I thought they would need at least another, but the Heat are already looking like a complete team. With another move or two, they could be a 60+ team already this year.

Does anyone know what's their situation regarding draft picks?

Next year they have their own first round pick plus four second round picks...at least according to nbadraft.net.

Great that James joined Heat, but there can't be 2/3 top players in one team. There should be 1 player that really stands out and now there will be a competition between Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.

Heat is going to have a good season next year, though. :)

The last 3 championships have gone to teams with 2/3 top players.

Why is no one acknowledging the :epicbeardman: of pau gasol?

Who isn't? I think everyone knows that Gasol is the best PF in the league right now.

Every single person who's saying that you can only have 1 star to win a championship (several have done it since 'the decision'). Several people are using that to doubt the Heat. I doubt the Heat: but not due to the fact they have more than 1 alpha dog.

http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/07/18/heat ... n-expected?

the Heat are looking at a starting lineup that includes shot-blocking center Joel Anthony, a defensive specialist, and veteran point guard Carlos Arroyo, to put alongside the Big Three.

What's more impressive is a second team that will include veterans Mike Miller, Udonis Haslem, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Chalmers. Waiting as insurance will be Juwan Howard and Jamaal Magliore.

The Heat still expect to sign another veteran wing player -- still possibly Matt Barnes -- and a third point guard, possibly Jason Williams.

JOEL ANTHONY IS FINALLY GOING TO FUCKING START!!!

Didn't Pau own both Bosh and Dwight in 2008 Olympics?

Pau is amazing anyways. Also having Odom, Bynum, and Artest as supporting casts are a luxury Kobe had. How many games did they save for Kobe, when he was having 5/20 nights.

So the roster is shaping up. PG position is still very thin though.

C - Anthony/Ilgauskas/Pittman/Magloire
F - Bosh/Haslem/Howard
F - LeBron/Jones/FA
G - Wade/Miller
G - Arroyo?/Chalmers/FA

(Magloire re-signed - http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/ ... _magloire/)

Varnado and Hasbrouck are still un-signed.

We have many bigs so Magloire I think will be rarely used perhaps even less than last season. As for James Jones, we get a good shooter at a very good price. Thanks to him for willing to sacrifice the money for the chance to win.

Arroyo is very very likely to re-sign. It'd be big for the Heat to lose him since he had a good second half of last season. Chalmers obviously needs to prove himself now, since it's likely we won't be able to add better PG(s) at this moment.

As for FAs, I heard the front office will go for young prospect for one spot in the roster, while considering T-Mac or others that are available in the FA market to fill that last spot in the roster. Personally, I'd really welcome T-Mac. Gambling(due to his health issues) on that last spot doesn't sound much of risk if T-Mac's willing to come to Miami.

The Heat were 14-3 last season when Joel started, no competition who starts.

Had he started all 80 he played, the Heat would have won 65 games out of those.

Finally, one Miami Heat fan who's intelligent enough to recognize the greatness that is Joel Anthony.

Pretty much no gamble at all for Miami if they bring in T-Mac at the veteran's minimum; same goes for any team that does that I guess but with or without him they're well and truly set at the positions he plays so they can really set the bar low for him, whereas a team like the Bulls might hope for a little more.

Reading Andrew's last post of this thread, it sucks that T-Mac still thinks he deserves more than a chance, and a significant playing time.

Anyways, here's an interesting article.
`They will break the single-season win record [of 72],'' Jeff Van Gundy said. ``And I think they have a legit shot at the Lakers' 33-game [winning] streak [in 1971-72], as well. And only the Lakers have even a remote shot at beating them in a playoff series. They will never lose two games in a row this year.

``They have put together a much better roster than anybody could ever have expected,'' Van Gundy added. ``There is now no good way to defend them. They are unguardable. They are indefensible. They are just too good and have added so much shooting and are so versatile that they will score at will."

I don't buy what Van Ghandi is selling here as he probably is only setting the Heat up for a failure. What he's saying is close to impossible, and he has nothing to lose. If he's right, he's a genius, and if he isn't, he was wrong.

Van Gundy seems to have forgotten the role of the coach. I'm still not sold on Spoelstra.

I hardly ever agree with Van Gundy, even if he was coach of the Rockets before.

Van Gundy certainly loves his bold predictions and proclamations. Besting 70 is easier said than done, every year someone is pegged to do it and while we've seen some exceptional regular season records, up around the 67 win mark and whatnot, they've ultimately fallen short.
