If he's a sign of players holding out and refusing to sign with the teams that draft them, then that's something the league can do without.

Good thing you are not the commissioner of the NBA.

Too bad you feel that way, I think they might actually improve.

yi should shut up and play for the bucks, im sick of him. what a disgrace to my hometown. (N)

Storey signing is now official. Now all the Bucks have to do is get Bell to resign, decide if they are going to keep Sessions or not (might as well, he can replace Greer as a 3rd Stringer next year) and focus on getting Yi to turn up.

Everything else seems to be quiet on the Bucks front ... for now at least

:shifty: (Waiting for GM Larry 'The Snake' Harris to make a trade seeing it has been a while)

Wed Aug 08, 2007 5:01 pm

Sessions to replace Greer? Did you see Greer at the end of last season, he looked pretty good. I want him to stick around a little longer.

Thu Aug 09, 2007 12:42 pm

If Session's develops to what his pre-draft potential was meant to be we probably won't need Greer. Sessions has good size, is a solid defender and is a good distributor. If he can develop a shot I think he will stick on this team.

I like Greer too, but he is like Mo Williams lite. More of a SG in a PG's body, shoot first, below average defender and undersized to play the 2. I like his as a back-up this year, but if Sessions improves I think Greer would not be resigned at the end of this season. But it is all up to Sessions development and what Greer provides this season. I was overly impressed by Greer in summer league, nor was I with Markota. Noel showed some promised and should continue to develop under the tutelage of Mason. Sessions looked decent though IMO.

BIG NEWS!!!!!!!

Yi is meeting today with Herb Kohl (Bucks Owner), GM Larry Harris and team lawyers today in Hong Kong. A press conference is to follow. Yi's agent Dan Fegan is also to be present, as well as CBA representatives.

From Chinese media sources & Bucks insiders on RealGM it looks like parties have come to terms and it will be announced that Yi will no longer be seeking a trade and will sign for the Bucks. Apparently the Bucks have promised to focus on developing Yi as much as possible, and give him significant playing time (possibly even guaranteeing a starting spot but this is not clear).

This is not a rumour, this is certain. The press conference and meeting by both parties reps is going ahead. Hopefully by the end of today we can put this behind us and start focussing on Training Camp. Any more info I get I will pass on.

Here an english language link with some info HERE

According to Sina, Yi's group has released some form of statement saying Yi will sign...

I am just glad all this drama is over and they have finally found some resolution.

Excellent news.

Another tidbit of info from a Bucks insider. The reason why the Bucks leadership haven't been to China before now is because David Stern told them not to go. He wanted to force China/Yi's hand first. Very interesting...

Wed Aug 29, 2007 2:01 pm

I don't know about him being a starter....I'd be alright with it in a year's time when he might be ready for it....a prominent 6th or 7th man role I can handle....25 minutes per game seems reasonable....

Wed Aug 29, 2007 2:07 pm

Well it will only be Yi and CV primarily at PF. Bogut or Voskul might get spot minutes, as may Simmons dependent on how he returns from injury.

But I agree, I don't think he should start. Back up the 4 off the bench, and spot minutes at SF and C dependent on match ups and the tempo of the game.

 Spoiled bastard.

Bucks fans must have really mixed feelings right now. This guy drags your teams through months of absolute bullshit, shitting on everything the draft represents, only to be (probably) signed after he is assured like a baby that he will get what he wants.

Pathetic.

Wed Aug 29, 2007 3:37 pm

Sounds great, cant wait to see the bucks opener!

EDITED: Apparently the Press Conference is taking place as this is posted. Going by chinese sources on RealGM, Yi is talking in front of the Bucks logo with Senator Kohl and GM Harris, and a Chinese representative. They are announcing he will sign to the Bucks, and will wear number 11 like he has in International games this summer.

As I write this local Milwaukee press has confirmed this - check this link YI SIGNS!!!!!!!

2ns Edit: It is also up on the Bucks Official website. Looks like that may end the dramatic summer for Bucks fan, now we can worry about the up coming season.

Press conference should be happening very soon. So RealGM Buck's forum should have some more info and details shortly.

Now that it looks like we have landed Yi, we can resign Bell and work out what to do with Sessions. I'm hoping, perhaps wishing knowing Bucks management, that we waive Markota and sign Pop Mensa Bonsu (spelling?) if he is waived by Dallas. He would be a nice banger on the bench who has a lot of potential and upside.

Thu Aug 30, 2007 2:05 am

From the press conference Yi held up a #11 jersey, which actually is the number for Earl Boykins, whom the Bucks have yet to re-sign. Technically #11 is open and thats the number that the Bucks want Yi to wear, being his national team number. Yi himself however wishes to wear #9, his number on the Guangdong Tigers.

Personally I don't think he should wear #11 because when you think of a Chinese player wearing #11, it is Yao, and it should stay Yao.

all i care about is did he make the cut for the nba live rosters? :D

Thu Aug 30, 2007 3:51 am

haha, seriously. I bet he'll still at least have a speech ID. Franz Vazquez even has a speech ID.

Thu Aug 30, 2007 3:51 am

This is sweet!!!! This makes me even more excited to watch the bucks this season. If he is as good as people say he can be, there is no reason why he wouldnt get playing time and start.

Interesting excerpt from an article:
(for all the Yi haters)
Harris was asked directly if Yi had been promised playing time. He skirted the question, but brought up a salient point: "There's a lot on his shoulders with his country and the Olympics and everything else."

That's something that doesn't really register with NBA fans. There's much more at stake for Yi than whether he plays 8 minutes per game or 25 minutes per game this year. To NBA fans, Yi should just be happy to have the opportunity to play in the league and has no right to complain about playing time before he even shows up for his first training camp. But equally important to Yi is his national team. There is a lot of pressure on him to develop into a top-flight player quickly, so that he can help the Chinese team in the Beijing Olympics next summer. He's not going to do that on the bench.

For American fans, it might look like Yi simply held out and pouted until he got what he wanted. But remember, in our culture, the national team is not nearly important as it is in other countries -- especially China, especially with the Beijing Games coming. Yi put his ability to contribute to his national team ahead of his NBA career, which, again, is a concept most fans here can't grasp. He's taken criticism, but it worked out for him and his national team.

The Bucks understood that, and though there is no formal agreement on playing time, Yi has all but assured himself minutes, even if he makes rookie mistakes.

So it just shows how different cultures view things differently, and that they have different priorities.

In America you put yourself first while outside of it you put your country first. The 92 Dream team put country first and performed outstanding, and this year's team is putting more country ahead of individual performances as well. But the article is dead on, he ain't going to improve if he rots on the bench, he will have to be played. The Bucks understood the importance of country over individual, and all of a sudden, they seem extremely smart.
