Key player since Jackson left has always been the point guard position, regardless of who was filling that role. That's why management tried landing Chris Paul, went after Sessions & by sheer luck just got Steve Nash.

Gasol I think will be fine, his passing is going to be fun to watch, I think he'll move a bit more to the post now that he doesn't have to be playmaker on the perimeter. Kobe decides partly for the team who the head coach is? Where do you get this stuff from? He wasn't even consulted when Brown was hired, he was pretty much lobbying for Brian Shaw to take over the coaching duties. So again, where do you get this stuff from?

Everything will just fade away? Why? Kobe has two years left on his contract, I think he'll retire after that. Gasol will be an expiring contract as well. Then you've got Artest who has a player option and will probably accept it given his sorry state, but the Lakers still have the ability to amnesty him. Blake, Duhon & Hill all expire the same year. Now you've got the best center in the league (if he resigns) leading a very, very storied franchise. So really, "fade away, you know what i mean   " is just you doing what you do best, spewing bullshit.

Heck according to you, Howard is supposedly supposed to have been a Net eons ago.

First he wanted the team to himself in a basketball meca city, until the Nets fucked it up. Then the Lakers. Top 2 biggest cities for any sports. His only 2 choices being NYK and LAL, makes me think money/fame was the biggest factor in his decision. I sorta stopped liking this kid though he probably made a good choice to join the Lakers if he was chasing the ring right now. Will be very hard for me to root for Nash.

why would gasol go into the post more? it would just be easier for defenses to cover both Howard and Gasol if they are both in the paint. historically Gasol's numbers went down, specifically effeciency wise, when he played with another post player.

and what about your sources? all the links you post are just retreads ;)

Because that's where he's more effective, he's a better post player than he is a perimeter player, which is basically what he played last season. Both of them would demand more than a single person to cover them in the post & with Gasol's passing he could either set Howard up or take his own shot. Historically? He's only played with Bynum as a post player & he's had to play the perimeter since Bynum has become relevant on offense.

Retreads? Uh..yeah.

If you meant retweets, I think 2 out of the 5 things I've posted in regards to the off season have been retweets from Woj, and that too...it's been for deals that have actually happened. But like I said...yeah.

Good thing with the Princeton offense Lakers are going to run next season is, Gasol can use his passing abilities in the post to be effective. As Jackal said, he will not have to drift to the perimeter as often as in former years.

Gasols strength has been his ability to face up on centers. Now he's forced to almost exclusively go against opposing pf's... Players that are quick enough to stay in front of him. Take that face up game away and you have that well earned reputation of being a pussy in the paint. An aging, (still stinky) pussy no less. We've seen this before- when Garnett wasn't a center- gasol became the goat of the finals. Or in last years playoffs- ibaka took him out of his game.

Its basketball 101. You put 2 post guys near the basket- its easier to defend them. Yeah it's great that gasol can pass like magic Johnson. The lack of spacing makes it easier for defenses to rotate.

kobe and mike brown doesn't have that chemistry yet and i think only phil can control him. there were many scenarios where kobe decides the plays on crucial moments. so if this mega team is underachieving, eventually mike possibly will be fired, and basically kobe adds to that decision making process. yep, thats right, he want's b.shaw. what i mean about "decides partly for the team" is he will always be involved or informed, rather, before the decisions. i mean, he's kobe right? it would be an insult to him if not.

and about that "everything will just fade away", after kobe got his 6th ring.. so he will left nash(40's) and dwight w/ who? let's hope jordan hill will be the next pau gasol and morris is the next kobe?

according to me? or do you want me to post those articles in w/c dwight himself, his agent, and rob hennigan said that..or your just on semi-coma when those news were everywhere? still glad you've made it..

and about pau, he's never achieve his full potential when playing w/ another post player as well as w/ dwight..if your judging their tandem just because of pau's passing skills(ok, now they've got the nxt magic johnson? :applaud: ), and justifying it like that would simply make you stupid..again, as a hardworker in dwight, pau tends to be lazy(pau gasoft would continue, if your a laker avid fan, you'll understand this), he might average double-double w/ bynum but i think it would drop now w/ dwight..this makes jamison more effective playing w/ dwight.. i expect some "drama" still, about comparisons on bynum(more offensively gifted) vs howard as the season goes on :cheeky: :cheeky: ..

Kobe matured a bit over the years from total uncoachable to stubborn but mostly coachable. Mike Brown seems to get along with him an Metta pretty well. He isn't the great manipulator, but he seems ok, dealing with the egos.
When Kobe retires, his contract will come off the books, which means, Lakers will be able (as they were over decades) to restock the roster with good players. Lakers might have a tough year or two, but will be pretty well again.
How Mike Brown plans to use Gasol, I don't know now. It will take some time to get Howard integrated to the team, when he's finally healthy, but I'm sure he'll do fine. Gasol's numbers may drop a bit, but how that might influence the Lakers in general has to be seen.

"It's been like home for me"...which is obviously why he was pushing for a trade to Brooklyn. Still, what else is he supposed to say, I guess.

Once again, at least the matter is over and done with. It would've been nice if he'd handled the situation with more grace and professionalism, but so be it. As Woj put it, it's now time for him to leave the clown act behind and focus on the business at hand.

It's the tax. Lakers will have to pay 30 mio next July for being about 30 mio over the limit. The following season, those 30 mio would equal about 85 mio on taxes... So the system does not really work by now.

Yeah. There probably isn't too many right things he can say at this moment to please everybody, except for of course the Lakers fans. But certainly most of us aren't too pleased to see him acting and smiling like as if nothing ever happened and everybody still loves him. At least at the moment, there seems to be huge support for him. Maybe he'll be just fine like Chris Paul and Carmelo.

yeah, kobe matured but it is w/ the great phil only.. and how many years did that take? also add the veteran shaq, d.fish that helped him in that aspect also. now he has his nemesis for almost a decade and an immature big, it's not going to be that easy i think.. remember those times when kobe was benched in the fourth where in fact they can still get into it? mike's used to coach lebron before, but he's not kobe. in order for mike to be effective, he has to balance his role while earning respect to his players, in the right ways.

When your team has Dwight, Nash, Gasol, and couple other great players(plus good role players), perhaps anything with live pulse beat would look great coaching the team. I mean this team is no joke whether or not for Brown. I just can't see failing that hard just because of coaching alone, maybe one of many factors if the team really grossly fail.

If Mike Brown manages to use his stars less than he did before (see Gregg Popovich) and he works the miracle of giving the players enough touches, the only thing he can do wrong is not winning a championship. ;)

Bynum and J-Rich were officially introduced as Sixers players today. Bynum said he's "leaning towards making Philadelphia his home". Most people "with knowledge of the situation" and Lakers fans alike expected him to be willing to re-sign with Philly simply because apparently all he cares about is money.

He also said he's looking forward to playing with Spencer Hawes. I guess it's pretty safe to assume he's never seen Big Spence play. And he compared Hawes to Pau Gasol. What a funny guy, I like him already.

Nash - Assists
Kobe - Points
Gasol - Rebounds
Howard - Blocks
Metta World Peace - Elbows

That one really cracked me up :P

It will work out, but not for next season. There's a very nice article on espn.com, that explains pretty well, that it will be harder to form super teams in the future. But for next season it's still the old $1 for $1 over the tax line. This will have an end when 2013-14 season is starting, and even more with the 2014-15 season when the punitive repeater tax for perennial high-spenders kicks in.
Still teams like Lakers or Knicks will have more money to spend as OKC or the Bobcats, but that translates not necessarily into success...
