What's the point of owning a team if you can't feel like a slave owner.
Might as well cancel the current CBA and give more than 50% of league profit to the players' share.

Well except for the massive lawsuit that's going to happen.

And finally the reveal of the NBA Constitution hopefully. :cheeky:

I can't wait. NBA Constitution. It's above all laws.

A perfect example of why you mustn't surround yourselves with shady characters. But Sterling is a shady character himself so it doesn't matter.

They certainly didn't hold back. Overdue.

I guess it remains to be seen how much Sterling will fight it, or whether he'll just look to get out of the NBA and sell the team. If it's the latter, it'll be interesting to see if Magic Johnson's group will be the first to throw their hat into the ring.

Re: Clippers owner under investigation for racist comments

Wed Apr 30, 2014 10:52 am

To me Magic Johnson buying the team is just more of an ego thing instead of fighting racism. He is the one that got dissed on the recording so now he is going to stroke his ego and buy the franchise from the guy that dissed him. Fuck you Magic, I'm not buying your fighting racism bullshit.

Re: Clippers owner under investigation for racist comments

Compromise should be Sterling agreeing to sell the team and Magic being banned from appearing at any games or on any NBA telecast not related to the 1980's Lakers teams.

My problem with all of this turns this great opportunity to discuss race relations and minorities' roles in society but it gets watered down into news media gold with the "oh this guy's racist. that's bad. applaud the commissioner!"

and Silver is getting props for doing exactly what he needed to do to avoid a players' strike.

Everybody is forgetting the real lesson here. "When you are an old as fuck billionaire, don't talk with a ho."

Sterling is not interested in selling the team. He had already had plans to turn the franchise over to his son in law.

That.
Instead of knowing why the racist ended up that way and address or educate more about the problem the situation is conveniently simplified in shunning or labeling the person at fault as an outcast with everyone learning nothing from the situation because the default response is just to dismiss or make the bad guy go away.

I also like to puke at such media statements like "Proud moment for the NBA" for doing something about the whole situation like the NBA didn't ignore and tolerate what Sterling did over the years.

It's also sad that it took a scum bucket gossip outlet like TMZ to make most people aware of Sterling's mere thoughts about black people instead of his actions he did over the years that bears greater weight.

He got banned for life by the league and fined 2.5 million dollars.

Re: Clippers owner under investigation for racist comments

As someone who doesn't approve of racial segregation, I hope Larry Johnson gets banned from the NBA for life too. I think it would be only fair, especially since his comments weren't part of a secretly recorded conversation (isn't that called "illegal wiretapping", by the way?).

Re: Clippers owner under investigation for racist comments

Wed Apr 30, 2014 9:56 pm

I can understand the banning part. Everybody is disgusted at how racist Sterling is and blah blah...But what is up with that fine?

He can't speak his mind when engaged in a "private" conversation? Or is it some sort of technique to terrorize folks into thinking twice before they say "black" man?

As for "we aren't learning anything" topic, I don't see what is up there for discussion. You don't discriminate people through their colors. Nothing needs to stirred or confronted here, it's the same old racism. You put up people who are racist as a "hated and disgusted person" to the society so that "folks" learn from it. It's all a mental thing anyway. But, I would like to know what Qballer and shadowgrin meant, or maybe I misunderstood them.

Re: Clippers owner under investigation for racist comments

Wed Apr 30, 2014 9:56 pm

This is so unfair and frustrating. I am going to go a bit out of line here. I really don't know where to start, so this post is going to be a little here and there.

I feel really sorry for Sterling. Sure, over the years he has shown what an asshole he is. But people are coming on him so hard without even looking at the details. People tend to do that just to feel in trend and important.

People are forgeting that this was a PRIVATE conversation with his whore of a girlfriend, which the NBA got from freaking TMZ(good this going to be funny in a couple of years). If the man can't talk privately, where can he? Like everyone in the NBA loves everyone.

