That's not true. They only have to go through a waiting period.

Roy is easily eligible to return to the NBA as it's been well more than a year, which was the longest period imposed on a player. (Jason Williams and that was in part because he was trying to change teams. Roy was waived by the Wolves so that'd be less of a problem.)

He made a comeback attempt and it failed, his knees couldn't take it so it's not like they have gotten any better since theses passed 3 years so no, no team would hire him as a player in the nba again.

Former teammate says he still has game,he plays some very competitive games during the summer vs actual NBA players. It's just that after a maximum of those 10 exhibition games, he feels like he lost his legs. A 82 games season is unreachable for him.

Yeah, from all accounts it sounds like his knees just can't hold up any more, which is very unfortunate. I'd be surprised if he attempts another comeback at this point. I guess you never say never, but it feels like the safer bet.

I am not in the best shape but I might be able to beat Roy in 1 on 1 full court basketball imo.

Me and Roy are about the same age and iam sure he can still play as talent and basketball IQ never really fades, I played in a competitive league game myself last night for the first time in a about a year and shocked a few people too that I can still hold my own but like Roy it comes with a price as I can hardly move my body this morning knees ache so much too and I never had any serious passed injuries either.

The difference between Roy and other players who have had serious injuries is that Roy's condition is chronic. Players coming off serious injuries may lose a step and not be quite the same afterwards, but with surgery and rehabilitation, they've been able to heal to a point where they can still play...some better than others. Roy's knees continued to degenerate through his all-too-brief career, to the point where he has no cartilage between the bones in both of them. He underwent the same procedure that Kobe Bryant did and that was enough of a glimmer of hope to allow him to attempt a comeback with the Timberwolves, but ultimately, the condition wasn't (and isn't) going to get better or stabilise, it would only get progressively worse. So the comparison to other players is apples and oranges, in that respect.

People shouldn't be expecting Roy to play basketball at any level. Didn't the docs say it's bone to bone situation with Roy? That's insane. Wheelchair is guaranteed if he even tries.

Larry Sanders probably has better chance if decides to comeback at all.

The ex Pacer Bender tried to play a few years back with the knicks with no knee cartridge which it admitted to being in so much pain after games that he did more damage which he will pay for later in life

For professional athletes, joint problem comes faster and worse as they age. It's just the cost of abusing your body much more than regular folks. People smarten up and ride eliptical and bikes more and less jogging on hard surface.

Some of guys I know that are in 40s and played sports for whole life told me they feel their joint hurting on rainy days and on weather change.

In Roy's case, his knees had been bothering him since college. A tough break for a very talented player.

Didn't he also have 7 or 8 surgeries done on his knees prior to calling it quits? Sounded like his body just wasn't built to last long. I have a feeling his knees probably feel like 60 yo old with no cartilage.

Can't remember the number off-hand, but he did have a series of injuries and surgeries, on top of his degenerative knee condition.

Considering it'll be a shorter season, and perhaps less physically demanding with the players all being older and retired from the NBA, it's probably more his speed. Still seems a bit risky, given the condition of his knees, but I guess that's his call at the end of the day.
