I reckon it's a good signing for Boston if Sheed is really not coming back, they bet on at least one of the O'neals to play decent basketball

It would have been nice seeing him in Orlando for the vet-min, Shaq being retired in Magic jersey is a very nice closure to his career (and that's coming from a Lakers hater). He could have fooled around with Dwight, mentoring him and possibly helping Orlando winning their first championship, something he was unable to do the first time around, but I guess he's got too much ego for that..

From another prospective, nobody is talking about Shaq, being a Lakers future HOF, going to sign (and possibly retire) in a Celtics jersey!!
Do you remember somebody, preferably not a scrub, who played in both Lakers and Celtics?

BTW, too bad Sheed is still under contact for the Celtics, I would have loved for him to come to Orlando where he could knock down 3s and add some toughness to the front court.

Rick Fox.

He retired, he's not going to play again, he just didn't file his papers so the Celtics can trade his contract for something ala Keith Van Horn and Aaron McKie.

Rondo was drafted in 06, so you can't really compare these teams back than.

Taken what I've said above, I'm not sure that any team with younger Allen and Pierce along with prime KG and Shaq would not be instant champs.

i never expected this one. i figured either LA or Miami.... this seems like kind of a dick move. You never would have seen Kareem or Wilt go to the Celtics. i think this tarnishes his legacy in LA.

From a regular fans point of view, as Ben said, who cares...they have to do what pleases them (a la Lebron to Miami), but that doesnt mean I cant think he's a bitch.

I have the same freedom to think as I want to.

And that means...what? It affects what he accomplished during his time there how?

Are the Laker fans going to disown those titles due to his "betrayal" and "dick move"? Because they might want to consider two things:
1. The Lakers-Celtics rivalry while Shaq was there was so unfairly one-sided it was more like an amusing historical fact to look back on rather than a serious current rivalry.
2. The Lakers dumped Shaq first. Now he's dating their old elementary school rival who've they just met again in college, and they're upset about that? (And they're totally defensive about their current boyfriend and must protect him at all costs against even valid criticism!)

This legacy thing is so stupid, it's short hand for "I have nothing relevant to say about ACTUAL BASKETBALL so I am going to project MY feelings onto everyone else and claim it diminishes HIS legacy because I'm upset about this!" Then we can all scream at each other about this abstract concept we're pretending is an objective opinion held by all in the collective until we take up all the time in the B block or write enough words to fill our requirement. It's the same exact thing in political reporting where instead of telling you what the fucking legislation is going to fuck up all they do is talk about "do they have the votes? will this person vote for it? who is in favor and opposed? this person says it's this and this person says it's that!" or "how will this impact the election/polls/my cock?"

You want to talk about your feelings, be like Jackal and talk about YOUR feelings, don't try to ascribe them as meaning anything in some kind of "grand narrative of the universe" (aka MY OPINION) floating out there in the ether that truly describes reality.

NO I WILL NOT LET THIS GO.

Shaq always has bashed on former team whenever he was leaving. He even slammed Wade to the ground last time they played each other, sorta like making a statement. Most Heat fans don't like him now, I guess almost same goes for most of PHX, LAL, and CLE fans. Oh well... he has never been a classy guy anyways but that's the Shaq I always enjoyed watching. Good luck to you, big fella.

So what effect will this bring to the Celtics. Now instead of big 3, they have the big 5. I think this Shaq will fit in very well in Celtic's grind out ball game. Shaq on the transition is quite slow, but this is the team that enjoys half-court b-ball anyways. With him in the middle, I am starting to think the real threat might be the Celtics, not the Magic or Heat from East. Isn't Shaq the type of guy that can help versus Lakers, Heat and Orlando, especially in situations like game 7 versus the Lakers(like in the last Finals).

Yeah, thank goodness the Celtics are aging fast. Nonetheless, nasty looking roster to me.

Forget it. I think just two of those in their prime together would rape all opposition 5 years ago. KG and Shaq would be one crazy front court if Shaq wasn't the oldest person in the NBA and KG wasn't 34 years old.

The Celtics have trumpeted Shaquille O'Neal as "The Big Shamrock" after signing him to a two-year contract, but the center is still taking suggestions for a new nickname.

O'Neal wrote the following on his Twitter page: "hello green town. ok what u got 4 nicknames? make um good."

He has been known as "Shaq-Daddy," "The Big Shaqtus" in Phoenix and "The Big Witness" in Cleveland.

In a variety of polls, "The Big Shamrock" and "The Big Leprechaun" are leading the way along with "The Green Monster."

Also receiving votes: "The Jolly Green Giant," "The Shamroq," "Red Auershaq," "Shaqachusetts" and "Tip-in O'Neal."

that's the fun part with shaq, the nick naming process
