you kidding me? he can block as well as anyone, but not if he's on inactive list!

Sadly, that's true. He can't contribute his game changing impact if he's on the injured list. It's really disheartening to see greatness diminished that way.

I figured you did, I was just posting a couple of things that showed him in a more dominant light to further the joke. ;)

It's like people don't even know he'd be third in the league in block percentage to Turiaf and Andersen if he got enough minutes. All this despite being born mentally handicapped.

Re: Miami Heat Thread

Mon Mar 30, 2009 3:31 pm

That'd be enough benji. Don't be tempted to post stats regarding the greatness of Joel Anthony.
I want the unenlightened to realize his valuable contribution to the Heat without the help of numbers, and know the great player that he is by hype and highlights alone (Thanks 'drew). Just the way other NBA stars came to be known.

Just look at Adonal Foyle returning to the Magic. There's a Google's worth of links pertaining to that damn Foyle's return to the game.
While nothing is written about the game changing impact of Joel Anthony and how he helps the Heat, but they would rather instead concentrate on how Jermaine O'Neal isn't contributing since being acquired by the Heat. Face it people Jermaine sucks now, and Foyle is nowhere near the potential of Joel Anthony.
Joel Anthony > Jermaine O'Neal & Adonal Foyle

Sorry for the rant. I just got too passionate about greatness being neglected like that.

You need to get over your backwards notion that players impact is only felt when they play. The lack of Joel Anthony highlights is a better illustration of his true value. When Wade looks over to the bench and sees him sitting there he gets inspired to blow past his man and take it to the basket. When a shot goes up, and Haslem sees Joel, he is empowered to grab the rebound. When Erik Spoelstra looks down at the end of the bench and sees him, he feels the play he needs to call for the Heat to score. Because Joel is in their hearts, and is in all our hearts. Joel is our collective heart, the circulation that feeds our souls. Joel Anthony is life.

anthony is a card in the sleeve, he is a 5-th wheel for a Heat car, if some1 of the bigs goes down - he will be a solid help!

What you say is true as it is benji, but great players always strive to be out there on the floor. Like generals that wish to be out there with the troops against the advancing enemy frontline.

A good case would be Willis Reed. Not only did he inspired his teammates by showing up for that crucial game 7 even though he was injured, but he started and was on the court even if he only contributed two field goals. His teammates saw him in the arena and they felt confident, and then they felt that invincibility when Willis was on the floor playing with them.

Greatness doesn't only inspire and motivate from the sidelines. Joel Anthony wants to be with his teammates out there on the floor. Knowing well that with them complete as a unit on the hardwood, they are invincible. A time may come that his teammates might not know what to do in a situation and may end up like headless chickens running around the court (the way Jermaine O'Neal is playing right now). I don't want that to happen to the Heat. I don't want the great Joel Anthony's legacy be tainted because of having a weak team that collapses in the face of pressure.

Call this a rant or whatever, but Joel Anthony needs to play to solidify his dominance and show the greatness of teams he plays in.
I hope Jeffx doesn't kill me for just comparing Willis Reed to Joel Anthony.

Yes, Joel Anthony is a card in the sleeve. He's what you call an "ace in the sleeve". Sorry for Diddy's English.

Have you lost your mind Diddy from making babies with your wife? The Heat aren't no weak-ass car.
They're a fucking truck, and Joel Anthony is the engine of that truck. He's no disposable wheel.
Jeez Diddy, I thought you were a Heat fan.
Your ignorance is enough to force Pat Riley to impose his 4 hour practices again, if he was the Heat coach.

Wade: I'm Keeping My Options Open

Re: Miami Heat Thread

Thu Jun 18, 2009 12:57 am

He may not be ruling out the possibility of leaving the Heat, but comments like that are par for the course for players in his situation. I'm sure he will keep his options open but he probably won't consider them very hard or very long, right now I'd pick him to stay in Miami.

I would love to see a Rose-Wade back-court, but preferably in Miami.

I would rather see Dwyane dunking over Rose .

Not sure where to put this put since it's D-Wade making the comments, I thought I put it in the Miami thread

Wade: Kobe Is The Best, But MJ Is Better

Re: Miami Heat Thread

Obvious. Well... Wade didn't have to say it. Everybody should already know about it.

Re: Miami Heat Thread

I don't think anyone that actually loves the game, and not just Kobe Bryant, can really believe Michael Jordan isn't the best player ever.
