he's not the typical low post banger that philly needs is what most ppl are saying..... smith can score but he's not that steady 20/10 guy u can depend on every night....

HOLY SHITE!
BRAND IS GOING TO PHILLY!!!
I had to post in this thread, just found out the news.
Screw Josh Smith.

I guess all the early talks about LAC automatically becoming a championship contender were even more useless than they appeared at first

Nobody wants to be a Clipper fan right now.. Thanks to the Lakers, basketball in LA is still alive..

Could that be considered as double posting?
Say their starting five were Dalembert, Evans, Young, Green, and Miller, or something... Then yes, if I had a choice, I'd choose Josh Smith over Elton Brand.
Well, if that's the case...then the obvious pick would be Brand. Why go with Josh Smith if you've got Thad Young there?
the team also doesn't have a wing defender who can guard the opposing team's scorers. Defense will always win games and championships. They don't have the Bowen-type player, or the Raja Bell-type player, or Posey-type player. i believe every team should have that one wing defender who can defend the opposing team's leading scorer.
Wait, what's this guy name...? Could it be...Andre Iguodala? Hell, even Miller could qualify. He might be getting old, but he's very smart. Or even Young. They're all good defenders.
How anyone could not read or understand very basic sentences is beyond me.
It starts with you. This is a thread about the signing of Elton Brand with the Sixers. Who was perfect of all the FA's availables for this team? Elton Brand is your answer. Saying you would choose Josh Smith then flip your argument about ifs doesn't make sense. We're not talking about the rest, we're talking 'bout Sixers.
Fri Jul 11, 2008 5:37 am
Huh, about the J-Smoove to Philly idea. Seems retarted to say the least.
Smith is basically the same as Iguodala except he's a shot blocker instead of a wing defender.
Adding Brand gives Philly one of the strongest frontcourts in the league. Props to Ed Stefanski.

I don't know if philly could have signed brand with korver on the books, but something tells me they're really going to miss his ability to stretch the floor. Zone is going to kill the sixers.

Suck your own dick.
Well, I am used to this Clipper crap, but I just didn't expect them to fuck it up while they still had a good chance. I wonder if Brand felt insulted that BD got more money, or if the Sixers convinced him that he could have his cake and eat it, too.
Fri Jul 11, 2008 7:32 am
Brand mentioned something that the owner was happy either way, if they sign Brand or if they don´t. So Brand didn´t like the attitude what came from the team for their franchise player and looked other options.

Would be amazing if you took the time to read all of the posts in this thread.

What would be amazing is if you could demonstrate in detail how you managed to get your own head so far up your own ass that any other argument seems to get lost in translation on the way to your brain.
Yep, that'd be amazing.

hmmmm brand amare i would much rather amare
brand bosh i would much rather bosh
brand dirk i would much rather dirk
brand boozer i would much rather boozer
bid deal brand is not even that good compared to those guys and others
Fri Jul 11, 2008 11:13 am
You took good flash/raw talent over great fundamentals and a solid defender. Good going.
You'd probably take all those guys over Tim Duncan too.

Why? Brand is a better defender and rebounder than any of those, and similarly averages 20+ PPG.

Let's read all your posts in this thread, shall we?
I'd much rather have Josh Smith then Maggette or Brand, to be honest.
Iguodala is a lot more valuable then Brand, if you ask me.
Based on him being better then both of them.
Not to mention younger and more reliable too.
Well, in the Sixers case, I'd probably have chosen Brand as well. Just because they were lacking a big man, but in general... Josh Smith is the only way to go.
Right...
Kevin Garnett
Tim Duncan
Amare Stoudemire
Dirk Nowitzki
Chris Bosh
There's five off the top of my head.
Benji, I guess I could make a cute chart like that too.
I think I'd include their assists per game, steals per game, blocks per game, and their age.
I think it'd look a little different then.
I wouldn't say so.
I would put Boozer over Elton Brand as well.
There's a lot of people that are better then Brand.
I never said Josh Smith would be better for Philidelphia, actually I said the opposite. Here's what I said: "Well, in the Sixers case, I'd probably have chosen Brand as well. Just because they were lacking a big man, but in general... Josh Smith is the only way to go."
So, yeah. There you have it. All of your posts, and I still feel the same. What does KG, Bosh, etc, have to do with the Sixers? Nothing. They were not available.
Why go with Josh high-flyer, dunker, weak side blocker, inconsistent as fuck, no-shooting Smith? The Sixers already have similar playes like him. He might be younger than Brand, but he's not exactly what the team needed, so it makes your point irrelevant. Do you think that if the Jazz could sign Chris Paul or T-Mac they would sign Paul?

