Mark Cuban says move the 3 pt line back

Sun Feb 28, 2016 10:55 am

For a select few and guys named Curry, it's almost become too easy? What would happen if we moved it back to 25 ft? should they change it because of one guy? remember they widened the Key for Wilt

They widened the lane for George Mikan, too. They also implemented the five second back to the basket rule mostly for Mark Jackson and Charles Barkley.

Should rules be changed because of a couple of players? It seems a lot of people aren't in favour of changing the rules regarding Hack-a-Whoever since it only really affects a few notoriously poor free throw shooters, so with that in mind, one might be inclined to answer no. However, citing the above examples of Wilt, Mikan, Jackson, and Barkley, there is obviously a precedent for doing so.

I don't think they should move the line back, though. Frankly, I don't think that would bother Curry much at all. In fact, it'd probably put him and the Warriors at more of an advantage, since he can stroke it from there with relative ease, whereas not all three-point shooters can. He'll keep making threes, but other players around the league might drop off a bit.

If there is any kind of change, perhaps they could allow a bit more contact on the perimeter, bringing back some of the physical on-ball defense we used to see. Again, I'd suggest that Curry will still do pretty well regardless, but if there are going to be any changes, that's what I'd prefer.

I could honestly see this happening.... but it wouldn't make a difference because he's able to shoot from half court with consistency :P

Curry can shoot from anywhere. I can't see why this will be a handicap for him as to the rest of the league.

Considering the shot he just hit to beat the Thunder...yeah, moving it back isn't going to do a damn thing.

12 three-pointers also. Tying Kobe and Donyell Marshall. Can see him surpassing them anytime soon. Also a new record for three pointers made in a season. This dude is just unreal.

Broke his own record before March. I'm going to disagree with the people saying he's close to becoming the greatest player of all-time - a brilliant season does not outrank over a decade of brilliance that the upper echelon of NBA greats have to their name, so that's really jumping the gun - but at this point, he has to be the best shooter of all-time.

Is Curry even human?

Well, he did come up limping after he rolled his ankle, so probably. Maybe.

He's quite simply embarrassing the rest of the league. It's absolutely amazing watching him play right now. This is legendary stuff.

Yeah moving it back would give him more of an advantage... if they add 4 pointers he would be the best player in NBA history. And Antoine Walker would come out of retirement.

How, exactly? I mean, it wouldn't really be another dimension to his offensive game, just more points because they've added a line that grants an extra point. He also still wouldn't be an exceptional two-way player. It would just give him a way to boost his scoring in a way that other players in the past didn't have.

The 3 point line has being moved before so don't see why they couldn't do it again as some players are shooting 3's like free throws nowadays!

Iam more in favour of this than changing the hack a... rule.

Ha I was over exaggerating a bit but he'd be pretty unstoppable, scoring-wise. You'd have to do like a 3/4 court press with his defender

The shit he's doing is amazing. I didn't even in my wildest thoughts imagine him and his glass ankles at the time could do the shit he's doing. Amazing.

Yeah it's unfortunate that his career got off to a rocky start due to his love for ankle top shoes

Bold prediction time about glass feet and 3 point shooting.... Joel Embiid ... next Steph Curry lol

It is funny to think there were questions about him ever being a dependable player because of one injury-plagued season. People do love to predict flops and failure, though.

Re: Mark Cuban says move the 3 pt line back

I don't know why people would want to move the 3PT line further back. Only Curry would benefit from it and everyone in the league would suffer, making the Warriors more OP than before... (assuming that they're still not too OP)

Re: Mark Cuban says move the 3 pt line back

Mon Feb 29, 2016 8:18 am

Exactly. No four point line, no moving the three-point line back. If anything, allow some of the physicality on the perimeter that we used to see. Of course, that'll give Curry a good shot at Jamal Crawford's four point play record.

NBA should definitely do something to curb the 3 point attempts. I'm definitely less interested in watching a 3pt shooting contest, which is what the NBA has become. Per the pundits, every team not winning "needs to" play with more pace, have more shooters, more spacing. It seems the only prescription for winning in today's NBA is more and more shooting. Solid post players who can't shoot are just liabilities now, clog the lane, etc. Midrange is dying, also considered inffective. I'd rather see a defensive contest, and a little more balance between post play and 3 pt shooting.

Re: Mark Cuban says move the 3 pt line back

I'm with you. I can appreciate great three-point shooting, but I also feel the NBA has done too much to try and manufacture more offense. The All-Star game - while an exhibition that's meant to be a bit of fun - has almost completely lost its competitiveness and appeal by essentially becoming an impromptu three-point contest. Even in regular games, you're seeing some of that. You can't blame a team like the Warriors for taking advantage of what works, but I do miss seeing low post artistry, midrange magic, and different styles of play. Watching teams stand around and pot three-pointers - while impressive in its own right - is something I find a little boring. Personal preference, of course, but that's mine.

Re: Mark Cuban says move the 3 pt line back

The problem is there aren't many skilled post players who are bigs. The Hakeem Rockets accidentally fell into pace-and-space WITH a dominant post player with their titles. The most skilled big post player in the game is surrounded by an organization more dysfunctional than he is.

I'd rather see teams execute well, smartly, unselfishly, and fun than return to the dark ages when every coach in the league tried to see just how much he could strangle the game into submission before Adelman and Popovich saved the league from the horrors of whatever The Czar was doing and the Francis vs. Marbury face-offs.

I see no reason for the NBA to curb three point attempts just because for 80% of the history of the shot teams ignored its spacing value and Rick Barry when he told them HOW IT WAS WORTH AN EXTRA POINT.

Absolutely, the game has evolved. And I certainly wouldn't want to see it go too far the other way, like Fratello's Cavs teams.