I think Sterling got fucked over a couple of things. Number one he is white. If this was a black man saying that about a white guy, I don't know if he would even get fined(I'm dead serious). Black people get away with so much thing only because nobody is taking it so personal. Why now be such a hypocryte? And it happens to help that the person Sterling was talking about was Magic Johnson, the peoples champion, the HIV hero, the leagues poster child.

And boy the stupid players and ex stars. Did they make a mess out of this. Oh it hurt them,oh this or that, what primadona bitches. The only reason the did all of that because they felt that this was a situation where they can actually be important, where their PBA could get a vote, more important than the owner, when in reality every single one of them is an expendable merchandise.

And the stupid copy protest the Miami Heat did. Surely an event this "big" can't go without fucking superstars getting involved. They do in fact want to talk about their support and how they are also hurt, so they too could say something about the problem, so the fans and people around them can look at them as heroes. Oh please.

I am starting to think that this was a setup to get rid of Sterling. Why? I have no idea. But to get banned from your team for this shit? To get fined 2.5 million for this shit? Adam Silver is hanging onto Gods balls with this.

And yet people praise Adam Silver, he is a hero.

Adam Silver is an idiot. He did this because the league would attack and dislike him, and he obviously does what the majority feels is right(and by majority I mean butthurt players). People say he did a good job controling this situation, when he can't control anything in the league. Look what a mess it was.

People didn't like David Stern, yet he was miles better than Silver. He Had control.

Oh and Obama, how stupid can you be. Surely they'll ban him now that the president said something.

This was racist. Racist to Donald Sterling.

Raging Mad Dick Out.

EDIT: Sterling should sue the NBA and TMZ, it has to be ilegal what they did.

You butthurt

But yeah, seriously, how in the world can you sue a man that is privately conversing to another? I know he's up to public scrutiny with his actions, but there should be at least a little privacy out there.

Expecting a lot of hate posts, but still, I don't get it.

NBA's Commissioner Adam Silver announcement.
______________________________________________________

Dear Fans,

This afternoon I announced that, following the completion of a thorough investigation into an audio recording obtained by TMZ, I banned Donald Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers or the NBA, effective immediately. Mr. Sterling may not attend any NBA games or practices, be present at any Clippers office or facility, or participate in any business or player personnel decisions involving the team. I also fined Mr. Sterling $2.5 million, the maximum amount allowed under the NBA Constitution. These funds will be donated to charitable organizations dedicated to anti-discrimination and tolerance efforts that will be jointly selected by the NBA and its Players Association.

The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and hurtful. I am extremely proud of this great league's diverse, respectful and inclusive culture, and we will not allow one individual's intolerant views to define us. Let me be clear: Mr. Sterling's views have no place in the NBA.

This has been a painful episode for all members of the NBA family. I very much appreciate your understanding during this process. I also want to express my thanks and admiration to Coach Doc Rivers, Chris Paul, and the entire Clippers organization for their professionalism throughout this matter, and to Chris and Mayor Kevin Johnson for their leadership and partnership on behalf of the Players Association.

And now I am eager to turn the spotlight back where it belongs: on the game we all love and on these thrilling playoffs, which have been some of the most exciting basketball I've seen in my 22 years with the league. I hope you enjoy the rest of the playoffs and The Finals.

Sincerely,

Adam Silver

Adam is perfect, the NBA is an example not only of business, but of life. The World already got too many issues, and more serious problems to deal with it, so any type of prejudice, racist, segregation or any discriminate act or speech, should be left out and :banned: (CAN'T BELIEVE I'M USING THIS SMILE!!! OMG!!! HOLY SHITTY!!!).

But the matters do not end here, that's why i agree with these guys...

Could you elaborate that?

Yeah that's exactly why the whole world went wild over a private statement.

So the measures are ok, imo,

How is penalizing a guy 2.5 million for privately expressing of his thoughts and forcing him to sell his 700 million franchise fair?

NOTE: I fully agree with the fact racism is disgusting and that it shouldn't have a place in sports.
