He did it himself. He was on ESPN and said he wanted his nickname to be the Australian Assassin. Said he considers himself Australian and wants to play for the Boomers.

Last I heard he wasn't even an NBL player.

Mike Brown, and now this guy? What the fuck?

Apparently he was pretty good at some Eurocamp thing. I'd imagine that's the only reason he was picked, he's 25 years old lol

Giving away Brad Miller, No. 23, and a future first round pick doesn't seem like much, depending on how high that pick is. I've read Motiejunas' ceiling is Pau Gasol/Dirk, but that he's at a lower level than those two when they arrived to the NBA.

How many power forwards do the Rockets have now? Motiejunas is a good get, but I see his ceiling as closer to Bargnani's. He slid to 20 for a reason.

Late, hell, many second round picks aren't anything more than stashing people in Europe on the hopes they develop at some point and you hold their rights. Why draft Americans when you can stock up on European talent, then invite all the undrafted Americans to camp?

Same concept as trading out of the first round (or drafting Euro's) in favor of trying to draft high in the second round to pick off those who slipped through the cracks.

The Lakers, for example, already have ten players under contract. Brown might be out, Caracter might stick around, Morris and Goudelock will be invited to camp along with a number of other undrafted and unsigned players, one of the last three probably will make the roster (I assume Goudelock), and they'll sign some random but most importantly "proven" veterans or camp surprise to hang around and stash on the reserve list. Meanwhile if any of these Euros eventually pan out, well, they get first dibs.

And then there's the value in seeing Adam Silver and Stuart Scott try to pronounce their names. While ESPN scrambles to find something like grainy youtube videos and Jay Bilas and everyone has to stretch until the next pick. While putting up fun graphics like "LAST SEASON: 0.7 PPG AND 0.3 RPG" about them.

Really, in the end, the latter is the reason you do it.

Idk what the Raptors were doing in the draft, I really don't. Hopefully they prove me wrong.

Colangelo screwed up again, his fetish for euro players is what worries me. All he needed to do was look at the last pg prospects that played for calipari - rose, Evans and wall and draft knight

Rockets fans, just imagine you're getting a Euro version of Derrick Coleman (best case) or Eddy Curry (worst case). See, it's all good.

Doubt it. This is the same guy who got dropped as the 11th man on the Perth Wildcats roster last season.

Yep, he stinks. He did get picked up by the Blaze but only played spot minutes. The game I was at the Blaze actually played a 4 guard, 1 forward lineup after their big fouled out & the coach wisely refused to put him in the game. He couldn't catch the ball, if you sneezed on him you'd break his legs & I believe one of his jump shots went over the top of the backboard

Looks like the Heat steal one more time from Cleveland in Norris Cole.

The Heat now have Rajon Rondo of their own, only with better shooting according to that fella.

People say he's definitely not a starter material. Hope he'll be a solid player someday though.

Well, Cavs took Irving. Thompson was bit of a surprise, but he was on the back of my head. Credit, these two players wont change the picture so much, but its a start.

Bobcats fans(z02 comes from the back of my mind) should be happy. Both Walker and Bismack are pretty solid players.

Another smoove move by the Spurs, Kawhi will solve some-kind of problems.

Scola, Patterson, Jordan Hill above him in the lineup, and Chuck Hayes if he doesn't have to play the 5. If the Rockets play him at the 5 like the Raptors did with Bargs, that's probably the only way he cracks the rotation. I'm not too convinced about Motiejunas yet, I'll just have to wait and see how he does.

Wow. If Motiejunas goes worst case, he'll go from that really skinny frame he has to the grease ball that is Eddy Curry? :shake:

Valenciunas reminds of a horrible movie I saw when Whoopy Goldberg coached an NBA team and they had a center that just said 'Ivan make basket', nothing else. Learn the language ffs.

No no, he'll probably retain his frame. He'll just care for the game like the way Eddy Curry feels about rebounding.
