Right...
Kevin Garnett
Tim Duncan
Amare Stoudemire
Dirk Nowitzki
Chris Bosh
There's five off the top of my head.
Benji, I guess I could make a cute chart like that too.
I think I'd include their assists per game, steals per game, blocks per game, and their age.
I think it'd look a little different then.
I would take Brand over Amare, Dirk or Bosh. Brand is a more complete player than any of those guys.
Amare gets more easy dunks and layups than any player in the league. Dirk is too one dimensional to be better than Elton, and there isn't even an argument when it comes to Bosh.
Boozer is the poor man's version of Elton Brand except without the defense, so I'm pretty convinced you just have no idea what you're talking about.
Anyways, Philly gave Detroit a hell of a run for their money last year with Reggie Evans as their main threat inside. With Elton as their anchor and the rest of their youngsters continuing to improve I think they are now better than Detroit and should win 50 games next year.
They have certainly passed Atlanta as the most promising young team in the East.

True, Brand is such an amazing defensive presence, he doesn't necessarily do what's easy to notice, like Tim Duncan, but he still has a great impact in the paint. I've seen him play at the Staples before he got injured and he's just a monster.

If you say so.

I doubt that airBerlin has ever seen Brand play.
Thu Jul 10, 2008 7:06 am
Yeah, you're right. I'm totally clueless.
Thu Jul 10, 2008 7:34 am
We know.
Thu Jul 10, 2008 8:29 am
I read it's pretty much a done deal.
I would never wish for anybody to get hurt, but Brand can go rupture another achilles. Oh well, there is always Baron, Thornton, and Kaman.
I'm not to up to date on the salary cap spaces, but are there any other teams that could sign Baron Davis if he didn't want to sign with the Clippers?
Thu Jul 10, 2008 8:34 am
The Warriors could sign him.
Thu Jul 10, 2008 8:49 am
yeah I heard a rumour that Davis canceled his Clippers press conference so that might mean that he is going to look for more playoff bound teams
Thu Jul 10, 2008 9:02 am
Well,
it's official.
After the Warriors landed Maggette, I won't be surprised if Baron tries to get back to the Bay Area.

...and pdub cries a single tear.
ps: its funny to me that this jersey he is wearing is the same colors as his former team.
Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:21 am
Happy for the Sixers...Now, they only need to find a decent 3-point shooter...
Btw, is that going to be the jerseys of the sixers this season? Or is it just one of those anniversary hardwood classics jerseys?

Yeah, but nobody cares about things that don't win basketball games. Shooting, not turning it over, grabbing offensive rebounds and getting to the line wins basketball games. Swatting shots in the crowd and passing to teammates before they score doesn't have much effect on the outcome.
People who want to win games go for Elton Brand. People who want to make highlight reels go for Josh Smith.
Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:44 am
Yes! I told you guys he would be a Sixer.
Pdub, you can suck my Chilean dick

Care to explain why Josh Smith would've been better for this team? What they needed was a low-post scorer, or a long range threat. Josh Smith is neither of those, Elton Brand covers one of their needs. It's really simple actually.

I hope they go back to those jerseys because the ones they used last season were buns.

I admit I like that jersey better, but if they change to those they are gonna be yet ANOTHER team using red and blue....

Brand is a great player and is a key addition to this team.. They can be a great team but still far from being contenders.. You wouldn't blame the sixers for signing brand to a mult-year deal worth 82 million, why would you pass up a dominating presence both on the offensive and defensive end.. A couple of reasons why I think they can't compete as contenders (eventhough they belong in a very weak eastern conference) for this season, it's because wouldn't get that much help even if he's healthy. Iguodala is not yet in his all star peak, I know he's a great player, and he'll be an all-star, he's an all-around player who contributes the intangibles, but now, he is still considered a second option, his outside scoring hasn't been proven yet, and the best word is inconsistency (1st round 2008 playoffs versus Detroit).. Another reason, they are not a good outside shooting team, so opposing teams can double up Brand anytime they want without any shooter killing them from the outside.. They are also weak at the shooting guard position.. I like willie green but I think he's more of a reserve than being of a starter, and he's not known for his defense. They could slide Iguodala at the 2 spot and insert their young athletic forward, Thaddeus Young at the small forward spot.. But again, with that size, they are not a proven outside shooting team.. They have a great bench players which could be x-factors in the game, Lou Williams, Reggie Evans, Jason Smith, Shavlik Randolph, a nice bench but as of now, they can't compete with other team's bench, particularly bench with experience. the team also doesn't have a wing defender who can guard the opposing team's scorers. Defense will always win games and championships. They don't have the Bowen-type player, or the Raja Bell-type player, or Posey-type player. i believe every team should have that one wing defender who can defend the opposing team's leading scorer.
But who knows, a lot of crazy things happen in the NBA. I just think this is not their year. maybe 2,3, years from now, they will be a force in the East. If they could add another star this 2010, maybe they'll win a championship.
Thu Jul 10, 2008 4:00 pm
Maybe they will use them for their anniversary year... and I like it... it's simple but represents the 76ers
Thu Jul 10, 2008 4:52 pm
should win 50 games next year.
Indeed. Just like the Pacers.
- Code:
Player MPG iguodala,andre 38.5 miller,andre 36.1 dalembert,samuel 33.7 green,willie 21.7 evans,reggie 19.3 williams,louis 19.3 young,thaddeus 28.9 smith,jason 7.2 brand,elton* 36.1
*2006-07
Comes out to 48-52 wins. Same with Josh Smith replacing Brand comes out at 37-40 wins. Willie Green is a major weakpoint for the team. Taking five minutes from him for Young would improve them two wins by itself.
For the Sixers, Elton Brand rates out as 13-14 WAAW*, while Josh Smith is at 2 WAAW*.
*Wins above Antoine Walker.
Thu Jul 10, 2008 6:25 pm
WAAW is a great stat.
How anyone could not see that Smith is completely redundant with the team they have in Philly is beyond me.

I never said Josh Smith would be better for Philidelphia, actually I said the opposite. Here's what I said: "Well, in the Sixers case, I'd probably have chosen Brand as well. Just because they were lacking a big man, but in general... Josh Smith is the only way to go."
How anyone could not see that Smith is completely redundant with the team they have in Philly is beyond me.
How anyone could not read or understand very basic sentences is beyond me.
Thu Jul 10, 2008 7:04 pm
what do u mean by saying but in general josh smith is the way to go..... you kinda contradict urself by saying u would choose brand over smith but smith is the only way to go....
Thu Jul 10, 2008 7:51 pm
Not really... In Phildelphia's case, I would choose Elton Brand. They don't need Josh Smith, they have Iguodala. They needed a power forward. However, say they didn't have Iguodala. Say their starting five were Dalembert, Evans, Young, Green, and Miller, or something... Then yes, if I had a choice, I'd choose Josh Smith over Elton Brand.
Thu Jul 10, 2008 8:51 pm
Josh Smith is an undersized PF.. He is not a proven scorer and still needs to develop.. He's a great player, and he'll even be better.. But why would you pass up a big guy who can defend well and also score on the offensive end.. If they weren't able to get Brand, they could also land Josh Smith because Andre could slide to SG.. But again, it's the PF position that's really missing for them, it's that inside presence..
Thu Jul 10, 2008 9:12 pm
I don't know why people are saying he can't score.
