We lost to Greece. Nothing will work with trying three-pointers. Orhun Ene is horrible.

KEYS FOR TURKEY:
- Be aware of Diamantidis and Spanoulis
- Use area defense
- Blankete Sofo and Tsartsaris
- Help C and PF to get score.
I think you can work for Boktan TANJEVIC

No thanks.
Why not

I think you have this potential for coaching assistant and Boktan Tanjevic could always use help. He is very often perplexed

Ow, what happened to Turkey? 62-38? Couldn't Turkoglu, Ilyasova, Kanter do something? Sorry for the loss. Greece is always a tough opponent.
If it makes you feel any better, tournament hosts Lithuanians lost to Russians the second time (at home) 80-88. We really need to step it up defensively. We need to be more alert defensively. Kirilenko dunked on Lithuanian big men at least twice. Plus, he had 6 steals and 4 blocked shots. Unbelievable.

2 out of the 3 you mentioned sucks. No surprise with the score.
Sat Aug 20, 2011 7:49 pm
Ilyasova was sick during Turkey's World Cup run. Hedo does indeed suck.
Germany will host Greece tonight. We have a pretty good squad this year, only missing Elias Harris out of Gonzaga. Dirk and Kaman did well against Belgium last night, combining for 35 points although they did not play many minutes.

hova wins for guessing the good Turkey player right.

What about Enes Kanter the draftee? He was let out for only 3 minutes and committed a foul. Is he clueless about European basketball or did he get injured?
Today, we play against our neighbors Latvians. Should be an interesting match

Fixed.
Well, during the game against Belgium, Kanter in only 14 minutes of playing time scored 7 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and blocked 2 shots. He's still new to European basketball, but he can be useful against weak teams.
We barely won against Latvia 95-75. If it wasn't for Marijonas Petravicius and his brilliant provocations of fouls (he drew 9 fouls and made 16/18 FT and 5/5 2P despite being a center), we'd have lost the game. Big men Ksystof Lavrinovic, Robertas Javtokas and Darius Songaila are all injured, coach Kemzura talked about bringing back "D-Mo" (Donatas Motiejunas) into the roster, whom he cut earlier.

Dude, it's Belgium.

Greece is showing a great form so far with 6 wins on 7 matches. And considering our squad is the weakest and less experienced of the last 7 years,I'm really satisfied on how the team is going.I think we can even hope for the final 4 teams, hoping that we are not playing against Spain on the early knock-out stages...
But the good about this Greek team,is that is formed of young ,talented players who are willing to prove everyone that they can offer. And this motivation and freshness that Greece has,is going to be the force that carries us in the Eurobasket. I really give more chances to our team though now than a couple of weeks back, when the preparation started...

Saw the first half of Latvia's game against Lithuania and we(latvia) looked bad. We just can't afford to play on defense liked that if we want even to try to get some wins at the EC. I mean, freakin' Petravicus got 18 FTA, wtf? The latvian coach said that the second half was much better, but i didn't see it so i can't comment on that. I just hope we get our game together and get at least one win before the championship. We still have 2 games against Georgia and one againts Great Britain at home, so we should get a win or two.

