"The same Allan Houston who missed 62 games and averaged 11 points last year was better than Marbury, who played every game and posted 21 points and eight assists a night?"
'If you can't do that, if that's not important enough to you, it's not on me. It's not on me.'
It's not on me. It's on Marbury, the guy who leads the team in minutes, scoring, assists and steals -- one of two players in NBA history to average 20 points and eight assists for his career. (Oscar Robertson is the other.)"
its about time someone other than me stuck up for marbury. if marbury wasnt putting up numbers it would be a different story, but he is. and for those who say marbury is a selfish player and doesnt make his teammates better? how is 8asts for your career not make ur team better? marbury is averaging 10 shots a game this season, and he's selfish? well if thats what you call selfish then what the hell do you do with 26-shots-a-game-kobe??
and its finally great to hear someone of stature to join me in sticking up for marbury:
" 'Marbury wants to win. He came up to me on the plane and pointed to my [1973 championship] ring and said, 'I want what you have.' Besides, the guy has skills; he can get to the basket against anyone.' "
I seem to recollect from a post in an earlier thread (Marbury: I'll play my way) that I WAS THE ONE who said marbury just wants to win and has the talent to be the best pg in the league. ok well Frazier didnt so far as to say that marbury could become the best point guard but he still did vaguely acknowledge his potential.
"To be sure, Marbury is an easy target. His detractors rattle off his failures in Minnesota, Phoenix and New Jersey as readily as they bring up Brown's record of improving his teams. "
thats probably one of the best points in the whole article. probably the biggest thing people have against marbury is that he hasnt won anywhere. and now that he's losing in new york, its still his fault even with the hall-of-fame-i've-won-everywhere-i've-coached larry brown.
yes i'll admit the situation in new york isnt even at the very least conducive for marbury to get his ring, but i still strongly believe that if some changes happen (getting rid of marbury isnt one of them of course!) i think that the knicks can get much better. besides, lets say if marbury gets traded and starts winning somewhere else. well, the marbury critics might shut up, but even that satisfaction isnt enough to make marbury as happy as he would be if he won in new york. but apparently no one cares about loyalty in this league anymore...
