CNNSI - Sports Illustrated's Ian Thomsen reports that Isiah Thomas might take a run later at Phoenix forward Shawn Marion, whose remaining deal for four years and $63 million could become prohibitive if the Suns retain Joe Johnson and re-sign Amare Stoudemire to max deals.
By sending Kurt Thomas to Phoenix last month for Quentin Richardson, Thomas essentially supplied the Suns with Marion's replacement at power forward. If the Suns are intent on wiping Marion off their books, trading him to New York prior to the February deadline for the expiring $14 million contract of Tim Thomas would be a logical move.
Wow this would be a good move for the knicks. They going to be in salary hell for the next couple years so it doesn't matters.
J. James
S. Marion
Q. Ricardson
J. Crawford
S. Marbury

Sweetney
Frye
Ariza
Robinson
blah blah
looks like a good squad.. this JSqJS line up is pretty fast except for james

And noone on the backcourt can play defense or control his trigger-happiness. Nice lineup, indeed

I am not a Knicks fan but I just wanted to write how bad Isiah Thomas sucks. He should be hung in the middle of times square.
"With their payroll for the 2005-06 season projected to be $125 million, the Knicks are $75 million over the league's salary cap. Although Thomas wants to cut the payroll - Penny Hardaway and Tim Thomas are in the last year of their contracts and Houston is done next summer - he still is not convinced that waiting three years to get below the cap is the right path for his team." New York Daily News
They do not have 1 good player, not 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That article also says Isiah has to deal with sh!t beyond his control(the mistakes from previous GMs and a lousy owner).

I understand that. That is why they should have went into rebuild mode years ago. His anti rebuilding theory is making matters worse.

Dude, you're preaching to the choir. The team should have been torn apart after the 1999-2000 season. But you're forgetting who runs the Knicks & MSG - the Dolans & Cablevision. All they want is playoffs so they can fill the arena in May. They don't care if the Knicks get blown out in the first round, as long as they make a profit. I've been screaming about this for years. Short-sighted ownership is why this franchise has been spinning its wheels since the 1972-73 championship season.
That's why you have to cut Zeke some slack. Look who he has to answer to.

At first I thought Jeffx was b/s-ing but as the mediocre times continue, I'm starting to believe it more and more (although other people may call it a cheap excuse).
Anyway, what I like about next season is that no one is counting on the Knicks to make the playoffs, so there's basically no pressure on them (apart from the Knicks fans themselves of course).
The problem for teams such as the Knicks is that nowadays, no players are willing to stay somewhere to actually build a team while making less money than they could've. I really hate that, why isn't everyone like Udonis Haslem?

Dude, I've been a fan since the early 70's. I'm not a B.S. artist - believe me when I tell you, our front office has been a joke for decades. Rebuild is a bad word in NYC. Other GMs laugh at us. Remember, we're the ones who drafted the awesome Frederic Weis. And gave Allan Houston a $100mil contract. Aside from Ewing, can you name a great Knick draft pick in the last 20 years(thank goodness we lucked into him!)? And why can't we get one of these hot-shooting foreign players? Where's our Manu, Peja or Kirilenko? Is our scouting dept. asleep?
I've criticized Isiah, but he has a knack for spotting young talent, unlike the previous jokers. I feel for the younger Knick fans - at least I've seen two championships. You cats have a long wait.

Predictable question, coming from DWeaver: How old are you exactly, Jeffx?

44. Even though the Knicks have broken my heart since '73, I'm still with them - I bleed NY. But we did have a nice ten-year playoff run with Patrick.
Here's the full article about Isiah's rebuilding plans...

What!? 44?? Damn, you're old. You could be the father of most of the guys here
Now seriously, it's really nice to see a guy that sticks to his team no matter how many bad GM's they may had
Tue Jul 19, 2005 7:04 pm
Jeffx, I don't know a whole lot of "that part" of the Knicks history.
Anyway I think I may be glad that I haven't had to suffer for that long, I'm only 16.
I've taped this documentary from NBA TV about the history of the Knicks, it's of course focused on the 70s. Sometimes when I'm feeling down I watch it.

You have my respect sir..., must be hard to be a fan of a team in tumultuous times, not to mention putting up with the testosterone levels in this forum. Keepp it up!

It's so cool talking with young cats who appreciate REAL basketball. That's what the old Knicks were about. And it's why I enjoyed this year's finals so much. Both teams play old skool hoops.
If the Knicks had followed the Bulls example, we'd be in a better situation. Chicago suffered six losing seasons, but look at them now. That team is LOADED with young talent. Bills will be scary if they continue to improve. Knicks are years away from that. Since we're stuck in the middle, it's hard to get those high-end draft picks you need to turn things around.
Oh well, at least the Knicks gave us thrilling moments during their 1991-2001 playoff run. At least we got to two finals. Hawks & Clipper fans have it worse than we do.

It's alright, I'm sure Yaroslav Korolev will be a big star... after he starts shaving.

I'm gusssing you're a Giants and Rangers fan, also? I like the fact New Yorkers are always loyal to their home city sides... although some times there is the inevitable division between Yankees/Mets, Giants/Jets, and Rangers/Islanders, but from what I've noticed , the team sporting blue usually comes out on top...

I assume you're talking to me (since DWeaver isn't really young anymore)? Well I'm from Europe, that's how we play over here. No flashy stuff, no trash talking. Just playing hard, team game, good fundamentals and diving after loose balls.
I wish I was around to see Ewing, Oak and Starks play.
Thu Jul 21, 2005 4:43 am
Weaver, I consider anyone under 30 a youngster.
I love my Giants, but I'm not a baseball or hockey fan.
Nothing wrong with dunks, ceekay, as long as it's done within the team game. To me, an 80-76 defensive battle is more exciting than a 143-140 layup drill. The last three games of the SA-Detroit finals were what basketball's all about. Hard-nosed defense, pass the ball around on offense. If someone has a better shot than you, give it up. Simple, but effective.

He's just throwing the idea out there, but Chad Ford says a Darius Miles-for-Jamal Crawford trade would help both teams:
The Blazers might be another possibility. The team is trying to get help in the backcourt, and is willing to swap Darius Miles for some help. Brown loves long, athletic forwards like Miles, so that could be a fit. The salaries match up well, though the Knicks would have to wait until the end of August to make a trade because of base-year issues with Miles.
Crawford has six years and $50 million remaining on his contract.

i hope this isn't true

i think crawford is better than miles. but opening up the SG position allows Nate to play more or posssibly push marbury to the SG postion.
Mon Aug 01, 2005 6:53 am
so what do you nyk fans think will happen with marbs? should he move to the SG position and find a big PG to brown's liking??
Mon Aug 01, 2005 8:05 am
I believe Marbury should stay at PG.
Larry should make him a better passer, or at least a pass first PG, just like he did with Chauncey.

If Marbury's smart, he'd better listen.