These practice games doesn't mean anything at all, Latvia used to be the "champion of exhibition games" , but it didn't help us much, when the real games started, so don't get your hopes up
Mon Aug 22, 2011 1:11 am
I know, but still we can get some first impressions from an entirely new team that Greece is, and those are really positive...
Mon Aug 22, 2011 1:29 am
Yea, Greece has young blood and a pretty good coach. Plus, they have some experienced players - Fotsis, Koufos, Zisis, Bourousis that can step it up if the youngsters are playing poorly. Good team chemistry.
Which three of the the following do you think should be cut from Lithuanian roster? We have too many big men.
Marijonas Petravicius
6'10''; mainly plays center, but can also play PF; great on offense, decent on defense, strong, though not much of a rebounder
AVERAGES in FRIENDLY MATCHES - 14:02 minutes per game, 11.6 points per game, 3 rebounds per game, 0.6 assists per game, 0.4 steals per game, 0 blocks per game, 1 turnover per game, 2.4 personal fouls per game in 5 games
Paulius Jankunas
6'9''; PF only; young, quick, pretty good defense, decent offensively, soft (can be stripped of the ball easily)
AVERAGES - 25:01 mpg, 9.8 ppg, 5 rpg, 2 apg, 0.8 spg, 1 bpg, 2 topg, 2 fpg in 5 games
Ksystof Lavrinovic (injured)
6'11''; mainly a PF, rarely a C; can steal, block, rebound, a jack-of-all-trades, a bit slow, makes few careless turnovers, and doesn't have a superb form
AVERAGES - 19:13 mpg, 9 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1 apg, 2 spg, 0.5 bpg, 2.5 topg, 1.5 fpg in 2 games
Darius Songaila (injured)
6'9''; PF only; excellent mid-range shot, can provide help grabbing rebounds, has a tendency to foul out quickly and is a bit slow defensively (unable to keep up with faster PFs)
AVERAGES - 13:26 mpg, 8.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 0.3 apg, 0 spg, 0 bpg, 1.3 topg, 3 fpg in 4 games
Jonas Valanciunas
6'11''; plays center only; excellent rebounder, plays really well under the basket, quick and enthusiastic, but cannot create his own shot, has a tendency to foul out quickly, cannot hustle with a stronger center, makes a couple of mistakes defensively, doesn't have much experience (which is okay, considering he's 19 years old)
AVERAGES - 19:29 mpg, 13.2 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 0.3 apg, 0.5 spg, 0.5 bpg, 1.5 topg, 2.7 fpg in 6 games
Donatas Motiejunas (cut from the team, but may come back due to the big men injuries)
7'0''; can play both center and PF (though he would most likely be used as a PF); Nowitzki-type player, very quick, pretty good offensively, can shoot for three, not much of a rebounder, is okay defensively, lacks experience
AVERAGES - 8:21 mpg, 6.5 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0 apg, 1 spg, 0.5 bpg, 0.5 topg, 1 fpg in 2 games
Robertas Javtokas (injured)
6'11''; plays center only; really strong, experienced, can hustle with other strong centers, grabs an occasional rebound and blocks, though slow, not too good offensively, poor FT shooter
AVERAGES - 14:53 mpg, 5.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 0.5 apg, 0.5 spg, 1 bpg, 1.8 topg, 2 fpg in 4 games
Darjus Lavrinovic
7'0''; mainly plays center, but can fill in for PF; experienced, strong, decent offensively (though not a very accurate shooter), also slow on defense (which causes him foul trouble), makes careless turnovers and is inconsistent in his game (one day, he can play really well, another day he won't make a shot)
AVERAGES - 13:23 mpg, 8 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 0.8 apg, 0 spg, 0.2 bpg, 1.8 topg, 2.8 fpg in 5 games
Mon Aug 22, 2011 3:10 am
Germany just won against Turkey 64-52 in a otherwise forgettable game. IIRC Kaman scored 16 and Nowitzki 14 but the poor shooting continues... I don't have high hopes concerning the EM 2011.
Btw. From what I saw, (by now) Kanter is much overrated. Sometimes he seems as quick and agile as a fridge...

OKman - Knowitiski
Best front court from Euro? Or is it Gasol - Gasol?
Tue Aug 23, 2011 3:59 am
I'd say it's Gasol - Gasol, if Pau gets his head free of his private problems he equals Dirk and Marc is surely better than Kamen.
Wed Aug 24, 2011 7:51 pm
I say Koufos-Bouroussis is the best frontcourt
Wed Aug 24, 2011 8:04 pm
I'm thinking Cavs should've used their #3 pick on Jonas.
Wed Aug 24, 2011 11:31 pm
In Raptors, Valanciunas might be playing alongside Kleiza, which will boost his confidence.
Today, we're up against Slovenes. Gotta watch out for Lakovic, Smodis and Lorbek

.

I'm quite impressed with Kaman's play. Maybe because I never really watched him playing as he is with the Clippers and hampered by injuries every year. He's got some strenght and knows how to play with his back to the basket. No All-Star, but slightly beyond and when not taking too many shots, pretty helpful (especially for the German squad)

I agree on that. He played quite efficient the last game against Bosnia.

He played with Fenerbahce at Euroleague for a year, but Orhun Ene (the new coach) thinks that he can go with older ballers.
Sat Aug 27, 2011 6:22 pm
Germany beat Macedonia by two points (70:68). Schaffartzik hit the game winning 3pointer.
I was really shocked about how bad Germany's perimeter defense was. Ballhandling was also an issue. Nowitzki and Kaman committed unecessary turnovers very late in the game...

Latvia plays against Great Britain today and I'll have the opportunity to see my 2nd favourite player on Bulls team

Thus far Latvia has only one win against Georgia and we're hoping to get another against GB.
Sat Aug 27, 2011 11:17 pm
newc, how do Georgians look? Is there any other good player besides Zaza Pachulia? I'm scared - we play against them today, and if we lose, we'll be the worst team ever.
