Amazing that the score was as close as it was when it's all said and done, the way the Mavs were playing it felt like they should've won by a lot more. Good effort by the Thunder to make one last run to stay in the game until the final minute but what a night for Dirk, a proverbial video game performance. I was hoping he'd get 50 but 48 certainly isn't too shabby, not to mention two Playoffs records along the way.

This game showed me that OKC having a chance to win this series isn't too far-fetched despite Dirk's 48. They just need to get Westbrook going. They got to the free throw line more and out rebounded Dallas. Perhaps after seeing their careless mistakes they'll play better in gm 2.

Fuck me. I missed it. :|

Game 1 was streamed live on nba.de FOR FREE and I missed it... :? On the other hand, nice game for both Dirk and Durant. But I guess it could have been a closer contest if the refs weren't so petty.
No Westbrook-Kidd mismatch so far. Nice.

If Dirk hadn't choked and allowed the Thunder to take the lead in the first quarter he wouldn't have had to play so hard. Same if he was an actual leader who made his teammates better.

Dirk still has tons to learn from Kobe Bryant. Besides, one lucky game doesn't erase a history of choking and terrible playoff play, unlike Kobe's peerless record.

Yep. Dirk definitely has to learn how to shoot on a double-team, learned how not to pass and score 20 points on 30 shots.

Baby steps. We don't want to overwhelm Dirk with too much pressure lest he choke to death.

3 a.m. wasn't the best time (compared to some west coast games), but I still think it was worth getting up at night. 48 points by my fav. player - always good to see.

I hope that the series does not continue like that, I simply don't like seeing two teams shooting tons of free throws. The Mavs may have an advantage with that though, since they are an even better free throw shooting team than the Thunder.

Westbrook needs to hit his 15-18 foot J or he is no threat. The so called "mismatch" featuring him & Jason Kidd is not really existent. Sure, he can drive past Kidd, but Westbrook will also drive past players like Chris Paul as he's simply athletic. But team defense - and especially zone defense - can really kill his game if he does not hit jumpshots.

For the Mavs, I hope that Peja will have a better performance in the next game, he had some good looks and only hit one shot.

But no playoffs is playoffs without Kobe. It's just too boring without him, the GOAT. I hope he gets his motives back and actually try a little. Too evident in last series.

I'm sorry but wtf? What is this shit with Kobe being the GOAT? I respect what he has accomplished but Michael Jordan is the GOAT. Look at the teams Jordan had to face throughout his career to win those six championships.

Seems like someone forgot about 81. Or even all the other facts that were laid out in the Scamavericks/Lakers thread.

And Jordan faced a bunch of crap that never won any titles. Plus Jordan had Pippen and Rodman and Horace Grant and so on. Kobe's had to topple the Celtics and Spurs alone. Plus the media and the league and refs were all on Jordan's side, unlike Kobe who has to fight them off constantly as they try to ruin his career and personal life out of sheer jealously of his talent and ideal family.

He's the evolution of Jordan, Jordan v2.0. He's Jordan if Jordan had a three point shot and rebounding plus a bunch of bug fixes. Look at their head to head matchups, Kobe destroys him. Kobe wouldn't have given up like Jordan did either. He would have kept winning titles in 1994, 1995 and kept playing after 1998. And he never would have come back to play for some crappy rival, he's loyal to the Lakers.

Oh, and Derrick Rose: zero rings.

All the Scamavericks/Blunder/Defeat/NoBalls fans can enjoy their asterisk.

I mind you that those 81 pts were scored on the Toronto Raptors. Their best player was Chris Bosh. Atleast Jordan's 63 pts and 69 pts were against two quality teams.

Jordan was not alone but neither was Kobe. Kobe had Shaq (who averaged 27-29 ppg the years they won nba titles), Glen Rice, Robert Horry, Ron Harper, Derek Fisher, and now he has Pau Gasol, Bynum, Lamar Odom and Ron Artest. That's a long list of solid players. Jordan never had an MVP bigman that averaged 25 ppg and 10 rpg the years him and the Bulls won nba titles. Kobe also had Gary Payton and Karl Malone a year they should have won the NBA title.

You are right that Kobe is without a doubt a better shooter LONG RANGE but he's not a better rebounder. And he did destroy Jordan head to head as he was supposed to because he was the younger more athletic of the two during that time. Jordan was in his late 30s to early 40s in those matchups against Kobe. Man was getting old. And if we're using head to head matchups to compare players I guess that makes LeBron and Wade better than Kobe.
