This Walsh move was nothing but a firing. Dolan low-balled him knowing Walsh wouldn't go for less money/less power. He gave Walsh the middle finger. So why would any competent GM come here with Dolan over his shoulder?
So Dolan will hire one of his yes-men and the Knicks will go back to being a laughingstock.
Sun Jun 05, 2011 11:29 am
It's been said that Dolan doesn't need to officially hire Thomas again because he's still pulling strings as it is, but could anyone see him going ahead and bringing him back in the GM role anyway? It wouldn't surprise me all that much, Dolan really does seem to be that clueless about the inevitable backlash and destructive nature of such a move.
Mon Jun 06, 2011 2:08 am
The Knicks may be a playoff team, but they'll never be upper-echelon again, not with Dolan's meddling. They'll average 45 wins a season and get knocked out in the first round. Miami, Chicago, Boston - you cats think our front office can get us to the level of those teams with Dolan and his yes-men running MSG? I don't.
The only way Dolan hires a dude like Pritchard is if David Stern forces him to, like he did with Walsh.
Mon Jun 06, 2011 2:10 am
Do you think he'll bring Isiah back in? As I said before I guess it doesn't matter, so long as he has Dolan's ear he can continue to pull strings, but do you think Dolan would dare to officially give him that position again?
Mon Jun 06, 2011 2:47 am
I'm betting yes.

Isiah never went away - he and Dolan talk all the time, he just doesn't have an official job. I'm sure Dolan will try to hire him, but that would tick off Stern and the league office. They don't want another circus in one of the NBA's major markets.
Mon Jun 06, 2011 10:06 am
Yeah, I suppose Stern might intervene if it comes to that but if Isiah quits Florida International there's no conflict of interest.

I need a new team to root for.
Wed Jun 08, 2011 12:22 pm
Bobcats! Bobcats! Bobcats!
Wed Jun 08, 2011 3:47 pm
Brooklyn Nyets!
Or you could cheer for Knicks rivals as a form of protest. Bulls, Heat, and Pacers!
My knowledge of their rivals only goes back to the 90's, no idea about the previous decades.
Wed Jun 08, 2011 4:33 pm
Celtics and Sixers would be in that group.
Wed Jun 08, 2011 4:47 pm
Sixers! Celtics fans here like Jao and Sauru are douchebags, I don't want Celtics supporters to have some respectability if Jeffx decides to join them.
After years and years of frustration with the Knicks, Jeffx deserves the chance to root for powerhouses like the Bulls or even the generally despised Heat.
Wed Jun 08, 2011 4:54 pm
I don't think any longtime Knick fan could manage much more than grudging respect and credit where credit is due for those teams. I have to respect that.
It's a real shame, though. Huge market, iconic city, founding franchise, loyal fanbase, idiot owner. One of these things doesn't belong.
Thu Jun 09, 2011 12:59 am
I'm trying to be optimistic about everything here, and I'm pretty sure Dolan will die at some point in my life time, so I might be able to see a new reign in New York.
Thu Jun 09, 2011 1:10 am
I could never root for a division rival like Miami, Chicago or Boston. Maybe I'll switch to the Nets when they come to Brooklyn. I used to root for them during their ABA days with The Doctor.
Donnie Walsh brought some class to this organization. He wasn't perfect, but with him, real Knicks fans finally felt the ship was headed in the right direction. And he was able to keep Dolan in check. Now it's all over. Dolan will run the franchise through one of his ass-kissers(Allan Houston or Glen Grunwald) and it'll be the same ol' shit.
Thu Jun 09, 2011 1:22 am
On the bright side, if Isiah Thomas is offered and takes that job with the Pistons it's a guarantee that he won't be bothering the Knicks.
Thu Jun 09, 2011 9:48 am
One would think, but then when it comes to Isiah and Dolan, who knows?
Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:23 pm
I'll be tuning in tonight to watch the Knicks screw up another draft.

Knicks take Iman Shumpert. The fans in attendance were not thrilled.

I'm shocked they took someone who actually plays defense. He won't see any playing time with Pringles.

How come the Cavs, Raptors, Pistons, Wolves, Suns, Warriors, Wizards and Jazz aren't nearly as maligned as the Knicks are for defensive ineptitude, when they all defended worse last year?

The knicks made the playoffs?
its a matter of wasted potential. The knicks playing D COULD become a contender
The cavs, raptors, pistons, woles, suns, warriors, wizards, and jazz playing D? They still dont make the playoffs.
Mon Jun 27, 2011 1:34 am
And they wouldn't have if they had the worst defense in the league like people are making their's out to be.
Mon Jun 27, 2011 1:35 am
Cavs, Raptors, Pistons, Wolves, Suns, Warriors, Wizards, Jazz : not in the playoffs = turrible teams.
Knicks: playoff team = decent team. Should at least try to consider playing D to avoid being 1st round fodder.
Lamrock wrote:And they wouldn't have if they had the worst defense in the league like people are making their's out to be.
But the Knicks are indeed terrible at defense. Just look at the ones above them in DRtg. Even that mess in Sacramento is better than the Knicks.
