Perhaps Chase will have an entertaining dunk or two. I still feel like it should be Parsons in the dunk contest and Budinger in the Shooting Stars, but I'll be happy to be proven wrong. Still hoping for some entertaining stuff, even if it isn't a star studded field and the format's a little iffy.

Warning, watching these warmup dunks and the video from the amateur dunk contest will ruin whatever the NBA does tomorrow night.

Yep, the NBA contest will be hard pressed to top some of that stuff.

They need to use the amateur dunkers as coaches or something.
Sat Feb 25, 2012 1:21 pm
Didn't they try that the other year with Rudy Gay and Werm?

NBDL Dunk Contest was pretty good. Not as good as the D-League all star game, but pretty good.

OKAY! Who THE FUCK voted for Jeremy Evans?
Sun Feb 26, 2012 2:31 pm
That was another waste of a dunk competition and time.I don't know why i keep on watching it every year thinking it will be different. That is complete crap that the judges were the fans.I really wish they would go to the original format.

As I said in the other thread, I'm fine with him winning as I thought he had the best dunk of the night. On the whole too many cheesy gimmicks, the format and MC approach with Kenny Smith didn't work out that well and not enough creativity. A few nice dunks but overall a subpar dunk contest.

True, but you gotta admit Paul George won that hands down...

Don't know how Evans wins. He's 3rd best dunker on the night. Either Chase (extra kudos for channelling Cedric but going reverse) or George should've won, probably former.
Best dunk of night was Rubio off side of backboard to Derrick Williams for the finish. Unfortunately he blew it in final round.
But yeah, competition needs to be similar format to 3pt contest. 6 dunkers, 2 dunks per round, top 3 go onto final. Make competing in ASW activities mandatory except for injury. If you can't compete in dunk contest due to injury then you are ineligible for any other ASW events (e.g. All-Star game). With 6 dunkers you could have a field like Lebron, Griffin, Wall plus a few young darkhorses like Evans, Chase & George who might surprise.

Lame ass shit. What a waste of time for everyone in that arena who paid a lot of money to come watch.

I thought George had the best set of dunks.
I think if Williams had completed his final dunk he might have had the better set.
I don't think Chase got enough credit for his dunks, especially his windmill. If you go back and watch it, check out his elevation, it's insane how high he got.
I didn't like Evans style going into the event, I saw the videos posted in (i think) this thread and I only liked a couple of the dunks shown. I thought his first dunk was wack. I understand the difficulty in his 2nd dunk, but his style is just ugly imo. I liked his final dunk however. That being said, I'm still not a fan of Evans' dunks.

Now, there is an opportunity for Jeremy Evans to be a better baller.
I watched the recap. All dunks are nice. I really liked Evans's 2 balls and George's dunk in darkness.

That two ball dunk was the best, and it's hard to do that with style, let alone do it at all.
Sun Feb 26, 2012 8:45 pm
it was shit. the D-League contest was more entertaining IMO. The two ball dunk was the best and the only "memorable" dunk for me. Everything else was either a repeat of a previous dunk, terrible, or too gimicky....with exception of the 360 side oop.
They should run 2 contests. Best Dunk and then a Dunk Contest like the format of the X-Games. Best dunk would be similar to the current format, except you only get to do 1 dunk, 3 attempts. The actual Dunk Contest with that jam session format would be pretty cool. 15 Minute running clock, 30 seconds to do a dunk, 1 replacement attempt each time, after a dunk or times up next person goes. More of a constant "battle" than the current format, and it would allow players to do old school dunks and not be penalized as much for it.

They just need to give up the gimnicks and go back to dunking the freaking ball. Paul George idea was amazing in my opinion (360 windmill) je horsebackrided Roy Hibbert on that dunk. Dunk contest should be cancelled for a few years it's getting worser by year

I don't agree. His first dunk was alright but we've seen stuff like it before. His second dunk was the best, though I didn't really see what he did until the replay and the gimmick just ruined it for me, being beyond corny in my view. His third dunk was another cheesy gimmick that's been done before and it took him way too many tries to get it done. You can argue that he should've won, but I wouldn't say he won hands down. It was a pretty close contest when it came down to it, and not in a good way.
In a contest like this, the guy who made the best dunk was going to win. I still say that was Evans' second dunk, so fair enough he won. With 29% of the vote, it's not like he won in a landslide anyway. Underwhelming contest.
Even though it may go against the spirit of creativity, I think they're going to have to start cracking down on/banning some of these gimmicks. Going back to the old format with judges for the whole contest is also a must. Find some other way to get fans involved by all means, but let each dunk be scored by judges, highest total scores in each round ultimately advance and win.

Jaosming was right the D-League dunk contest was way better than the NBA's...

That's what frustrates me about the contest. There are guys in the NBA who have the athleticism to pull off creative stuff with the ball, there's no need for the cheesy gimmicks. Derrick Williams probably had the most solid contest in that respect: the windmill over the motorcycle, the 360 off the side of the board and his original idea for his third dunk. Had he got the third dunk to go down, I think you could've given him the contest. Still, without scoring for each dunk, it's a case of best dunk wins because that's what stands out in everyone's mind.
Sekou Smith begins to make some good points in that blog post, but then the post ends abruptly before it's really gone into detail on the matter. It's a good starting point though: change the format, bring back the judges, cut down on gimmicks.

I wanted Paul to win, but Evans' 2-ball dunk was the best, IMO.
