Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson to OKC for Green and Krstic
The Celtics are gambling with their now shaky center position, Green returns to Boston (they drafted him and traded for Ray Allen if i'm not wrong). Watch out OKC now

Thabeet and a Griz 1st Rounder to HOU for Battier
Emm... not so sold on this trade... Battier will help but he's behind Gay but will solidify the Grizz D. Let's see what happens with Thabeet

Aaron Brooks to Suns for Dragic and 1st Rounder
I love it for Phoenix, Dragic was having a bad year and Brooks is an instant firepower of the bench, ideal for PHX

Gerald Wallace to POR for Joel Przybilla and a 2nd round pick
I read in hoopsworld that Charlotte received 2 1st roundes in 2011, if they traded for just a second rounder they're fuckin stupid

Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong for mike bibby Jordan Crawford and mo Evans
This will not solve Atlanta problems at the PG position

Nazr Mohammed to OKC for DJ White and Mo Pete
Good move by OKC, Mohammed is a good presence in the floor and he can a good backup for Perkins. The Thunder has a great team now... but... do they have a true PF?

Marquis Daniels to SAC for $$$

WTF?

Celtics' Luke and Erden for a CLE 2nd Rounder?
WTF 2.. Semih Erden was a good C... they are making room for who? PJ Brown? Sheed? :?

Fallen through
OJ Mayo to IND for Josh McRoberts and a 1st Rounder
Good trade for both.. but Indy got the best part of it. Mayo can be a 20 point player in the short term and watch out McRoberts

Seriously?

Maybe that's a bit of an overstatement, what I said, but we did get what we needed, a shot blocker. We got better deals than what other teams got, though.

Also, not sure if someone's posted it yet, but Baron to Cleveland.

EDIT: Yep, thread posted on it.

I like the moves by the Blazers and also by the Hawks.

I do not get why Boston did what they did but I am not complaining. :)

You will be complaining when the Thunder prove to be a legitimate threat to the Lakers now...

z02, I added them to my future associations list. :cheeky: (j/k)

King Dee, the Knicks also got Brewer from the Wolves.

Re: Deadline Trades

Fri Feb 25, 2011 11:30 am

The Sacramento Boston trade was done for the purpose of Salary considerations. There is such a thing as being too far under the cap! Sacramento can just wave Daniels and not worry about team chemistry.

Re: Deadline Trades

Fri Feb 25, 2011 11:54 am

King Dee, the Bobcats also got Sean Marks in the Wallace trade, and the two picks are 2011 1st round from the Hornets, and a 2013 first-rounder. Charlotte subsequently waived Sherron Collins and Dominic McGuire. The whole thing deserves one big :facepalm2:
Also, the Celtics - Kings trade, Boston gives away Daniels and cash for a 2017 pick.

Re: Deadline Trades

Fri Feb 25, 2011 12:04 pm

Terrible things will happen in Charlotte's future. :?

z02, So Charlotte will have 16 players in their roster? okay got it. thanks.

Re: Deadline Trades

Fri Feb 25, 2011 12:08 pm

This trade is great for Charlotte as it allows them to actually rebuild. Better that than never have cap room and finish 10th every season. If they are able to deal Jax this summer (doubtful), then they will really be on the right track.

Re: Deadline Trades

Fri Feb 25, 2011 12:22 pm

Guys, Did Perkins turn down a contract offer from the Celtics of $6-$8M per year some time ago? I think i read it some time ago but i don't remember..

That can be a posibility of why the Celtics traded him

Actually, more than 16, since we also gave up Mohammed for White and Peterson. 17 players. We should have dumped a couple of bad contracts (Diop, Carroll) in this trade as well, then we wouldn't be salary-cap-bound as much.

Dealing Jax isn't the way to go. We need to see how he plays on his own ...oh my god he really is on his now... if he can deliver 25 ppg through the next ~30 games, then keep him, if he continues to put up 17-18 ppg, then trade him off. maybe. Whatever happens, don't give the Bobcats draft picks. We know what's happened with those. (see: Morrison, Ajinca, Henderson, May, Wright) Better to trade off the picks for decent role players. New Orleans' pick will be around 20th, I guess. Not a top ten pick, like it would be basically any other year.

Alejandrov011, yeah I think I remember that as well.

Re: Deadline Trades

Fri Feb 25, 2011 12:53 pm

Considering they traded Wright, the only pick that was all that bad that you listed was AMMO. Late lottery players like Hendo (who the jury is still out on) and May historically tend to be fringe role players. Besides, the draft is simply how you build your team if you're a small market team. That's just the way it is. You only keep Crash if you want to keep fighting for the 8 seed year after year.

If Stephen Jackson puts up 25 PPG (which I wouldn't put past him), it would be on very poor efficiency - worse than his current efficiency if possible. You don't want to build around old chuckers.

