This series is far from over yet. lol, it's tied at 2-2. It's not like the Lakers are up 3-1. Jeeze. Tim Duncan won't roll over, and David Robinson wont be a non factor in game 5. This series is going 7, and then the better team menatlly will win. The Lakers won this game from the free throw line. So expect the spurs to get alot of calls in game 5. This has been a great series though :)

Tue May 13, 2003 2:16 am

well for your information, Robnson has been a nothing all series

5.5ppg 5.5rpg .75bpg 19.0mpg

Tue May 13, 2003 7:29 am

indeed this is a great series. as the 'genius' charles barkley says, a series doesn't start until a team losses a home game. pressure on SA to hold the home court.

lakers confidence appears to be high but i think SA will have the advantage of playing in front of its home crowd. in this series, it seems the home team has been getting the benefit of many calls. don't expect to see duncan/robinson getting in early foul trouble.

btw- anyone see that +/- stat when duncan is in the game. something like +15??

FYI laddas, the admiral had a pretty good 'nothing' performance in game 1:
14 pts on 5-10 shooting
11 rebounds
1 block

Tue May 13, 2003 8:54 am

But a game 1 performance means nothing if he does squat in the next 3 and does nothing in game 5.

SA won the first two games at home is because Shaq got so many off. foul, why did he get so many???? Here's why, Tim Duncan just got MVP, the NBA doesn't want Shaq takes over the show.

Now Lakers have the best chance to win the series, they could won w/o Phil Jackson on the bench, they won is because their expierence, their two superstars, and George's courage before game 3. Lakers' triangle offense is perfect, it not only let Shaq gets the ball down low, it also creates opportunity to the rest of team, it either will be an open man, or draw their defense away from Kobe, so Kobe can just drive in. On Lakers defensive end, if they can shut down Parker, Jackson, Bowen's long range shooting, and force them to drive in, then with Shaq in the center, Shaq will always step up and block some shots.

Their offense is very good when run perfectly but this year's Lakers do NOT run it too well. The one big problem with the Lakers this year is that they tend to ignore Shaq in the paint for large stretches from time to time every game. Theoretically the triangle should be doing wonders for them if they only dump it into him more. However, if and when the Spurs start fronting Shaq and putting someone behind him and collapsing on him aggressively, the role players better hit their shots or it's gonna be a looooong night for the Lakers.

my comments about the admiral were in response to laddas saying "Robnson has been a NOTHING all series"

as for your post, gamewiz-
are you still expecting all-star performances from robinson? it's obvious robinson is a shade of his former self and it appears that he's not fully healthy. my guess is that the spurs are relying on d-rob to help try contain shaq and patrol the lane. they don't run plays for him, so whatever he could give on the offensive end is a bonus

as for loveitlive2004:

okay. and the reason the bulls won their 6 championships because they wore black sneakers come playoff time

Shaq got so many off. foul, why did he get so many???? Here's why, Tim Duncan just got MVP, the NBA doesn't want Shaq takes over the show

what's next? ron artest successfully goes through anger management and the nba hands over the Defensive Player of the Year next year to him so ben wallace can't win it 3 times straight???

too bad the next game isn't in L.A., now we won't be able to see quick shots of pretty girls with big twins every time the lakers make a basket

Tue May 13, 2003 5:19 pm

Or perhaps KG will come off the bench so he can win the 6th man of the year award. Or Tim Duncan will change his identity and redeclare for the draft just so he will win the r.o.y one more time :P
But a game 1 performance means nothing if he does squat in the next 3 and does nothing in game 5.

Game 5 hasn't been played yet so we cant say if he has done nothing yet can we?

Tue May 13, 2003 8:23 pm

If Tim Duncan plays as he has been, David Robinson can play a productive 30 minutes, Tony Parker can be the point guard he was in the regular season (scoring AND passing the ball - he's only averaging 2.8 apg in the playoffs), Stephen Jackson has a couple of solid nights at the offensive end and Bruce Bowen can catch fire from downtown AND do a decent defensive job on Kobe, the Spurs have a decent to good chance of winning the series.

But the Lakers didn't have much trouble winning the Minnesota series after tieing it up at 2 games apiece, and I doubt the Spurs can get everything to go as they need it to, to win two games.

no he probably doesnt limp, but you'd expect more than 5.5ppg 5.5rpg from a guy who onced scored 72 in a game.

