I agree with you. I hate watching Kobe for god sake. For me he is the great definition of a ball-hog. I know there are Wade and Lebron who are ball-hogs but at least they pass the ball in every possession and they are great passers. Kobe just can't win a title if there is no great big men in his team
Since Jordan was winning aint nobody winning a title without a great bigman on there team

as for the question at hand back wen walker was on my heat he was definitely the player for me and now its definitely been odom and for me

TJ Ford is verry annoying. Watch out Pacer fans, you'll see how TJ thinks he can school a team by jacking up shots. Calderon deserved to stay in Toronto

Dei,
LeBron, a "ball hog"? hardly. How can a guy who averaged 7 or 8 assists last year be considered a ball hog?
As for Wade, if he had players who could score points and shoot better, then maybe he wouldn't feel pressured to take as many shots or handle the ball as much.

Then Oden, Aldridge, or Frye, none of them are athletes, they are just tall too.
By your indisputable opinion, what is an athlete then?

How is ave. 30 ppg not a ball hog? Just watch the cavs and see it yourself. There's not single possession that LeBron not getting the ball.

Well, consider that he has 8 assists to go with his 30 points, and that his teammates are utter dogshit.

When someone is the most physically gifted basketball player in the world a coach normally plans on putting the ball in his hands every time down court... LeBron does always have the ball, but if he didn't touch it every time down the Cavs would be no good.
Now Jamal Crawford? That's a ball hog.
Tue Jul 15, 2008 2:01 pm
Same thing should be with Kobe then.
Tue Jul 15, 2008 2:11 pm
No... If a guy is the best at what he does, then you let him do it. Its idiotic to say that letting your best players have the ball the most is a ball hog. In an NBA game never do I want to see Eric Snow or Sasha Pavlovic touching the bal more then LeBron.
You keep saying a "ball-hog". A ball hog is that guy at the gym who always wants to play 3 on 3, but when your on his team he just puts his blinders on and shoots. The Kobes, LeBrons, and McGradys do score alot of points, but they also look to get their team mates shots too, since their such good scorers the defense shades off on to them and opens up shots for their team mates.
It's simple, basic, basketball knowledge and obviously you lack that.
Tue Jul 15, 2008 3:29 pm
Yeah man, if you think i lack that knowledge then fine lol. You misunderstood what I said about kobe though. One guy stated that Kobe is definition of ball hog and then someone brings up LeBron is not a ball hog just because he has 7~8 assist and Kobe is a ball hog cos he has less. Fanny that you thought I actually meant it lawl.

I took stabs at "ballhog" and its counterpart "bailout" stats a while back.
Ballhog% = % of teams misses in the first ten seconds of the shot clock.
Bailout% = % of teams unassisted makes in the last three seconds of the shot clock.
I don't feel like constructing a table, so apologies...players with at least 1000 minutes. First ballhog%:

Averaging 30 ppg doesn't necessarily indicate a player is a ballhog. It's more the manner in which a player scores his points and his tendency to share the ball with his teammates (or not share it, as the case may be). In that respect, even someone averaging a more modest 20 ppg can still be a ballhog. No matter what level you're talking about, when you watch those players you know that nearly every time they get the ball, the only way it's leaving their hands is via a shot attempt.
Jannero Pargo is a good example of that. The option of setting up a teammate seems like it's an afterthought to him as he's looking to score pretty much every time he touches the ball in the frontcourt. It's obvious the stats reflect that as well since he cracks the top ten in the list Ben posted.
Tue Jul 15, 2008 8:17 pm
A list:
-Earl Barron
-Mark Blount
-Jason Williams
-Dorell Wright
I mean, Barron and Blount is stupid. Pass the ball to Blount, and you've lost that possesion. Barron does something, but its nearly anything. Williams on the other hand used to be good, but it have been all downslope since he came to Miami. And poor Wright. Falling in to the rookie-trap of Riles. He never became the SF everyone thought he would be. Miami shouldnt have drafted him so early, and Dorell should have waited til after college... But Im pretty sure that if we trade him now, he will unleash on another team, just as Odom, Alston and Caron Butler...

Well, Shaq really didnt do much for the HEAT in the finals. He was a force in regular season, 1st round til ECF, but in the finals Zo took over. After 06 Shaq was just a disaster.
And as for Kobe. I have to respect him for being so damn good, and I dont wanna call him a ballhog because just like Cleveland and Miami, the pieces around their stars kinda sucks. There's one part of Kobe I do hate. There's one part of Wade I do hate.

THE DAMN IGNORANT BANDWAGON ASS-FANS

... Sorry, I just had to get it out....

Didn't they win the West in both the regular season and playoffs? (And aren't the Cavaliers and Heat the last two Finals representatives from the East?)

how did pieces around kobe suck? before the finals, ppl praised how good lakers bench was and how good gasol, odom, fisher was and after the final, ppl start saying it's one man team all over again. lol
pieces around kobe is in fact superb. u look at other nba teams, and will find not too many better supporting casts than kobe has.

Jorge Garbajosa in 06-07. Every home game our team would be active and TJ would pass the ball to him wide open and he just throws up a brick completely ruining whatever momentum we would have gained.
Wed Jul 16, 2008 12:33 pm
I wouldn't say so. His jumper faded as the season progressed, but I think it was more a matter of his shot looking insanely flat and ugly all the time than actually missing. His game wasn't the prettiest I have to admit, but the fans loved the grit and Jorge did what was needed to be done on the court. His injury was probably one of the reasons for the Raptors' disappointing 07-07 season.

The Lakers bench is horrible
Turiaf is a pure hustle guy. Gets rebound by trying hard. No jump shot.
Radmanovic is takes the most random shots ive ever seen
The Machine is shoots way to much and is only good when he is hot. Super overrated defense, always gets blown by
Walton has is just a system player that is afraid to shoot the ball
Outside of Farmar the bench can be so much better

the thing is some guys on lakers' bench would well become starters in some teams in nba atm.
what i meant btw was that pieces around kobe were more than ok, and #1 record in tough western conf. was the proof. ofc, kobe was the key man but teammates like odom, gasol, & fisher shouldn't be underappreciated. even if the team was w/o kobe, the team is still likely to be a playoff spot contender.
