Perhaps we'll finally get accepted NBA coverage, which has been long overdue

Hadn't heard about that. Is it a "pay even more" type of thing? Or does it just come with the basic package?

Fri Aug 25, 2006 12:58 pm

I'm pretty sure it will be standard.

Fri Aug 25, 2006 1:02 pm

Ah k. Well good to hear. Just hope that if they do show NBA games, they wont be on at the same time as the espn ones. Most of the time i have to record the games cos i'm always at work.

Fri Aug 25, 2006 1:06 pm

Apparently Fox Sports will be showing games Wednesday and Friday (games played on Tuesday and Thursday in the States) while ESPN should retain its Thursday and Saturday slots (the NBA Wednesday and NBA Friday presentations), so there shouldn't be any conflict.

4 games a week! HUZZAH!!!!! Good stuff. That's made my day (Y) :D

It's been a boring day.

Fri Aug 25, 2006 1:11 pm

News like that will always make my day, boring or otherwise. ;)

Fri Aug 25, 2006 2:20 pm

Tue & Thurs means TNT, just like Fox Sports 1 had a few years back. Looking at the schedule it looks like TNT has a lot of, Cleveland, Dallas, LA Lakers, Phoenix & Detroit. Not really a fan of Phx Or Cleveland style.

Unfortunately only 3 Magic games this season.

Fri Aug 25, 2006 4:48 pm

If that's the case then we should be getting the Bulls/Heat season opener. Looks like there'll be a few more Bulls games after that too. :D

Yesss. The day gets better. The most i saw of the Bulls last season was in NBA Action and the Rookie Sophomore game.

I'd still love to see every team get a run this year. Probably wont happen, but fingers are crossed.

In the latest Foxtel magazine someone sent in a letter asking about NBA TV, they said they have no plans to show NBA TV and just said something else about the NBL season starting soon on Fox Sports.

deffinately won't happen, but this year at least we get more variety.

Yeah Bulls get a run too....can't wait for Det vs Chi.

Absolutely. Gonna be hyped as some of the games of the year. Hopefully they wont disappoint. I certainly cant wait. Especially if Big Ben gets the Bulls the win at the Palace.

That sucks. Still, so long as the NBA/Fox Sports 3 deal doesn't fall through and ESPN continues to show games I'm pretty happy with that coverage.

It really is a shame that Australia is far behind in it's NBA coverage (but, if this goes through perhaps we'll be on par). So many other countries that have a smaller bball following than we do have free to air and even NBA TV available.

I never understood why. Even on pay TV we get a shameful presentation. This proposed deal would help make up for the time between 2000-2005 where i had to either watch games at friends house, get them taped (constantly harassing people) or hustle down to the casino and watch games at the sports bar.

Now, we can start bitching about our slow broadband.

Basketball just doesn't get a lot of respect in Australia. I assume at some point Channel Ten decided it wasn't worth the investment though considering the coverage ended after 98/99 - just after Michael Jordan had retired for the second time and the lockout had taken place - they probably picked a bad time to survey the key demographic.

You would think pay TV would have a lot more coverage though considering most people get pay TV for specialty programming and sports, and NBA basketball falls under both categories in Australia. That said, the kind of coverage we could expect if/when the Fox Sports deal goes through is what I was hoping for when I got Foxtel so even though I'd love NBA TV and as much NBA as possible, four or five games per week would be great as far as I'm concerned.

Sat Aug 26, 2006 7:40 pm

i'd trade one of those games off for some 90's encounters!!!!

Sat Aug 26, 2006 7:50 pm

It's rumoured we might be getting ESPN Classic at some point too, Jae found something about it on the Whirlpool forums. Sounds too good to be true though. :(

that would be brilliant....I'd watch it more than regular ESPN

They said on the Boomers game tonight we're getting 2 NBA games per week on Foxtel + 4 or 6 NBL games... so we'll get 8 or 10 games of basketball per week.

Mon Aug 28, 2006 12:59 pm

Yeah I heard that too, good stuff. I'll be sure to catch every NBA game that's shown but with 4-6 NBL games I'll probably end up catching at least a couple of those as well.

Tue Aug 29, 2006 5:08 pm

Is that 2 games on just Fox Sports or does that include ESPN as well?

Wed Aug 30, 2006 12:28 am

Two NBA games on Fox Sports then two more on ESPN.

Wed Aug 30, 2006 2:04 am

is ESPN committed to two games or like last season where they seemed to have 2 games every 2nd week or so.

Either way i can't wait for the season.

Wed Aug 30, 2006 4:36 pm

I'd say we'll have two games on ESPN most weeks but some weeks only one as it has been for the last two years.
