So who does Portland give up for this firepower? They should have beaten the Conley-less grizzlies yesterday

McCollum seems to be the most expendable player right now. I still don't understand why they would draft another PG after getting Lillard. They must have went to the David Kahn school for GMs

They were hoping that lighting would strike twice drafting a scorching scorer from a lower tier school and that McCollum could be a backup combo guard.

Lamrock can correct me if I'm wrong.

CJ's a shooting guard. They bypassed MCW who's a PG for him. CJ was hyped in a year where nobody wanted a draft pick. Even the Cavaliers wanted to trade their #1 pick for something else but only ended up draft Anthony Bennett first overall. If they didn't want to draft something other than undersized athletically challenged SG or another PG, they could have drafted Steven Adams or Kelly Olynyk both of whom had less impressive pre-NBA resume. I mean one's a kiwi and the other's a canuck.

And you need to draft whom you think is the best player avail especially in the early round of draft, and not go by needs.

I am interested on what the success rate for teams drafting for need instead of best player available? Just 1st round

It's pretty bad outside the very top picks, the historical record of drafting centers between 6 and 12 is usually a disaster. Pistons somehow got lucky twice.

quoting from article from geeks:

most draft picks don't pan out. That includes top three picks. There's a funny aspect to the value of draft picks. Basically, rookie contracts are gold. First round picks have three separate options, as well as restricted free agency, and, of course, reduced pay. The value of this is that a team can try out young players and quickly "iterate" if they don't pan out. The only problem is that teams treat their draftees like guaranteed franchise players, and usually hold on to them far too long.

There's no real way to distinguish between drafting for needs and best player avail. Most don't pan out as expected. It's also extremely rare for rookies to instantly produce(+) so you can only hope it's Harden you're drafting not Otto Porter. But obviously you can still comically fuck up your dynasty team like OKC did even after drafting Hardon.

PS: Harden realizes it's an open season for MVP race. Damn, he's looking amazing, 45 POINTS gahhh

So what's the best way to rebuild if you're not a big market team?

I want to say to do it the way San Antonio did it. The right pieces, some fortune and luck, and ??????, then profit.

Brandon Jennings does great 24 pts 21 dishes on just 2 turnovers. First to do 20-20ast since Nash 2009. It's worth mentioning he's also been hot (along with Drum/Monroe) since Josh Smith left town. "Josh = team cancer" equation is proving to be more and more effective now days. Eventual return of Terrence Jones might kill whatever value he has left in his tank.

Also check out Russell Westbrook's buzzer beater. Was nice.

On the plus side, the Rockets won't have to pay him quite as much money if they cut him.

They're just 1 game behind 8th seed Nets and 1.5 games behind 7th seed Heat. Looks like the Bobcats have turned the table too, they're currently tied for 8th seed.

Bobcats and Pistons actually might take over Nets and Heat for last 2 playoffs berth. This didn't seem much possible just a month ago. Wow.

Hawks won 15 straight. Still flying under the radar, nobody notices em.

I don't think Klay Thompson should be an All-Star over Monta Ellis. I will go home and cry if Klay is over Monta.

Huh? How do you figure?

Re: Random NBA Discussion 2014-15 Season

Sat Jan 24, 2015 5:58 pm

Watching the game, I didn't know whether to smile at witnessing Klay do something so incredible, or be upset at how shitty my Kings are now that Malone's gone. Thompson shot from wherever he wanted and made every single attempt, regardless of if there was a hand in his face or not.

With Kobe not play in the All-Star game (not like he really deserved it anyway), there's no way Klay doesn't get in. The best team in the NBA should have two representatives and a performance like this just solidifies his case. Boogie should get in now too, but sad that Aldridge had to go down to help make that happen.
