Mmm, that wouldn't be terrible, but I'd rather we trade Randolph and get Oden at #1.
Wed May 23, 2007 12:07 pm
That would be hilarious if the Blazers didn't pick Oden. It would be like passing on Jordan all over again.

Agreed. I don't even see how you can think of passing on Oden.
Zach Randolph is injury prone and overweight, Oden and Aldridge are going to be a monster backcourt for years to come. Randolph could become trade bait for a good point guard eventually.

That would make a lot of sense. Seattle needs a center more than a SF, and a SF would be a nice fit in Portland. Either way, both teams futures have just got a hell of a lot brighter.

i gotta disagree here. what if passing on durant cause oden is a big is like passing on jordan? nothing is set in stone that oden will be a better player than durant. i still think that durant could easily be the better of the 2 in the long run. so i think if they could get durant and some future picks instead of just oden i personally think it would help them out. i guess we wont be able to tell for sure for about 10 years or so though

Portland did great in last year's draft
+ they have a few promising pieces..
Aldridge, Roy, Zbo, Durant/Oden...
+ They have good role players in Jack, Udoka, Outlaw
In a year or 2, when they are really good, they could prob pick up some really good veterans and be a contender..
However, i would go with trading down and getting Durant and something else from Seattle.. or swapping a player or something to improve their dream...

I don't buy the Oden to Jordan comparisons. People have been dick riding him ever since high school, but he wasn't
that impressive.
Drafting Oden completely negates drafting Aldridge last year, who imo is going to be a really solid player.
Low post defenders are becoming less and less of a necesity. Tim Duncan is the only player I can think of who you would need a Greg Oden type player to defend, and he's over 30 and the Blazers won't be competing for a championship for awhile to come. Yao has been stopped with smaller athletic players.
Durant is a hybrid. He provides that offensive threat that the Blazers need. They were one of the worst offensive teams again last year at just 94 ppg. He fits their needs better than Oden who really hasn't shown himself to be that much better.
I like Sauru's idea of trading down. Seattle has been desperate for a low post player for the past 3 or 4 drafts, constantly wasting picks on bums with length. They could likely get a pick next year for trading down.
Shannon wrote:Zach Randolph is injury prone and overweight
and? He had the best season of his career last year. The Blazers have built their team around him already.
Wed May 23, 2007 4:31 pm
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Happiest NBA day for me in a while.
I prefer Kevin Durant over Greg Oden.
and Zach Randolph is a 20-10 player... I don't understand why people hate him so much.
Wed May 23, 2007 4:34 pm
I personally don't feel that Oden would 'negate' or 'cancel out' Aldridge. Nothing wrong with a starting lineup of Aldridge/Oden/Webster/Roy/Jack. Nothing at all.
I don't really feel that we've built anything around Randolph... growth happened last year but it wasn't a specific building plan. Pritchard just wants the best players available, regardless of position.
If Randolph is okay being the backup, good. If not, trade him... or hell, even release him. I don't care. We've got good cheap youth now.
Aldridge/Backup C (Not so sure Magloire will be back. Pryzbilla if healthy)
Oden/Randolph
Webster/Outlaw
Roy/Udoka
Jack/Rodriguez (or Blake if he comes back this summer)
This isn't even mentioning Fred Jones, Dan Dickau, or Raef Lafrentz, all of whom can/could contribute if healthy and/or motivated.
I completely disregard Darius Miles's existance, so just ignore him.
edit: I'm sleepy, I'm fully aware that oden can play center as well, most likely... he just seems more suited to the nba PF to me. <shrug> sleeeeep.
Wed May 23, 2007 5:53 pm
well, it is true that z-bo is a walking 20-10 guy, but, for the love of god, he averages 0.3blks per game in his career, 0.2 blks a game last season.. if you are 6-10 tall, and block shots like a freaking 5-10, it means that you are not even trying.. just a thought..
Wed May 23, 2007 6:08 pm
Oden would not completely negate the Aldridge pick because LaMarcus is a thin 6-11 and would be able to start at the 3 as well as slide to the 4 or 5 when Randolph or oden get tired. Honestly, I think this makes Randolph expendable so he might be involved in some trade rumors soon.
Wed May 23, 2007 6:33 pm
I am pumped about this! I really can't believe that we got the number 1 pick. Also it is completely unbelievable that Sonics got number 2 aswell!
I really don't want this to happen:
Blazers get- Sonics 2007 number 2 draft pick, Sonics 2008 first round draft pick.
Sonics get- Blazers 2007 number 1 draft pick.
^^The Blazers would be stupid to do that. You never know that could happen next season. The number 1 pick will be Oden, and I want Blazers to get him. He will be MVP one day(Durant could be aswell, but I have higher hopes for Oden). This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I hope they don't pass on Oden, like they passed on MJ all of those years ago.
Trade Randolph for a good SF, then have this Line-up:
Oden
Aldridge
SF from Randolph trade
Roy
Jack
Wed May 23, 2007 7:49 pm
Shoudn't they go for a star point guard first? Oden needs a very good floor leader to succeed imo. But then again, i really don't know much about Jack, since I didn't really start carring about the Blazers until last night - How good is he/could he get?
Wed May 23, 2007 7:51 pm
Low post defenders are becoming less and less of a necesity. Tim Duncan is the only player I can think of who you would need a Greg Oden type player to defend
True, but you still need a guy to anchor the defense.
Wed May 23, 2007 7:56 pm
grusom, When you have the 1st pick and the choice from Oden or Durant, you don't take a PG! Jack is ok, but we can do with better, but you cannot pass up on Oden and Durant. If Aaron Brooks is still availiable for our early second round pick, I think we should take him

