Brett Brown agrees to two-year extension

Mon Dec 14, 2015 2:37 pm

Sources: 76ers coach Brett Brown agrees to two-year extension

Negotiations on the extension had started before the front-office shakeup that elevated chairman Jerry Colangelo over president and general manager Sam Hinkie on Monday.

Brown has been the face of the franchise through the gutting of the roster, often cobbling together lineups that consist of non-NBA-level talent. He has been active meeting with season ticket-holders and sponsors, trying to infuse his enthusiasm into that of selling the franchise's future.

Brown, a longtime San Antonio Spurs assistant, was under contract through the 2016-17 season.

The Sixers' move to extend Brown's contract was made well before Colangelo became involved in the franchise, league sources said. Ownership and senior management were aligned on committing long term to Brown.

For toughing it out and doing what he can in the midst of The Process, I'd say he deserves it. He deserves a shot at coaching a 76ers team that's on the way up, rather than just being the guy they brought in to be on the sidelines in the early stages of a long and painful rebuilding process.

Indeed. Brown deserves this extension. This also means the management acknowledges current woes are their due.

Kinda funny record breaking losing streak coach had his job safe and guaranteed from the beginning while coaches like McHale and Thib had their backs against the wall entire time and eventually being blamed upon.
