive magic

As I've mentioned before in the Bulls thread, it will be for the better for Thibs to have an offense expert by his side. His stubbornness on sticking with the same rotation, not giving enough minutes to/experimenting with the rookies and weird substitutions are my main gripes with him.

you should start a twolves thread. i wont tell

Nah, just revive the old one or try asking Kevin or bail out Corymach. IIRC, I posted a Wolves related thread back then when they re-signed Pekovic and that's all I can have for you...

I hope Thibs sees him that way since I love seeing him run the offense but my familiarity with Thibs somewhat tells me that he would rather have somebody like Dennis Schroder than him on his offense since the Wolves' wings and bigs are agile enough to cover every places. Lavine's improvement is an obvious factor also and Rubio is pretty injury prone nowadays.

Playing with the trade machine earlier and came up with this...
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=hd4cjxs

Jimmy Buckets loves Thibs and he obviously have problems with Hoiberg, the Sixers will have Embiid next season so you can put Noel in there also instead of Okafor and they will finally have their PG in Rubio and Mirotic as a second unit scorer. Maybe add some draft picks, trade exceptions or whatever to those you reckon were not given enough and off you go...

What an outrageous deal... I would like to see happen for the Bulls

Can you imagine the conversation between Thibs and Forman?
Thibs- "remember me, asshole?"
Forman- "uh I'll have my assistant contact you."