Draft Oden, and trade randolph for Rashard Lewis. Works for both teams

It is good. But Sonics will still have no C. They could fill the void of SF with Durant. Works out really well for Blazers. Line-up will be:
Oden
Aldridge
Lewis
Roy
Jack(maybe Sergio later in the season if he plays well)
Wed May 23, 2007 8:14 pm
^ that would be a good idea.
and grusom, they were seriously considering starting Roy at PG last year until Jack stepped up and did pretty decent last year. he is a true point guard with a decent shot and good potential to be one of those veterans that stick around forever (a la Eric Snow, Jacque Vaughn, Anthony johnson, etc)
Wed May 23, 2007 8:17 pm
Sergio Rodriguez has a pretty decent handle of the game as well, and Dan Dickau can contribute at the point, too.

Yes but they are all shit. Petro is their best one, and he is terrible anyway. They could really do with Oden, but the Blazers will steal him from them!
Wed May 23, 2007 8:48 pm
I think that the blazers are in a difficult situation considering the two players who are the best players in the draft are a SF/C in which they both need so it really comes down to who is the better okayer and personally i think they will draft Oden and that will be great but i think Durant should be the one, he's a Tracy McGrady/Kobe Brynat type player and who wouldn't want them. They could then further develope Aldridge and Kepp Randolph so i side sumthing like this:
C-Aldridge
PF- Randolph
SF- Durant
SG- Roy
PG- Jack/Rodriguz
this in which a team who could do two years of developing and then contend playoffs if not the title
Although if they were thinking 3-4 years ahead i say draft oden because you can't tell me this line-up wouldn't contend playoffs in future
C- Oden
PF- Aldridge
SF- Webster/ Udoka
SG- Roy
PG- Jack/ Rodriguz

I refered to your "SF from Randolph trade"
Portland shouldn't even consider drafting anyone but Odom imo.
Wed May 23, 2007 10:10 pm
portland also has 3 2nd rounders this draft. Maybe they can send them all for a mid 1st rounder and draft a SF like Thaddeus Young. who knows
Wed May 23, 2007 10:12 pm
i still think people are too quick to say oden will be the better player. i think scoop is completly wrong saying it qwould be stupid to take that mock trade he made, though they could probably get 2-3 other first round picks for swapping with seattle. kinda like the webber/hardaway trade that happened. either way i think people are too sure oden will be the superior player. he will be the first pick, portland wont trade it away so dont worry about that, but i said it awhile back and i still feel it now, in the long run i bet durant proves to be the better player.
