this i agree with, going for shaq was nothing more than a desperate attempt to change a team just cause everyone else was

It would only be worth the gamble if they had success in the playoffs. They didn't. The gamble didn't pay off.

^ The Suns thought it would be worth the gamble, because they can't predict the future, and they thought adding Shaq would lead them to a potential championship. Like you said, it didn't pay off, but they were desperate enough to try a last effort, even if it meant sacrificing their future for a "win-now" situation.

So? I'm pretty sure all trades are made with the intention for their teams to get better. And if Kerr didn't make that trade they wouldn't have to be in a last try situation. He fucked up badly. Just because he's likable doesn't make him any better then Isiah.

well.... the biggest mistakes the suns made were getting hip checked by rob horry, trading away all their draft picks for cash or nothing, and signing marcus banks to a 24mil dollar contract when they could have drafted rondo and payed him 1/4th of that in that order.... oh yeah, trading away kurt thomas also goes in with the boneheaded moves.... sarver is just a cheapskate, no other way to say it..... a combination of these bad decisions (or luck) forced them to pull the trigger on the shaq trade and it blew up in their faces.... but it's not like miami got into the playoffs either so oh well.....
PPL r a little feisty these days:D

Defense is not just a mindset, you need the right pieces to be a good defensive team. Shaq is a good defender but he's not what Shawn Marion is. Steve Nash is a weak defender and Amare has significant lapses in concentration in games.
