Re: Aussie Basketball Discussion

Count me in as another Aussie who isn't that fond of cricket. I don't mind a bit of a game in the backyard or whatever, but I don't much care for it as a spectator sport. In particular, I'm not a fan of playing for five days, outscoring the other team, but ending with a draw because you didn't get everyone out. I guess that's how the game is played, but it seems like a huge waste of time to me.

As for AFL, I can appreciate the skill and athleticism involved but when it comes down to it, I'm from league country. And even then I'm not really a fan of the game or the way a fair few NRL players conduct themselves.

I guess at the end of the day it's a waste of time to get ruffled by or argue with the troll logic employed against basketball here in Australia. I've yet to hear a critique of the sport from other Aussies that wasn't misguided, ignorant or highly subjective to the point of being irrelevant, illogical and redundant. I still think if we did better internationally, basketball would be more respected. That's a shame, but it doesn't stop those of us who are passionate about it.

Anyway...

Good to hear that the insurance issues are sorted. If Bogut does end up signing with the Kings, like I said before I'd probably at least consider trying to make it to a game.

The Blaze are on TV quite a bit early in the season. May or may not mean anything.

Bogut to the Kings to be announced Tuesday.

As expected. Great for the league though (Y)

Kind of disappointing that he's not going to the Blaze, since they're playing in Brisbane in a few weeks, but yeah, it's still good for the league.

I was looking for tickets for the Blaze Brisbane games and on ticketek it's under "Basketball Awesomeness"... awesome

Sydney's really the best spot for him as far as benefit to the league goes. Tigers are apparently contemplating moving Friday's game to Hisense, and One are apparently contemplating airing the game at 9.30. Fair chance neither of those things happens, though.

Latest news is that the insurance still isn't sorted, and it's unlikely he'll be on a team by this weekend.

It seems unlikely with the current state of the NBA's CBA negotiations, but if they were actually to work things out and get an agreement in place to start the season on time, the Bogut to NBL saga truly will be a shaggy dog story. At least he's (supposedly) decided on a team though, it stands to reason the issues with insurance wouldn't be solved so easily.

Insurance was sorted as far as FIBA was concerned, Bogut was unhappy with it. Still nothing resolved, by the look of it, which likely means nothing until at least tomorrow. Blaze are officially out of the running.

This really needed to happen a month or so ago. Even if he does sign with Sydney, you've got basically no time to promote Bogut-Mills, no chance of moving it to a bigger building, and One isn't going to move the game to an earlier slot on such short notice.

One may or may not carry NZ home games. A Boti Nagy article claimed they were airing here live, but was then edited to remove the word 'live', which indicates that they are likely to run here, but there's been no official indication that they will.

Agreed. Perhaps he held more optimism for the CBA negotiations, with cancellations yet to be made at the time.

FIBA didn't get their act together until this week, so Bogut couldn't have signed regardless.

One hopes he plays in the Sydney-Melbourne game on November 4. 10,000-seat stadium, plenty of time to build to it, and it's on TV.

This is, of course, assuming he's signing with the Kings.

I'm wondering if his elbow is the sticking point behind why it hasn't been done yet. I would imagine an underwriter would cover any career ending injuries with the exception of pre-existing conditions (i.e. right elbow). That would obviously be a deal breaker for Bogie.

Fair point. It was apparently still bothering him throughout last season, no surprise as that was a fairly gruesome injury.

I think his career will be done within a year or two of his big contract being up. I think that injury has taken a good 3 or 4 years off his career.

Perhaps. There's always the possibility he'll be traded to or sign with Phoenix and be rejuvenated.

I got an email from the NBL about the dream team comp. I was kinda interested in what kind of team I could make, so I signed up. If anyone else is interested:

http://dreamteam.nbl.com.au

League Code: 848996

Thinking I was typing in my own league password, I actually named the league "AMMO"

Sweet, I joined up. I don't do many of these (only other one is EPL), but it'll help me keep up-to-date with league.

That's what I was hoping too. I'm also interested in seeing whether Pat Mills' stock will plummit once he starts playing :P

I think it might plummet initially but should pick up after that.

Unfortunately my team won't be led by the great Kirk Penney since he signed with a team in the Spanish ACB (Y)

Ah cool, I was wondering why I couldn't find him. Does that mean more minutes for the Boomer MVP BJ Anthony?

Adelaide give Bogut a deadline. Which is silly, given that he's already made his decision and it's FIBA that's the holdup here.

I've found a spot for Benny Anthony on my bench  I figure he'll be the go-to-guy now

And now it's Bogut's management threatening to take their ball and go home. Not good.

Re: Aussie Basketball Discussion

1. Angry that One will not show season opener live.
2. I reckon Patty Mills will average around 18 ppg, 6 apg this season but his value will come from off the ball/intangibles... will be interesting to see if he can run the show for the Tigers.
3. I hope Bogut plays but I don't think it will be this week.