Re: Deadline Trades

Fri Feb 25, 2011 12:57 pm

Shame about losing Green, I liked him. Perkins could be the big man we've been lacking though. Hopefully Ibaka will start now. (Y)

I like the fact that Perkins and Nazr Mohammed have been part of championship winning teams. That should be a positive in the playoffs.

Re: Deadline Trades

Fri Feb 25, 2011 1:04 pm

The Bobcats waived Derrick Brown, Sherron Collins and Dominic McGuire. And acquired Dante Cunningham, Sean Marks, Morris Peterson, Joel Przybilla and DJ White. That puts them at 14 men.
The Houston-Memphis trade involves not only Shane Battier and Hasheem Thabeet, but Ishmael Smith, and DeMarre Carroll. The missing link, Carroll, would have put the Grizzlies above the 15 limit.
The Cavaliers waived Leon Powe, clearing room for Semih Erden and Luke Harangody.
The Celtics signed Chris Johnson on a 10 day contract from the D-League's Dakota Wizards in order to have 9 available players tonight.

jmmontoro, thanks for the info.

Meanwhile, former UConn forward Jeff Adrien has agreed to a contract to return to the Golden State Warriors, according to a source.

Re: Deadline Trades

Fri Feb 25, 2011 2:20 pm

NOOO Derrick Brown got cut!

ish smith is tight too. wonder if he'll get any play time as the 4th PG in memphis

on tnt they brought up a good point that with Melo moving east they need someone at the 3 spot to defend him (which explains them going after Battier, Parker) and Wafer wasn't going to cut it.

Lamrock wrote:Wish Portland could have gotten Thabeast

why? so they can have two over-hyped big men on the team instead of one?

Re: Deadline Trades

Fri Feb 25, 2011 3:06 pm

Surprising to see the Celtics so active at the deadline when they've got the second best record in the league, but I'm inclined to agree with the suggestion making the rounds that they're looking to pick someone up off waivers following all the deadline deals. Still, do they need Troy Murphy more than they need Kendrick Perkins? Hopefully the Celtics, Ainge has something else up his sleeve as I didn't think the Celtics needed to tinker at this point.

Rockets/Grizzlies deal...guess they really were desperate to bring in another big man. Thabeet has a lot of potential but it still a long way from realising it. They've given up a solid veteran in Battier, short term I think the Grizzlies got the better end of the deal but I believe he's a free agent this coming offseason so not a bad move for Houston to get a first round pick and a big man with potential out of him before he possibly walks.

I like the Brooks/Dragic swap a bit for the Suns more than the Rockets but it's not too lopsided. I'd say that's another deal that's more about running a player out of town while still getting a decent one in return and from the Suns' perspective, trying to shake things up by moving a player who has been underperforming a bit. Another decent trade there.

Hawks and Wizards...seems like another deal for the sake of making a deal, glancing at the salaries neither team is that much better off financially and I'm guessing neither is going to do that much better on the court for the remainder of the season. It's not a bad trade, more of a "let's shake things up and see if it works better" kind of deal in my view. The Wizards aren't in a position to do much this season but the Hawks are still playoff bound at this point so it's their performance that will stand out; good, bad or pretty much the same. I could be way off here, but I reckon they'll do just as well as they would have done had they not made the deal.

The Bobcats' moves are geared towards rebuilding and as such, they're not bad. I believe everyone they got back is an expiring contract, so they've done the right thing as far as clearing cap space and shedding hefty deals is concerned.

Wallace is a great pick-up for the Blazers, the deal hurts them in the middle but I reckon they'll be able to make a strong push over the last quarter of the regular season.

Sean Marks traded again :(

This will be his 9th team (Knicks - only held his rights, Raptors, Heat, Spurs, Suns, Hornets, Wizards, Blazers & now Bobcats). Don't think I've missed anybody.

Aside from that, I liked Paul Pierce's quote after loss of Perkins:

"I hate to lose a teammate like Perkins," Pierce said. "He meant so much. People don't understand chemistry is from the bus to the plane to the locker room, so it's definitely a blow. It depends on how the other guys make the adjustment."

Pierce also said this is an example of how the ruthlessness of the NBA cuts both ways.

"It's the nature of the business," he said. "People thought LeBron James was cold for leaving Cleveland the way it is. This is an example of how it happens on the management end. You can't get mad at the players because it can happen to them unexpectedly, just like a player can go where he wants. It's just the nature of the beast."

Can't argue with him there. You treat a player like a commodity, expect the same in return (Y)

Bobcats should've kept McGuire, i knew it, i knew it, i knew it, i knew that the cavs would waive Leon Powe. This gives cleveland how many picks for 2011 draft? I mean how many 1st rounders? Boston? Do you want to get Leon Powe back?

Idk why Boston traded Perkins. Nate for only Jeff Green it cold be a good trade, they didn't needed to trade Perkins.
