the team is really deep. if you break down main contributors by their positions you have
c: oden, pryzibilla,
pf: aldridge, frye
sf: outlaw, webster
sg: roy, rodriguez
pg: blake

you also have guys like batum, bayless, diogu, mcroberts who need time to develop. the team is deep but their is only one ball and 48 minutes to play and they are pretty weak at the pg position.

Sun Jun 29, 2008 9:47 pm

You forgot Rudy Fernandez, who is supposed to come and play this season

Sun Jun 29, 2008 10:23 pm

McRoberts was traded away....forgot Diogu....I would put him as number 1 backup PF ahead of Frye....Rodriguez is a backup PG, not SG....Fernandez is very good & will have big impact....Bayless might not get as many minute as early as people expect....forgot about Batum, he can go to D-League....

Mon Jun 30, 2008 4:27 am

so it'll look more like:
Oden-Prz-Diogu-(IR)Raef
Aldridge-Diogu-Frye
Webster-Outlaw-Frye
Roy-Bayless
Bayless-Blake-Rodriguez

sad to see a talent like Frye get buried under another great talent like Aldridge.
same with Rodriguez, who hasn't had much PT in Nate's system.

Mon Jun 30, 2008 4:55 am

I wish we had gotten Frye in the Bayless deal.

Mon Jun 30, 2008 5:14 am

I wish you had too. The depth of the bench worries me, as it reminds me of the Bulls' problems of too many mediocre players.

Nonetheless, Pritchard for Exec of the Year.

im happy u didnt get him

this portland teams reminds me of the clippers a few yuears back, a lot of young talented players with loads of potential but when it came time to sign em they all wanted to bail lol

Mon Jun 30, 2008 11:33 am

as long as greg oden doesn't turn out to be a bust, i expect them to make an impact in the league next year or two. otherwise, i think blazers will end up like clippers as sauru said.

portland still is the tenth best team in the west after denver and golden states. interesting 2 see if they will fall or rise from there...

Mon Jun 30, 2008 11:34 am

lol if portland doesn't meet expectations, do u see management pulling off a trade to shake things up?

Mon Jun 30, 2008 11:38 am

They have a lot of players that may result very atractive. I'm sure many teams would be interested in trading for some of these guys.

Wed Jul 09, 2008 9:05 pm

Even if they don't improve their record from last season, I hope they dont decide to make any big changes in the roster because they are still all young and developing and the current team is bound to make the playoffs within the next few years, especially if Oden performs well. I hope they will be patient

Wed Jul 09, 2008 9:15 pm

I don't see Diogu as a back up center, he's only like 6'8"...

If I was Portland, I'd try a starting line-up of:

Oden
Aldridge
Diogu
Roy
Bayless

I'd put Frye directly behind Aldridge, Outlaw directly behind Diogu, Webster behind Roy, and Blake behind Bayless.

Wed Jul 09, 2008 9:21 pm

I would have Outlaw starting over Diogu.

Ideal starting line-up:

Oden
Aldridge
Outlaw
Roy
Blake/Bayless (depending on pre-season performance)

Btw, I haven't seen any more news on the Bayless trade. Nothing about it on the transactions page on NBA.COM?? Is it not officially been completed yet?

Wed Jul 09, 2008 9:29 pm

seems a lot of your Blazers' fans are forgetting Rudy Fernandez....trust me, you'll know about him soon enough ;)

btw, Bayless won't be starting as a rookie, maybe by his 2nd year if develops

Wed Jul 09, 2008 9:31 pm

Ha yes forgot! He's what I'm most looking forward to this season, hence my little title thing under the username "Rudy Fernandez FTW". I always love a great 3-point shooter.

Wed Jul 09, 2008 9:41 pm

I did notice that, but I was actually referring to everyone else ;)

as for Blazers, without a doubt my fav player is Brandon Roy....he's just a pleasure to watch....probably my favourite player in the NBA to watch....

He's a much better slasher/finisher than a shooter. And he will be pushed around. He's a player though.

It just became official, it´s on nba.com, just like few other trades/signings
Portland obtains Jerryd Bayless and Ike Diogu from Indiana in exchange for Jarrett Jack, Josh McRoberts, Brandon Rush and cash considerations.

Diogu has a skilled, refined low post game, but he's so clueless about where he's supposed to be on the floor and how to defend that I don't see him finding any minutes under McMillan.

He never learned the Pacers playbook the entire time he was here.

Thu Jul 10, 2008 4:55 am

is bayless good with his left hand? i have rarely even seen him use his left hand to finish

I've never really liked the way Diogu plays and I'm not expecting much playing time from him. Sad to see Jack go but getting Bayless in return is great.

I'm really excited about this upcoming season. Oden will most likely be appearing in the summer league again?

Thu Jul 10, 2008 4:23 pm

Why would you play Diogu in the SF position, he's a PF.. I also think that he wouldn't have the minutes to play.. with Frye and Pryzbilla backing up for Oden and Aldridge.. I still think that Roy will be the centerpiece of their success.. As long as he stays healthy..

Blake will still be the starter.. Bayless is more of a scorer, an energy player, he has his outside game, but at the same time he can drive and explode to the basket, very athletic.. BUt witha line up like the Blazers, they need a true point that could set plays and also shoot 3s, Blake and Bayless would probably share minutes, or Blake starting the game, and Bayless finishing..

I'm really intrigued with this spanish guy.. Rudy Fernandez.. I saw him play in the FIBA and Olympics but didn't really had the chance to know what kind of player he is. But I think he would be a great player in the league and a nice fit in the Blazers system. Experts call him the next Manu Ginobili.. The Blazers would probably have one of the best benches in the league.. Role players that are capable of contributing immediately and is worthy of the starting position.

If all are healthy this could be their 12-man roster:

Starters:
C - Oden
PF - Aldridge
SF - Webster
SG - Roy
PG - Blake

Bench:
Fernandez, Outlaw, Frye, Przybilla, Rodriguez, Bayless, Batum

IR:
LaFrentz, Diogu

The blazers would be fun to watch.. A young team with great talent..

Thu Jul 10, 2008 4:26 pm

wazee, I agree with absolutely everything you said (Y)

Your version of the 12 man roster was probably the best way they could have it. You seem to know your stuff (Y) :D

Thu Jul 10, 2008 7:11 pm

switch batum and diogu around.... batums nowhere near ready for the nba..... have him develop in france or throw him in the nbdl.....
