Maybe not, but it sure didn't look that way in the Finals...

Funny to see him start bragging after winning a championship.... I guess then I can consider Manu the best player on Earth because he's been to multiple NBA finals, won in international competitions, and has 3 rings.... And I agree with Andrew, if your gonna brag, don't brag like a pussy

seems like andrew always makes a good point.
just wondering where sauru is in this nice boston related thread.

But skill isn't really an absolute reference to be considered as the best.

touche
for me, many people consider Kobe the best player in the World....he outplayed Kobe & to a certain degree, shut him down & took him out of his comfort zone....and he was playing injured too, as was Kobe....so that excuse can't be used either side....as at the end of last season's Finals, Paul Pierce was a better player than the best player in the World, therefore you could surmise at that point in time, The Truth had now become the best player in the World....
obviously I don't think this is the case, but you could see how he would come to this conclusion....this will all sort itself out during the regular season, so not to worry....

But Pierce wasn't going against the Celtics, he was going against the Lakers. There's a significant difference there.

pierce outplayed kobe in the finals, but kobe was the best player in the nba in the regular season and in the playoffs, just untill the finals. pierce was nowhere near the best till then. so that's sorta stupid of ppl to be saying pierce > kobe.
ultimately, imo, 4(won) games against the lakers in the finals, still isn't enuf for him to be saying that.

The only way Pierce becomes the best player in the world is if Kevin Garnett suffers a freak injury and he still leads them to the promised land.... Then I'll eat my words

I'd say Pierce has held this belief long before the Celtics won the championship and he collected Finals MVP honours and if so, good for him. That's the confidence that he was talking about and it obviously helps him in the league. But it was a funny remark to make since claiming not to be conceited, if anything, makes him sound more conceited. I'm sure most of the top players in the league feel they are the best and that's fair enough. But if you're going to come out and say it, don't say you're not boasting.

THE "BEST PLAYER" IN THE WORLD.
Las Vegas police Officer Sam Cassell said Monday that Pierce was handcuffed briefly after emerging “a little agitated” from a vehicle he was driving around 3 a.m. Sunday.
Sex/rape related cases are better than this..so Kobe's still better.

Uh...how?

So off-the-court crimes and misdemeanours are a measure of a player's basketball ability now?

I've been cuffed before, it doesn't mean shit....it usually means the cop has nothing better to do....besides, everyone gets riled from time to time....

And it certainly doesn't say anything about you as a basketball player.

I remember when Arenas wrote a same manner of being the best in one of his blogs. I guess both of them have their experience and accomplishments to support their statements...
Actually there was nothing to carry, Ray Ray looked like he wasn't in the playoffs until the conference finals and Garnett would never struggle on home games(they almost won all of them), so what if Pierce carried the team on road games, they still pretty much lost them.

Pierce had a better team than the Lakers, even from the start of the season they are already the favorite to win the title. The Lakers on the other hand is just a playoff contender team, Kobe's unselfishness this season, Bynums improvement and Gasol's arrival made them a championship contender.
If Pierce is the best why can't he lead his team to the playoffs before this year, Kobe has taken his team to the playoffs in the ultra competetive west and so is Lebron. I think his good but not that good!

Pierce has taken his team to the Playoffs before, though that doesn't prove his claim.
