They have long made far less than they are worth, and that’s not going to change now.
Really?They deserve even less.
How so?

They could, if they want to lose that player. I'm guessing one of the provisions of using the amnesty is that they can't immediately re-sign that player to a smaller contract, or acquire them via trade for a year.
Sun Nov 27, 2011 4:49 pm
does the contract will reset? I read that the Lakers eyeing Baron Davis and Rashard Lewis.. we know that Lewis is the 2nd highest paid player, what do they mean with that?
and also when will the NBA allow to broadcast the images and videos of current players? I'm tired of watching retros
Sun Nov 27, 2011 4:59 pm
The contracts don't reset, lakers are eying davis and lewis as potential signings, since a new amnesty rule allows each team to waive 1 player without it counting against cap.
You can safely predict that Lewis will be gone.
Sun Nov 27, 2011 5:17 pm
will be gone from Wizards? So the Magic can waive Arenas too?
Sun Nov 27, 2011 8:14 pm
Sure, potentially..
Sun Nov 27, 2011 8:31 pm
so i heard that they are gonna do a super tax to discourage the luxury teams from spending more. is there any truth to that? personally i think it's a good idea to help solve the small market teams' gripes about teams like the lakers and mavs spending almost 100 million
Sun Nov 27, 2011 8:46 pm
So the new CBA will prevent the Mavs to resign Tyson Chandler?
Sun Nov 27, 2011 11:29 pm
I think it's doable and which I think is a must. The mavericks have $64.8 million locked up in 10 player-contracts for next season though.
Tyson Chandler
Caron Butler
J.J. Barea
DeShawn Stevenson
Brian Cardinal
Peja Stojakovic
Out of above players, I say Tyson is a must and Barea is a big maybe.
Mon Nov 28, 2011 1:06 am
Surely Cardinal will be needed for their next title campaign.
Mon Nov 28, 2011 6:44 am
Yes, all I want if Chandler,JJ, and The Custodian! The 1st 3 NovU listed are the most valuable, though.

Harder probably, but not impossible.

I guess i am comparing the pay of NBA players to the pay of NFL players. It just pisses me off that NBA players get more money than NFL players and they cry about a twisted ankle or a broken finger while NFL players still play with broken ribs and punctured lungs.I guess it is also a personal issue with me.
Mon Nov 28, 2011 4:19 pm
Kind of hard to compare the two. A non contact sport where players can end up playing 100 games if you include preseason and playoffs of almost constant running back and forth playing every couple of days to a contact sport where only 20 or so amount of games may get played and the players get to rest for 35 seconds and play for 5-to 20 second intervals depending on whether they are on the field or notand only once a week.
Mon Nov 28, 2011 8:52 pm
well the highest paid players in the NFL make just about as much as the highest paid players in the NBA. but with the NFL playing only 16 games in a season, someone like Julius Peppers make over $1 million per game.
Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:03 pm
Either way players in both leagues are over paid.
Here is the summary of the tentative agreement:

I'm not going to say some players aren't overpaid. Eddy Curry, Travis Outlaw, and various others. But let's leave the discussion to the Lebron/Durant caliber superstars (NFL You could look at the likes of Peyton Manning, AP, Brady, or Rodgers)
This is dumb in the context of superstars.
If i worked for a company where i risked my body each second, i'd expect alot of compensation. Also, with the amount of money these organizations make? Each employee deserves the piece they have carved out for themselves. How many people who dont usually watch the NBA watched Lebron's decision? How many people watched Heat games/The FInals just to see him go down? When one player can bring in fans, they deserve proper payment for it.
Would i love to make millions for being a teacher? Of course i would.
Is my teaching bringing in billions of dollars each portion of the year? Nope.
People should be compensated by what they bring to the company, based on merit.

I don't blame him. That's been a general perception among many casual fans and Russians throughout the lockout.

Part of me makes me think that things could have been taken differently if US economy didn't get fucked up.

exactly. the currys, outlaws, they are mistakes made by GMs. no one forced them to sign those guys for a ton of money. it was their choice. even though some guys like eddy curry *maybe* deserved the money when they were signed, or at least there was a chance they'd live up to the deal, some guys like outlaw didn't deserve it in the first place.
so you can't just make a blanket statement like that about ALL players in both leagues

Exactly. It's all relative to the profession; in terms of their contribution to society and the importance of their jobs, doctors, nurses, fireman, police officers, teachers and so on arguably deserve to be paid more than professional athletes and entertainers. However, that money has to come from somewhere. If doctors were paid like NBA players, who could afford medical care?
Athletes, actors, recording artists...they're in an industry where there's a ridiculous amount of money involved and they're entitled to their slice of the pie, particularly since they're the ones with the talent (or at least the marketability). Some of the complaints from players about being underpaid are a bit on the nose and they can certainly appear to be spoiled, but it's within their rights to try and maximise their earnings based on the kind of salaries that are available to them, given their profession.
Tue Nov 29, 2011 11:54 am
That is a good point, but going back to the NBA:
I just want the deal to be finalized because i just realized how important the games will be this season for every team. With 66 games then that pretty much leaves no room for error to make the playoffs.
Tue Nov 29, 2011 12:15 pm
Absolutely. On the plus side, 72-10 will remain intact for another year, guaranteed.

And you've given precisely zero reason for feeling that way. I'm not going to count the one involving NFL players being paid less, because it's just wrong.
