It seems that they will look like the Bobcats. And the logo seems that was made by a 5 year old kid :S

Really disappointed

I agree..... the orange color doesn't have a connection with the word thunder at all....

If this is their primary color maybe their jersey will be White (home) and Orange (away).....

They just use the old bobcats color.....

wow, worse than i expected. looks like a Dleague/WNBA team. the logo itself looks like the New York Liberty and the THunder on top looks like generic lettering found on the back of a jersey. plus the colors scream Denver Nuggets and the Warriors' mascot is named THunder. thank you Clay Bennett.

The Denver Nuggets mascot's name is Rocky not Thunder...

He was talking about the Warriors mascot. Read.

Somebody should have told them that you're supposed to emphasize the nickname, not the initials of the city.

Thu Sep 04, 2008 2:48 pm

I wonder what kind of feedback they got from the fans in OKC, I can't imagine anyone looking at this logo and saying "hell yeah, I'm going right out and buying a THUNDER jersey!!!". This is the stupidest logo in all of sports, even WNBA logos are better, it's a shame that the Seattle franchise was taken away and now we are stuck with this peice of crap, maybe Bennett designed this himself, while he was drunk.

Thu Sep 04, 2008 4:05 pm

HAHAHA what a joke. Look at the front page to their webiste. http://www.nba.com/thunder/

The best picture they can get is Damien Wilkins giving an "Ah Fuck, Oklahoma" look?

Thu Sep 04, 2008 5:42 pm

That logo is garbage. They name a team thunder and dont even incorporate a design with the logo to go with the name. Not to mention the logo looks bland, like someone with 1 month experience with paint shop pro did it in his basement. Man what the fuck is happening to the nba these days. Im starting to hate this league.

So I was wrong.

I bet you weren't the only one. I mean who would have thought they'd really pick such a shitty logo for their franchise?

Perhaps it's a byproduct of the move taking place in a very short space of time and a whole lot of details to work out, compared to the Hornets and Grizzlies who could get away with minor changes to their logos and jerseys and the proceedings weren't delayed by legal issues. Like I said, it wouldn't surprise me if they redesigned the logo sooner rather than later.

Hopefully they will get so much negative feedback that they'll change it like NOW!! Remember like 10 years ago when the NY Islanders had that stupid logo with the old fisherman and everyone hated it? Management was pressured into changing it after like 1 season, I hope this situation will be similar. What do people in OKC think? Do they like it?

Fri Sep 05, 2008 12:23 am

LOL @ the logo
My little sister would make a better logo than that.

No time to change it now but it could happen within a season. They could easily market the change as "celebrating the first year in Oklahoma City" rather than admitting the first logo wasn't fantastic and they've (presumably) come up with a better one having had a full year to design and prepare to implement it.

EDIT: Or, maybe not. Bennett: Thunder Logo Is 'Classic'

What the hell does a beautiful sun have to do with Thunder or the NBA? Too much Oklahoma, not enough basketball.

here is my opinion only. The logo and the name seems so unprofessional to me. The logo looks like a D league, I think it will take a huge amount of time for me to get use to it. Even an animal logo would be better.

Fri Sep 05, 2008 12:45 pm

I still don't think it looks unprofessional or bad per se, just very plain and generic. That's still not good but it's a fairly clean design, it's just a bit uninspired and has very little to do with the team name except the inclusion of the word "Thunder".

Fri Sep 05, 2008 1:00 pm

Someone can probably shit a better logo than the one OKC has.

Bennet's description is even worse:

http://newsok.com/bennett-thunder-logo-is-classic/article/3292623

“We think the logo is classic in its style,” said team chairman Clay Bennett. “We think it's powerful in its design. We think it evokes energy. We think the word Thunder is displayed with simplicity and dignity. And the colors represent much about Oklahoma.

“Our primary color blue is the color of our state flag. This is very much an Oklahoma organization. The sunset is red and orange. Not too red. Not too orange. And the beautiful sun is reflected by yellow.”

Fri Sep 05, 2008 2:32 pm

Energy? Powerful?

Wheree? I was looking the logo for 3 hours and I still can't find it

Fri Sep 05, 2008 6:22 pm

Well, it is not that great but ok although it does look like a soft-drink as someone already said.

What do you expect? Possibilities are rather limited. A logo could be an animal but do we need another one? Wolves, grizzlies, hawks...logos are either related to animals, fantasy themes, the team's city or natural forces. If the logo depicted a thunderstorm using black and dark blue if would be a bit similar to the Magic or Tampa Bay Lightning. Resemblance is almost unavoidable.

If I had to design the logo I would go for a fantasy creature with a body full of thunder, lightning, stormclouds etc. ... and this creature would carry a symbol of the city or have the city's background behind it like the old Sonics logo.

What about a fantasy logo contest? :)

Sat Sep 06, 2008 2:04 am

I'm not good doing fantasy logos and photoshop...

Can I be a Judge? :D

Wrong. The picture is of Desmond Mason and he played 4 years of college ball up the road at Oklahoma State. From what I've gathered from interviews I've read in the past with Mason, he actually likes Oklahoma. Nice job at trying to make fun of the team though.

As far as the logo is concerned, I think it could be done a lot better. It is simple, as Andrew said, but they didn't have a lot of time. I hope there will be a redesign in a year or 2. This could just be the brainchild of unartistic Oklahomans though. If you look at the logos of our sports teams in the state, they are very unimaginative. The University of Oklahoma has had the same logo since the 40's. Oklahoma State University tries but still comes up with the basic big O with STATE in it. The Oklahoma Redhawks logo is just boring, and the Oklahoma City Blazers just can't seem to get it right either.

Sat Sep 06, 2008 6:17 am

they must have changed the picture. i do recall it was a picture of Damien Wilkins looking disappointed on the left and Desmond Mason looking a little happier on the right.

Everything is crappy: the name, the logo and the colors too.
