Jeff Van Gundy said he wanted to "congratulate Orlando with replacing Turkoglu with a better player." :!:

I found it highly remarkable. I wonder what's between the lines there...

Not just an objective journalistic observation I'd say... :cheeky:

Van Gundy and Jackson struggled throughout the Finals to remain objective, so it's not surprising.

i for one am very excited to see VC in orlando. orlando was one of my favorite teams this year, Howard is a new favorite and Carter has been one of my top 5 since he came into the league. i am stoked. also stoked about Shaq in Cleveland. i know what teams im using in nba live 10, LAL, BOS, MIA, CLE, ORL

Do you even watch Carter play? One of the best aspects of Carter is his ability to pass the ball.

lived in new jersey almost my whole life and been to many nets games in that span to the point where i know that carter is all about creating his own shot.

Carter is capable of creating his own shot, which explains how he honed his passing ability because of the constant double teams he received in the past. He's honestly one of the best passing 2 guards in the game right now. If anything, many New Jersey fans have felt that Carter plays too passively at times and is not willing to dominate the ball as much as he needs to. The one thing I do fear is that Carter will become even more reliant from shooting it from the perimeter in a system that is dependent on wing players knocking down threes.

I think he'll probably take more shots from outside, but if you look at the way Pietrus plays I can see him combining that with attacking the rim regularly. Always standing at the line but when the lane is open he goes.

One thing I like about the trade is that Vince is from Florida and an Orlando resident and said he really wanted to play for the Magic. It might be a bit sentimental but I like that, it can have a positive effect I think. Like Derrick Rose & LeBron James playing for their home teams, it's nice.

Still think re-signing Turkoglu or not will make a big difference.
If not I feel they need more added talent (experience?) to be as competitive as the past season.

I'm really curious what he'll do..
I don't expect him to go for the biggest contract and not take quality and competitiveness in consideration.
He's had the luxury of playing with too many good teams way too long to be happy with losing 50 games for a couple of dollars more doesn't he?

To me, this deal is kind of like San Antonio's acquisition of Richard Jefferson. It looks pretty nice on paper but this is the same Vince Carter that has been criticised for being injury prone (not so much these days), quitting on a team, at times being selfish or at least having a poor shot selection and lacking defensively. It's a pretty big turnaround to tout him as the player who's going to make all the difference in Orlando. That's not to say he won't, or can't. Like the Jefferson trade, I'm just skeptical.

these criticisms are outdated.. aside from the defense. defense was never his forte. if you watched him this past season, as asdf was saying, he was a "team" player... to the point where he was then being criticized for not being aggressive enough (go figure lol). when harris was injured, Carter became the point guard and deferred to his teammates.. sometimes even late in games.

i think carter is a good fit as opposed to jefferson being a good fit in SAS because Carter is a threat from the downtown and can create shots for himself & his teammates... similar to what turkoglu was doing the last few years

i've heard orlando is interested in Rasheed Wallace....

If they get him it's really goodbye Turkoglu then.

C - Howard
PF - Wallace
SF - Lewis
SG - Carter
PG - Nelson

Pietrus.

Other than Pietrus, their bench is still in question. Gortat is probably gone too.

Agreed. And perhaps a Nelson-Carter showdown will definitely eat up the team.

Funny how the photos cover up VC's jersey (that has no number as of yet):

And their roster list as of now, still has Hedo and Gortat in.

Fair enough, I didn't get to see any Nets game this season. At least, I can't remember any being shown here and the only games I watch online are Bulls games.

It's really funny, I was reading on a Cavs forum how they are all psyched about how they match-up better against Orlando now because Delonte West supposedly can defend Carter but not Turkoglu and how they were making fun off Orlando-fans who were totally psyched about how much better their team has become which they had read on another forum. :D

I still don't get this trade. I mean, Orlando, reached the Finals last season. And now they're saying goodbye to one of the core players that made it possible (two including Lee). I think that if a team wants to make a solid championship run, the core players should be kept together. For example: San Antonio.

if lee makes a layup or hedo a free throw maybe they are champs. hmm on second thought maybe letting hedo go is a good thing lol. seriously though i dont think it was orlando saying bye to hedo, i think hedo is saying so long to them

Hedo wants $10+ million a year for five years. Look at his numbers. Is that a player worth $10 million a year?

Carter shoots the same from everywhere, rebounds the same, assists the same (actually slightly better) while getting more steals/blocks and turning it over a third less. And he only has two years left on his contract.

The problem isn't losing Turkoglu, the problem was losing the bench depth provided by Lee and Alston. (And Gortat?) But they may be able to add some cheap veterans wanting a title to make up for it. Along with the fact that Cleveland got better, and Boston will be healthy.

What... is your point? Are you trying to justify that Carter's actions can be dismissed because he's a Christian?

I still dont understand why they traded Lee away. Trading Alston make sense because they have Nelson, who plays better and is also younger, but Lee?

I know, but didn't they trade Alston, Lee and Battie to the Nets for Carter and Anderson? What I said was I dont understand why they included Lee in the trade.