ATM all robinson is in this series, is just another 6 fouls to defend shaq, sorry to say, but it is

Wed May 14, 2003 3:16 am

I am not expecting a all star performance from Robinson, just a consistent one. the spurs need him to be a 10 and 8 or 8 and 10 guy every game and he has not stepped up, that is far from asking him to be a superstar.

Wed May 14, 2003 4:41 am

I found this article amusing and criticisms of both teams true on some levels:

http://espn.go.com/page2/s/rosen/030512.html

I must be on crack or just plain not paying attention because I didn't even notice Shaq's move to the high post in games 3 and 4. Time to pay more attention tonight. :?

Wed May 14, 2003 3:16 pm

spurs up now 3-2. lakers haven't won in SBC center yet.

interesting to see big country bryant give up the ball on that last possesion. maybe that non call on bowen earlier still weighed on employee #8's mind.

all controversy aside, spurs have the series lead. one more win and they are in the western conference finals

Wed May 14, 2003 3:56 pm

This has be disappointing for the Lakers, to rally back from 25 down only to lose as Horry's shot rimmed out. I stopped watching the live scores midway through the third quarter - needless to say, I was pretty surprised to come back and see the 96-94 final score.

Again, the predictions change. Lakers in 7.

Wed May 14, 2003 5:46 pm

I don't know about the Lakers anymore. They don't play as if they want to win it this year. Sure there was the great 25 point comeback..but the question is not "how did Horry's shot come out" but rather, the question is: why were they down 25 points to begin with?

I believe in omens. Horry's shot was definitely one in my mind. Spurs in 7.

It was a great game to watch. First half wasnt great as a fan of neither team but to watch the lakers battle back was fun. Spurs won and virtually no laker fans post. Hmm. Anyways, the worst the spurs can get is game 7 in san antonio, which should e great. Do or die time for the lakers, and if they survive this the title should be theirs with c webb out.

Wed May 14, 2003 6:24 pm

I still believe in the Lakers....
why?

1. The Lakers came back from a 25 pt deficit in SA,.. with Shaq having a bad game

2. Lakers don't fold under-pressure

3. Been in the EXACT situation before last season with the kings.

4. Kobe's heart and determination to NOT allow this team to lose.

5. The Lakers said they're gonna take either game 5 or 7 on the Spurs homefloor. Well, it looks like it's gonna be game 7

6. Phil Jackson is our coach... he's a genius and he knows what to do in pressure situations.

Wed May 14, 2003 6:46 pm

Spurs won and virtually no laker fans post.

Im sorry I didnt post, maybe the timezone is different over here so I couldnt reply :? but next time I wake up late in the night and I will post something so you would be happy :?

It was a good look for Horry, but not needed!!

The Lakers trailed by two, not three, as Phil Jackson said after the game he didn't draw it up this way and doesn't believe the road team needs to go for the win.

Kobe had Bowen in the air and with a slight lean in on the jumpshot in the corner, as the past has shown he would have got the foul call. Bowen was all over him and in the air, Kobe just should have jumped into him and he would have got 3 free throws, needing only 2 to tie. If you see the replays, check this out.

I really think Kobe should have gone to the basket anyway, I mean you only need two. It's all 20/20 hindsight now, but that is what I saw at the end.

I don't know how Duncan holds things together, but he seemed very down after the game, I really don't think the Spurs should let it bother them, they are playing a team that hasn't lost a series in three years.
I think it may be in his head a bit, but I doubt it matters.

This will go seven games without doubt, If the Spurs can win game six in LA, they are going to crush everyone else.

Dallas did there thing again, but this looks like a seven game series as well.

Wed May 14, 2003 8:30 pm

Dude I wasnt reffering to you when i said that about laker fans not posting. It just seemed weird that after game 4, there was a barrage of posts by laker "fans" and after game 5 you're the only one who posted and supported your team. I respect that (y). As for the other post...

1. The Lakers came back from a 25 pt deficit in SA,.. with Shaq having a bad game

This could work both ways. 1. The Lakers will be confident having nearly won after being down so many, or 2, the Lakers will be frustrated over losing a heartbreaker. Lets see :)
2. Lakers don't fold under-pressure

Well, we'll see. This is a pressure game for them. It's must win. What the Lakers have done in the past doesn't mean they will do it to the spurs.

