Why take a two, when you can take a three?

No, no, this isn't more old man of 31 complaining about the 2016 All-Star game. But here's someone who'd probably feel right at home in a game where apparently the new goal is to put up as many threes as possible.

Meet Oakland's Max Hooper, who only shoots 3s

Oakland senior guard Max Hooper has taken 206 shots this season, and 206 of them have been 3-pointers.

"I believe I'm the best shooter in the country," Hooper said.

That's right, Hooper is the Golden Grizzlies' fourth-leading scorer at 11.1 points per game, but after 27 games, he hasn't attempted a shot inside the arc.

"I'm shocked that I haven't taken a 2, that I haven't stepped on the line or had an open layup, but it's just playing my game," Hooper said. "My job on this team is to take a lot of 3s and make a lot of 3s. I don't want it to be recognized as a novelty act. I want to be recognized because I'm shooting one of the highest percentages in the country."

Hooper makes 45.6 percent of his long balls, the 47th-best mark among Division I players. His 94 successful 3s rank in the top 10.

I guess threes are in vogue these days. More than half of Stephen Curry's field goal attempts come from downtown. Even going back a few years, By the end of his career, three-pointers were close to being the only shots that Jason Kidd took, as he rarely looked to shoot inside the arc. But to have 100% of your attempts come from three-point range? That's certainly extreme. As he says, it's unusual that he hasn't at least stepped on the line once or twice, or felt compelled to take advantage of an open lane for a layup.

having a reliable 3 pt shooter also pulls away defender in the paint. but then again, this sudden interest to overshoot the 3 probably stems from the recent success of the GSW. Curry and Thompson are certainly are top 3 point shooters, what some people fail to see is the incredible team chemistry the GSW has.
