And there goes Doc, for an unprotected 2015 first rounder.....
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--clipp ... 37296.htmlWith the Celtics moving into a rebuilding phase, several sources told Yahoo! Sports that Boston management preferred draft-pick compensation over paying for an elite coach.

This sounds exactly like what the nba didn't allow as a package. If they allow it, it's probably to keep Chris Paul in Los Angeles. Then they will not approve the KG trade. Unless they just want to keep him in the league.

Surprised the Celtics actually are getting away with trading a coach.
Going to be interesting what Stern's gonna say about this.
As for the Celtics, I have a few questions. Where are they heading with Rondo from here. Also what happens with Paul Pierce? It'll be sad if he doesn't retire a Celtics. Lastly, will they retire KG's jersey? They already have many HOFs' retired. I'm interested to see if KG's 6 great years will be recognized. I don't think Ray's 5 years was gonna make it in Boston anyways whether he stayed or not. They tried trading him for couple seasons while he was there. But situation with KG's little different.

Clippers and Celtics probably going to have a third team join the trade for KG and present it to Stern that IT'S A SEPARATE DEAL FROM THE COACH TRADE.

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/ ... or-pierce/The Cavs have likely spoken to the Celtics about small forward Paul Pierce’s availability. The latest rumor is the Cavs offering their two second-round picks for the 35-year-old Pierce. Pierce’s $15.3 million contract for next year would become guaranteed if he’s dealt.
Would prevent the get-nothing $5 Million buyout (according to reddit) and evidently this
THE REDDIT wrote:Not mentioned here, the Celtics would gain a 15 million dollar trade exception by doing this deal, which is actually a pretty good asset and could be used in a deal to get someone like Josh Smith.

Can always sign and retire as a Celtic. The sadness is him in a different uniform.

Any trade involving KG to the Clippers after Doc Rivers gets signed is seen as part of a package deal and will most likely not be approved.
However, this entire thing makes me wonder what the motives of the NBA are, other than protecting the rules. Turning an exciting team into a truly contending exciting team basically means $$$. Isn't that what they want? Who is going to be competitive in the Western Conference next year besides Oklahoma City? Memphis got rid of their good coach. Lakers are a big question mark. Who knows how long the Spurs can keep up their level of play? Golden State will likely look similar but should be better. And the Clips aren't going to do anything better than the past two years if they don't get a good coach and more playoff experience.

That's what the league said to Sterling when he wanted to move the Clippers from San Diego to Los Angeles...
If there's someone crazy enough to take on Stern, it's Sterling.

Reminds me a little of Pat Riley going to the Heat in 1995, which saw the Knicks receiving the #19 pick in 1996 (Walter McCarty) and $1 million as compensation. It will be interesting to see how the league handles any talk of a KG trade, but if nothing else it seems the Clippers' chances of keeping Chris Paul are looking quite good.

It's just about official. Awaiting approval.
Mon Jun 24, 2013 4:19 pm
Its official. Lookout for the Clippers.

nooooooo i was hoping to get byron scott. i dont want boston's leftovers
although pretty much anything is an upgrade from vinny, you could hire a monkey to do a better job than him
Tue Jun 25, 2013 1:09 am
There goes any chance of Dirk teaming up with Paul. Like there is any chance to begin with.
Tue Jun 25, 2013 3:20 am
paul was never leaving. howard is also staying
Tue Jun 25, 2013 4:43 am
Antoine Walker thinks he can be the next Celtics coach. Problem solved.
Tue Jun 25, 2013 6:02 am
i want walker as a coach, just not for my team. i would love to see a team take 75% of their shots from behind the line
Tue Jun 25, 2013 7:34 am
You want him to coach the Warriors?
Tue Jun 25, 2013 7:48 am
Are we sure he hasn't been consulting with the Knicks?
Tue Jun 25, 2013 9:22 am
Don Nelson is coming back to the league?
Tue Jun 25, 2013 10:54 am
Ainge just might want to pass on that opportunity.

Would CP3 really be keen on that reunion, though? Wasn't there a bit of a falling out between them in New Orleans?

Why doesn't anyone want D'Antoni? He's got a mustache and you get his brother in the package deal.

i want him to stay where he is. he has something to prove and staying in LA is the best way for him to do it.

Yeah I don't know what's the big deal about Byron Scott, he sucks. He has been pushed out of his teams by his star PGs, Kidd in NJ, Paul in NO, and recently Irving in Cleveland.
I would rather have Mike Brown than Byron Scott.

Rivers introduced as Clippers' new coach and senior VPSeems like it's official. And he's also a senior VP.
The Clippers finalized the championship-winning coach's move from the Boston Celtics on Tuesday after weeks of negotiations and reversals.
Boston will get a future first-round pick from the Clippers for Rivers, who went 416-305 and won the 2008 NBA title during nine seasons with the Celtics.
LoL. Isn't this an unprecedent trade? Shouldn't be happening imo.

Doc Rivers' compensation agreement states that Celtics and Clippers can't exchange players until the end of the '13-'14 season, source says.
https://twitter.com/KBergCBS/status/349633300039610368from the Reddits
Doc had a clause in his contract that stated he couldn't coach another team for 5 years if he didn't finish out his contract.
Teams can entice other teams to let coaches out of their contract with stuff like draft picks.
But they can't mix in other players. They can't say, 'Hey release your coach and we'll send you DJ+Bledsoe for KG' that is essentially tampering. You can't set up one deal with a team with the promise of a following deal.
An easier example would be Joe Smith and the Minnesota Timberwolves;
Following the 1999–2000 season, it was discovered that Smith was involved in a salary cap–tampering scandal involving Timberwolves executive Kevin McHale. Smith was allegedly promised a future multi-million dollar deal if he signed with the team for below market value, allowing the team to make some additional player moves in the short term.
So the league let them entice the Celtics to let Doc out of his contract, but they aren't going to let the two teams trade players because at this point, it would be obvious that it would have been set up to supplement the Doc Rivers trade.
Wed Jun 26, 2013 9:33 am
Unprecedented? Andrew already mentioned something similar with Pat the Rat going to the Heat from the Knicks in this very page, above.
Why pay 7 million to Rivers just to coach when he can also be a senior VP at the same time! Bargain!
