It's a bad idea. We don't want to be reminded of all the big players who left the team and the last few years of losing when we're looking forward to a brand new season with a nearly brand new lineup and a brand new vision of actually making the playoffs.

Raptors signed Rookie P.J. Tucker.

From forums and newspapers, it seems like Williams(yea that's right, there's only one williams left on the team), will be the next one to go. Either waived or traded, or examined by a doctor for a retirement plan, he is likely to be out.

heh a day or two ago i emailed chuck and got a reply
Wed Jul 26, 2006 12:03 pm
That's great, what did Chuck say?
Wed Jul 26, 2006 12:09 pm
well i asked him what he thought about the ford-villanueava trade, and he replied
It was a good trade for both teams..simple as that.....we needed a point guard--they wanted a PF.
Wed Jul 26, 2006 1:03 pm
it was a good trade for the raptors, it was a great trade for the bucks...
we needed a pg and charlie was really the only guy we could trade for a decent one...
at the same time, a versatile sf/pf with 3pt ability and blocking ablility is hard to come by and if he gets more consistent than last year hes gonna be a great player...
as for fred jones...i think its a pretty good choice, maybe as good as salmons (definitely more entertaining) and a nice recovery after losing salmons to the kings (where he got more money wtf?? was that the only reason he didnt sign??)
anyways my impression was that jones lacks defense as well and probably takes too many shots but he's still young...
Wed Jul 26, 2006 1:10 pm
ofcourse it was a great trade for the bucks... villanueava+bogut in the lineup is deadly
Wed Jul 26, 2006 1:42 pm
Well you assume its going to be deadly. Charlie hasn't exactly ever shown consistency, and with big men, you never know how long they'll last or how they will progress.
Both teams are taking a risk, but the Raptors at least have a replacement going forward named Bargnani.
Wed Jul 26, 2006 3:33 pm
You should have seen how Bargnani got is ass blocked the fuck up in Summer League. One of the nastiest blocks I have seen in a while!!!
I'm still skeptikal of having all these Europeans players on a team in the NBA, I'm not saying its a bad thing, I just hope this team gets together FASST!!

I have a similar feeling, but i think we'll be ok. The good thing is European players are cheap... in the beginning.
Wed Jul 26, 2006 11:15 pm
wow he has such a quick release...it looks like he could be a great scorer but it'll take a while...
i mean thats what the raptors kinda needed now - i felt like last year whenever they scored it was almost lucky, where they passed the ball around hoping they will get open and then relying on james or bosh with the clock low...
barnagni looked good in that video but u gotta remember thats summer league and im still wondering if he can play defense without picking up 10 fouls a game...
Thu Jul 27, 2006 1:12 am
well he has a height advantage, plus that quick release which will allow him to shoot over alot of guys... and lol actually we have alot of euro guys on us, as well as that director or somethin colangelo hired from europe.
but i dont care as long as they could play.. now i am feeling real good about this team.
Thu Jul 27, 2006 3:29 am
FRED JONES! WHO? FRED JONES! WHO?
lol jks.

He has good timing when it comes to blocks, but as for man-to-man defense, it's still questionable at this point, but he's a rookie. As for 10 fouls a game, it's a summer league. The refs are from the D-Leagues and the overall team fouls are ridiculous, not just Bargnani. It's ridiculous at how many fouls are called in summer league games. The preseason might give a better assessment on how foul-prone Bargnani is. At least it shows that he is aggressive on defense to be pulling off all those fouls.

Isnt Mo-Pete the new all time leader for most games played as a Raptor? I remember him passing Alvin Williams for this title last year or something. If this is true, damnit Toronto media, theres more sports in the city than JUST hockey...I like hockey and all, but damnit...[/quote]

Yeah, Mo is the new leading games played.. player. For basketball coverage, never watch SN or TSN, only NBA TV and The Score.

So apparently after all these signings, including Garbajosa, Slokar, Jones and Tucker, the raps still have about $2 million in cap space.
Anyone left out there who would fit in as maybe a role player for a year? I think Jake Voskul would be an excellent fit as a backup centre, and he could plit time with Humphries and Garbajosa. And Colangelo had him in Phoenix, and you could defintiely get him for $2 mil or less.
Other than that, the roster is set, depending on who plays in the DL. Slokar probably will, like Sow did last year, and maybe even Tucker for a while, because I doubt there will be any minutes for him.
Thu Jul 27, 2006 11:06 am
I think we should have saved some money for DURING the season.
Thu Jul 27, 2006 11:29 am
I'd rather spend it now, and I'll explain why.
We have cap space now. If at the deadline, there really isn't anyone that we would want to trade for, then we go into the next offseason with the same roster, and the same $2 mil in cap space. That cap space will be gone as soon as we resign either Peterson or Ford, or both. If we sign someone now, we can resign them next summer no matter what, or they can be used in a trade if we fall out of it.
If the big man that would fit in as the 11th or 12th man on this team is available now, I'd rather take the chance now. Because if the deadline comes and we still need another big man, there really aren't many that teams are willing to deal, and far more that are paid more than we have in extra cap space.