3. Been in the EXACT situation before last season with the kings.

No, it wasn't the exact same position. Last season the home court advantage wasn't nearly as big of a factor as this years series with the spurs.
4. Kobe's heart and determination to NOT allow this team to lose.

They lost today and Kobe seemed pretty determined down the stretch. Kobe isnt the god of basketball (aka Michael Jordan :P ). Kobe may be a factor in the final 2 games, but he wont be the determining facot. Neither will be Duncan or Shaq. It will be the role players and sadly the referees.
5. The Lakers said they're gonna take either game 5 or 7 on the Spurs homefloor. Well, it looks like it's gonna be game 7

Actions speak louder than words.
6. Phil Jackson is our coach... he's a genius and he knows what to do in pressure situations.

He is their coach. Um, anyways, Phil is a good coach, but lets see what he can muster up here. I just hope he doesnt try to work the officials and just lets the players and strategies sort themselves out and we see the better team advance.

There is one point why the Lakers have a good chance that you didn't mention. Down the stretch, Jackson played the bench players. Maybe, just maybe, this woke up the Derek Fishers and Robert Horry's on the Lakers.

But the Spurs, this is their series and the Lakers have to win at San Antonio, and plus the spurs have a free shot at them in game 6. It has been a great series, but all of the pressure is on the Lakers.

I thought the exact same thing, but then i remebered wen kobe did that with about 2:30 remaing and got fouled yet it wasnt called, Dan Crwford made some bullshit up which made no sense, and people watchign the broadcast woulda heard it(one of them inside sounds thingys).
kobe was clearly hit on the arm on that play, which is a foul

but anyway other than thta and Shaqs Technical this was the best officiated game out of the series
the spurs had the extra 11 FTA but that is the homecourt advantage playing a part in that.

Lakers didnt play in the first 3 quarters, but when kobe hit them 2 threes to close out the 3rd, i KNEW the lakers would make a run, and when horry released shot i jumped out of my seat with excitement coz it looked good, then it rimmed out and i was so pissed!!! ................anyway.

I still see Lakers winning it in 7.

BTW all things i said about Tim Duncan not deserving MVP, please forget them :?
the way he has played this series, he did deserve it as much as Kg,kobe or t-mac. :D

yeah but the MVP had nothing to do what he has done in this series or how KG played in the previous series. It's all about the regular season and KG was the MVP just like Kidd should have been last year. :x

agreed. if it was last year that shot goes in. in their previous series, spurs lead the 1st 3 quarters in their losses. But this year spurs have managed to hold on twice now

as much as it looks like the spurs want to hand the game over to LA, the lakers can't wait until the 4th quarter to start playing anymore. #8 and #34 can't do it alone. i read some stat that Horry is 0-15 from 3pt land this series and 2-30 in the playoffs overall. d george looks like he's hurting. outside of mastering the art of flopping, fisher hasn't been a big factor like he has in previous playoffs. LA can't be expecting medvedenko to drop another 13 points...

as for the non foul on bowen, it's highly debateable. while there was contact made, it was #8 that was initiating the contact. Bowen was standing straight up enough, so the call could be legit, depending on whether you are a spurs/lakers fan. the call could have went either way

spurs need to go in for the kill in game 6. duncan needs to dominate & has to stay out of foul trouble (don't know if that's possible since the game's in LA). perhaps duncan should bring the ball up as well in the final minutes of the game, as it seems the rest of the spurs can't resist from making bonehead plays

Fri May 16, 2003 12:00 am

True Limp, but the it is usually called

coz a hit on the arm is a hit on the arm, abd bruce did move his arm into kobe, which made the contact, so that is a foul.

Fri May 16, 2003 8:35 am

coz a hit on the arm is a hit on the arm

yes it is. as i mentioned early, that play is highly debateable and could have gone either way.

but bowen's arm hitting #8's arm was due to the fact that big country was jumping into him (thus initiating the contact). since you fail to acknowlege/accept that, i'll discount your opinion.

laker fans that let 'laker haters' (or shall i say anyone that doesn't share the same opinions as laker fans) get under their skin so much that they will put a  .......

oh btw.. this is a little off topic, but imagine if big country bryant shot 5-21 from the field. oh wait it already happened...