Fri Jul 11, 2008 1:11 pm
I think it's just stupid to think the Sixers would have done a better deal signing Smith when they already have Iguodala and Young, and they had a hole, a big hole at PF. And who cares if he is not between the top five power forwards in the league? Smith is not between the top five forwards/guards in the league.
Now that Philadelphia is a contender, it will be easy to sign good free agents who will feel attracted by playing in a good team.

Wow, are you slow or something? I make mention that you should read the previous posts in the thread, so you read all of my posts. That makes sense to you?
"What does KG, Bosh, etc have to do with the Sixers?"
Nothing. They do have to do with the fact that someone posted a reply stating Elton Brand is one of the top five power forwards in the league. I posted my opinion.
"Why go with Josh high-flyer, dunker, weak side blocker, inconsistent as fuck, no-shooting Smith? The Sixers already have similar playes like him. He might be younger than Brand, but he's not exactly what the team needed, so it makes your point irrelevant."
lol... Is this a joke? You quote all of my posts, one of which clearly states that given what the Sixers currently have, Elton Brand was the obvious choice. Now before you reply saying "liekOmg, than y r u tlking bout Josh Smith?". I said that because someone stated the CLIPPERS will either go for Josh Smith or Emeka Okafor to fill in the loss of Maggette/Brand. I said if I had a choice of Maggette, Brand, or Josh Smith, and I was the Clippers, I'd choose Josh Smith.
"Do you think that if the Jazz could sign Chris Paul or T-Mac they would sign Paul?"
Oh, was this your attempt at being funny? Oh... Good one.

Well you quoted him, which means that you actually answered to him.
On topic, this is an excellent move for Philly, they are really developping well, and they are doing smart moves. If they continue in this direction, no dounbt that they will be a force in a couple of seasons (even though they are already one).

Same here, though I don't have time to confirm (looking at stats) my assumptions.

I think Sixers should start Young over Green. Actually, that kind a lineup would be pretty:
C: Dalembert
PF: Brand
SF: Young
SG: Iggy
PG: Miller
Iguodala can play guard imo, so that would most likely work, and the first sub. would mostly be Iguodala to SF, Young off, Willie to SG.
Anyways, Sixers are doing very smarty moves like shadowgrin said above, so well.. It's good as Sixers are practically in the top 5 favourite of mine.

I know Iggy is a great defender, but he needs to be consistent.. In their first round sreies against the Pistons, he was the one who guarded Rip and Tayshaun.. Rip averaged 19.7 PPG, and shot 47% from the field.. added 5 rebs & 4.5 assists.. Tayshaun averaged 16.3 PPG, shot "66%" from the field and 40% from 3-pt distance.. And he just averaged 13.2 PPG in that series shooting just 33% and 14% from 3 and 4 turnovers a game.. He has to work on his outside game.. He should be one of the top offensive options for the sixers so instead of guarding the best scorer of the opposing team, there would be that wing defender that could guard that top scorer.. This would lessen the chance of foul trouble for Iggy and he could concentrate on his offensive game..
Andre Miller would have a difficulty in guarding bigger SGs. Thaddeus is long and athletic, and has all the potential of being a great wing defender, but he still has to develop, he is not that mobile and defensive-minded enough to guard the likes of kobe, lebron, melo, wade, t-mac, etc...
I love Iggy, He's Athletic, Defensive, he's got his all-around game, I just feel he needs to work on some parts of the game, especially his outside game, especially now that Brand is now with them, he'll be expecting some open shots, as opposing teams will look on doubling Brand in the post..
